No problem, my family is Slavic so that might influence us, but Peter is just better known because he really helped modernize Russia (for the 18th century anyway) Catherine was actually very hated by the Serfs because she changed a lot of Peter III's progressive policies so that impacted her image with the Russians

My dad studied Russian in college and that's about as Slavic as my family gets. My ancestors are mostly from Great Britain, Ireland, the Netherlands, Germany, the Cherokee Nation, and Lithuania.
How did Catherine get the Great then?

My guess? added on by the Nobles who wrote history, or the Church because she returned their serfs to them after Peter freed them
Paul (Peter and Catherine's son) tried to reform but got murdered for it

yeah and combined with the death of his father at a very young age and his "tense" relation with Catherine makes his life even sadder :(
