MythiKa < OoC | Signup | Open >

Postby Mewsland » Mon Oct 01, 2012 5:33 am

Even magic has its limits.

And one of those limits was thought to have been that a person could not teleport into another dimension.

Around the turn of the 18th century, this theory was growing to common acceptance, however, as usual, there is a monkeywrench that gets dramatically thrown into the works.

In this case, the monkeywrench is the story of MythiKa.

The facts: Alexis Ka Maren, better known as MythiKa, was the greatest witch of her day. Born in May 1661, she traveled Earth as a 'healer from the shadows' - whenever she happened upon an injured being, she always did her best to heal them. Despite being a healer, though, MythiKa was also formidable in battle, easily destroying those that sought a piece of her power. According to historic records, she died on April 22, 1717. But her coffin is empty.

The legend: MythiKa survives, but in some other world. In her later years, MythiKa appeared to be on the verge of a discovery that would shake magic to its roots. Many took her words about the existence of worlds beyond Earth as the misguided ramblings of an eccentric. But could there be a grain of truth to the 'eccentric ramblings' of MythiKa?

Jump forward to the present day - October 31, 2012. If MythiKa is alive, she would be 351 years old. Even so, her name has become a magical urban legend - no trace of MythiKa has ever been found, nor were there signs of a struggle.

A battle at Stonehenge would provide the answer. Several great wizards would find themselves pitted against each other in battle, only to find that, despite their differences, they would have to work together to free themselves from the Seven Realms, and perhaps solve the greatest magical mystery of all time...

Good morning, NationStates and P2TM. I've spent some time working on this idea, and hope it's to your liking. MythiKa draws elements from several of my previous RPs, including Oríchalcos, Tali'Zora and its planned but unused sequels, and the original Code: Lyoko saga.

It gives us the story of seven interconnected worlds (remember the Seven Realms of Tali'Zora? Samr basic concept, but the worlds are just referred to as the Seven Realms, since neither Tali'Zora nor her deities exist in this RP) in a dimension distinctly different from Earth's own.

Speaking of Earth, magic has become commonplace in the 21st century and gained near-total acceptance, if not understanding, from the non-magic community. Also, MythiKa's name has become the ultimate magical urban legend - thousands, perhaps millions of people have claimed to see the witch over the years, though no claims have been vindicated.

The wizards who are thrown into the Seven Realms in this RP are split across some sort of ideological divide (perhaps some of them fear that magicians are coming too close to breaking magical limits, whilst the others believe that magic's power is unlimited and should be used to subdue the non-magic community), but will soon face a new divide - the Seven Realms are no place for any witch or wizard.

Mainly, it's because of all the people - if you can call them people - in the Realms. These people have the strange ability to drain the magical energy from witches and wizards in order to use it as their own. Mythika herself is safe, for now, having created a sanctuary - a cathedral at the heart of the seventh of these Realms, the Forest of Ether. There, she and the last of the magical beings of the Seven Realms are forced to stay. On the island where Ether Cathedral sits, the occupants are safe from the draining attacks of the Kayrans. Once they cross the lake around Ether Cathedral, though, any one of them is in danger - MythiKa even more so, since 300 years in the Seven Realms have amplified her magical abilities - making her the prime target of Kayra.

So, the gauntlet is thrown. Will the characters either join forces with Mythika and try to make their way back to Earth, or will they join forces with the Kayrans and try to claim the magical power of MythiKa for themselves?

MythiKans

<Image> MythiKa as High Priestess of Ether Cathedral.

Between her birth in 1661 and her disappearance in 1717, Alexis Ka Maren, or MythiKa as she was known, was the epitome of the 'healer in the shadows' stereotype. She would heal anything she came across, but would leave no trace of her magic.

In 1717, MythiKa discovered a way to cross between dimensions using magic. Traveling to Stonehenge in mid-April, she discovered the true purpose of the formation - it was a portal to the Seven Realms. On April 22, 1717, she activated the Stonehenge portal, but became trapped in the Seven Realms when the portal immediately closed behind her.

Chased by Kayra, she erected a magical barrier around the island at the center of the Forest of Ether, and built the Ether Cathedral there in 1736.

Nearly 300 years in the Seven Realms greatly amplified MythiKa's magical powers, at the cost of transforming her into what could almost be described as a dark elf. She has no memories of Earth, those memories having been obliterated by her transformation.

Today, MythiKa is a master of fire magic - the one type of magic that can repel Kayrans, as they are not used to the light (the Seven Realms have no sun, and exist in a state of perpetual twilight) - as well as healing magics.

Personality: Silva is a hard person to get along with, due to his personality being that of his favorite element. Fire. He is acerbic, witty, and clever, but tends to burn people who get too close. He rarely associates with other wizards, preferring to work among the humans.
A short bio: 1756. Not a bad year to be born. Indian attacks? Yes some. But for the most part life was good for young Silva and his parents, fifth generation Virginians. Founded in 1607 the colony had a long history of both successes and failures. But they didn't care about that. Silva and his parents lived on the edge of civilization. His father was a trader, his mother a very stay at home mom. She mended clothes, cooked, and did all the other things that a housewife of the time was expected to do. Silva's father however, was just a tad bit more than a trader. He was the head of a coven of some of the post powerful wizards in the New World. They were made up of members from Massachusetts all the way down to Georgia. They met once a year to deal with those matters that concerned the hidden Wizards of the time.
1770. Silva is fourteen when his father comes home one day grimly. Already starting to show some magical prowess, Silva is instructed by his father to summon the coven. Silva activates the scrying mirrors, and reaches eleven of the twelve other members of the Coven. He is unable however, to reach Patrick Carr, the representative from Massachusetts. When his father is told of this, he nods slowly. Silva's father tells young Silva that war is coming. And there is nothing they can do to stop it.
1774. Silva is eighteen, and enlists with the Virginia Militia. Then, he fights under Colonel Andrew Lewis at the battle of Point Pleasant. Silva is commended for bravery under fire.
1775. War. The Virginia Militia is absorbed into the Revolutionary Army under General George Washington, a native Virginian. Silva fights with Washington until 1783, when he does not reenlist.

For the next five years Silva wanders the Frontier, learning about the various Indian tribes and meeting peacefully with powerful Indian Shamans, who teach him more about magic. One of them gifts Silva with a very powerful, and hideous, weapon in exchange for Silva's killing a bear that would have slain the Shaman. It is a dagger, crafted of steel, and with an emerald set in the hilt. The Shaman refuses to tell Silva how he acquired the weapon, but he does tell him what it does. It absorbs life force. It is the soul of a vampire, bound to a blade, then the soul itself was destroyed leaving only a hunger. That hunger is controlled by the wielder of the blade. Silva, uncertain as to whether or not he should keep the blade, meditates on the plains for a night and a day. Rising from his trance, Silva is immediately set upon by a shade. Shades are echos. A powerful echo of a powerful magic wrought some time in the past, that resonates to the day. So powerful of a magic, that it cannot be contained by the earth. Residual magic bleeds into the air, and, if enough bleeds out, creates a shade. A creature formed of magic, with a touch that is instant death from the sheer volume of unrestrained magic contained within. Silva stabs the shade in the same moment it touches him. The blade absorbs the shade's life force, and uses it to keep Silva alive. Silva lives, but his skin takes on an unearthly aura that can be seen by magical creatures and mages. In addition, it gifts Silva far heightened prowess with magic, and long life.

Until now Silva has wandered the world. Never settling down. He walks the world and learns magic, practices magic, and hopes that if he wanders long enough, he may encounter Mythika.

A short bio: born in Greece, Naida is the direct result of a mortal woman having sex with a water spirit. For most of her early life, Naida kept to herself, living free without any interuptions. that changed when a village appeared not far from the river that she inhabited. she became fasinated with the humans and would show herself every so often to people going to the river. The people in the village were wary of her from the beginning, fearing that she would drown them if they got close. their fears we realized when, over a couple of years, bodies of men were found in or near the river, died after a night with Naida.

the villagers, having enough, began to hunt down Naida. they dammed up the river in order to flush her out and kill her. Naida managed to escape, but with the river she was connected with almost dried up, she was dying. thats when she met Mythika. Mythika found Naida and saved her life, connecting Naida to the lake around Ether Cathedral. Now, Naida is a good friend of Mythika and indebted to her for saving her life.

A short bio (1-3 paragraphs please): Artemis was born to a poor, lowly elven woman. His father abandoned them, leaving only a short sword behind. Artemis seemed to have an attachment to the blade, always lugging it around and swinging it. Eventually, when he was sixteen, he met the man who should have been his father. Of course, he called him a friend, as we all do, but secretly he yearned it so. The man taught him how to use the blade excellently, and Artemis took the lessons to heart.

On a stormy, gloomy night, Artemis made his way from his workplace to the inn he and his mother had a permanent room at. He took a shortcut through an alleyway, and there lay his adopted father, blood dribbling from his mouth. No other wounds besmirched him, and Artemis suspected a wizard. Of course, it was; an evil man, of dark magicks. He convinced Artemis that he had been assaulted and taught him a rare form or magick; how to enchant his blade. Many things, such as slashes that caused much more pain than they should, making dark energy course the blade and many others were taught to him. Eventually, Artemis discovered his lie and killed him with his right thumb in cold blood.

Artemis practiced his techniques over the years, and when he met Mythika he realized her power and pledged himself to her. When she made the leap into another dimension, as did he. Though most frowned upon his 'evil' magick, he quickly earned respect by using them for good.

Age: 32
Species: Human
Gender: F
Appearance: Along the lines of this, though her hair isn't epically long, :P.
Allegiances: Mythikan
Personality: Kaseyla is a cheery and carefree woman, though don't let this fool you, she's willing to fight and die for those she has chosen to call her allies, and she certainly doesn't take kindly to those who threaten them. However, aside from that, she is a kind person and treats others with respect. She is able to keep her calm in most situations, and willing to help her allies however she can, though she has a set moral code that she won't break.
A short bio: Kaseyla was born on a summer solstice, exactly when the sun was at it's zenith, to a long line of talented sorcerers and wizards, who had been imbued with the magical power of the phoenixes for several generations. As such, it was obvious since the beginning that Kaseyla was a child with an enormous magical potential, and many of the other members of the family foresaw that great things would come for her. As such, since she was young, her family, which held it's fair share of power in the world, provided her with some of the best instruction in the magical arts that could be attained in the whole world.
Even as she began her training in the magical arts, it was more than obvious that there was one element she excelled at: Kaseyla was an innate user of light magic. It was with this knowledge that she specialized in this kind of magic early on, quickly becoming a master of it's use,, making it more than evident that she was a rare prodigy of magic. However, this did not mean that she neglected other areas of magic. Far from it, actually, as Kaseyla also became a talented user of many other schools of magic, mostly through the use of powerful magical symbols.
During her life, she has become a renowned sorceress throughout the world, helping others with her magic. She had never felt that her home was a castle of old, or a luxurious manor. She knew that her home was the world itself, and she has wandered through it for much of her relatively short life, always seeking for adventure, dettached from her mortal bonds, with only her staff as her companion.
In recent days, the prodigy of light heard of strange happenings in Stonehenge, and decided to head there to investigate.

Kayrans

Image

Kayra predates Mythika by uncounted centuries, and is perhaps the only constant in the Seven Realms. For the last nine hundred years, he has persecuted every magical creature in the Seven Realms, driving them nearly to extinction before Mythika's arrival in 1717.

Born some time in the 3rd millennium BC by the Earth calendar, Kayra was originally a mage himself, but his hatred for magic began in 1109 AC when he was stripped of his powers after using them only for darkness. Determined to take revenge, Kayra soon figured out how he could drain power from mages and use it to strengthen his abilities in battle, thus regaining the power he lost, at the cost of thousands of lives.

When Mythika arrived in 1717, Kayra saw an opportunity to regain his full power, but found himself facing a formidable opponent in the Healer of the Shadows. He now sends his minions forth in battle under the Terror of Death, his second-in-command, to destroy Mythika and claim her magical energies...

Age (Great wizards don't become great overnight - be reasonable): 900

Species (any human-like magical species is up for grabs - no phoenixes or minotaurs, but elves, faeries, goblins, centaurs, etc. are fine): Human(Lycanthrope)

Gender: Male

Appearance (Image) And Lycan if that's okay here: (Image)

Allegiances (Mythikan or Kayran?): Kayran (Though his true allegiance is to himself.)

Personality (be detailed!):Unless he is firmly persuaded otherwise, he can give a mule lessons in stubbornness, and he has a hunger for power that has been sated little- though he tempers it with caution when he can. In his younger years, he had a taste for pranks, and often accompanied some more "free-willed", members of the Byzantine court. Since becoming a Lycan, and taking on certain burdens, he has become- at least outwardly; serious, grim, and intent on pushing away all those who are important to him. He can be quite capable and level-headed when faced with challenges, and is a fast learner. Over the centuries, he has become arrogant and hard.

One of the most interesting characteristics that Velissarios acquired over the years is the voice of Andronikos Sarantapechaina speaking to him in his head, from a debacle in ancient ruins in what is now called Kosovo(details in bio), where the trapped spirit of the man, who was once a mage and an advisor to a Byzantine emperor centuries before, was inadvertently freed and partially took control of him. Most of the time, the voice is fairly crazy, and Velissarios thinks that he must be going insane. Other times, Andronikos seems to be almost sane, and actually helps Velissarios get out of a few scrapes.

A short bio (1-3 paragraphs please): Born in A.D. 1112, Velissarios was a member of the legendary Komnenid dynasty that history never spoke of; the sixth son of John II Komnenos and Irene of Hungary. Quite early on, his talent in many areas was recognised by family and peers amongst the noble families that he maintained close contact with from a young age. He quickly became adept at things like swordsmanship and other weapons, and learned to ride with great skill from an early age. He became omni-lingual at a surprisingly fast rate. Unfortunately, as Velissarios grew up, he was regarded as a threat to certain other nobles of power, courtesy of Byzantine politics. He showed an interest in certain things he kept fairly secret, of an occult nature. He also showed an aptitude for drawing and several different instruments.
He was quite popular amongst the nobles, for his notable good looks among other reasons. He quickly became entrenched in politics and scheming of a complex nature, as well as certain mystical cults that thrived in the underside of Byzantium. Velissarios sometimes resorted to utilising dark magic to remove some of the more pesky adversaries he faced; though in the long run, this would end up creating more problems than solutions.

Under instructions by an individual who was a master of sorcery, he journeyed to a ruined fortress in what is now known as Kaljaja, or Prizren Fortress, in Prizren, Kosovo. He was informed there would be a reward in the form of a powerful artefact that would give him considerably more power than he already had, and would allow him to easily ascend to the throne of Basileia Romaion, or Byzantium. When venturing there, seemingly well-prepared for anything, he ventured into an abandoned tower in the fortress. There, was an intricately carved safe. Velissarios approached it, not knowing that the proximity of someone with sorcerous power was enough to activate it. The trapped spirit of long-dead mage Andronikos Sarantapechaina forced its way into him, surprising Velissarios. He resisted furiously as soon as he realized what was happening. Andronikos had some control, but Velissarios had given no more ground; turning it into a stalemate.

The way it worked was such that stray thoughts and memories also shifted into Velissarios' perception, and in certain situations it would be more difficult than usual to maintain that grip, as admittedly, Andronikos was not the sanest of individuals; most of the time, raving lunatic would be letting the dead mage off kindly. Nonetheless; there were some benefits. Andronikos had been a powerful sorcerer in his time, and what he knew merged with the considerably smaller amount that Velissarios, still in his early 20s, knew at the time. A month or two later, Velissarios displayed an interest in methods of obtaining immortality, and scoured the library of Constantinople for certain books on the subject. Unfortunately, some shadowy individuals thought it would be a twist of irony if he received the gift of not ageing, but for a price. During one of his searches through the enormous library, a group of Lycans ambushed him. A few were killed by either his blade or his magic, but one closed in on him, inflicting a wound that was enough to ensure that he would be infected too. Velissarios knew what would happen, without Andronikos babbling inanely in the back of his head. So, he quietly gathered his possessions, and made an excuse about leaving the empire to his family, saying that he would be away for a few months.

Meanwhile, certain individuals in his service quietly removed most written accounts of him from existence. Velissarios was responsible for a number of massacres in a number of villages and small settlements, also of certain travelling caravans. This was during the first few transformations; when he had not got the hang of controlling them and his thirst for slaughter was too strong. He kept on the move a lot, occasionally purchasing places in various parts of Europe as he made his way around. Questions would be asked, as after a few decades, he knew he would not age. Thus, people would inevitably get suspicious if he gave them the opportunity to do so. Centuries later, he recognised power when the one known as Mythika was born. Velissarios was wary, unlike some other individuals who were destroyed attempting to take her power. In his head, Andronikos murmured far more on that, especially when Mythika disappeared. Velissarios decided that he would need help, if he was to obtain more power from Mythika, and destroy her servants. So he turned to Kayran, after travelling to the Seven Realms, and quickly proved himself to be a skilled, and by no means weak sorcerer, and a fighter considerably skilled with more mundane abilities, too. Another of his most useful assets was the fact that he could assume his Lycan form, as well as possessing enhanced senses and reflexes in both human and Lycan forms.

He was also taught the art of swordplay as befitting his status. In became quite apparent as he was learning that not only was he a wizard, but he was a fairly powerful one at that. Also through his swordplay lessons he found that he had a naturally affinity for the blade and was quite adept at it. His parents harbored dreams of a powerful patriarch for the family, but one morning, all those hopes and dreams were dashed.
The day had started out normal, with a servant coming in to wake Apollo up, but when he went to the bed he discovered that under the covers were only pillows, and that the head was a crude sculpture of Apollo's. Apollo had run away to pursue a life of adventure, fighting, and general rabble rousing, hoping to find contentment where he couldn't back at home. He wandered the country side, picking fights with anyone and everyone, until someone came to him and gave him a cause that gave his life meaning, hunting evil wizards.
Apollo threw himself into the task, but he became disillusioned when he noticed that no matter how hard he tried, or fought, more and more evil wizards sprang up. The final straw was when his former mentor betrayed him and tried to kill him. Now Apollo is in a similar state as before, drifting, picking fights, and just generally being a rabble rouser.

Age : 24.
Species Human
Gender: Male
Appearance

Allegiances Kayran.
Personality : Daniel is an happy fellow, although he doesn't like magic at all, and becomes really serious and cynical when a wizard/witch is around. Is also gentle, and has often prolonged his hunts for the well-being of his soldiers of the purple eye.
A short bio : Called 'Terror of Death', is one of Kayran most feared hunter, due to his weapon: His scythe is capable of cutting the magical energies instead of flesh, istantly sucking away the magical energy of every creature (killing them in the process if the magical energy was developed).
Daniel's symbol, a purple eye, is pretty famous between his little squad of hunters. He's however working on false beliefs: Kayran convinced him that his family was murdered once by a wizard, making him hate any form of magical power.

Hello, everyone. All apps to this point accepted (Nachfolgia, put your bio in a separate post when it's finished so that I actually remember to add it). I'll add the applied characters (and Kayran) to the list soon.

Firstaria, I liked the general idea of your character so much that I named him Kayran's second in command. :)

here's my bio

born in Greece, Naida is the direct result of a mortal woman having sex with a water spirit.

By the way, are magical creatures hunted too? Because my scythe can kill them, so I need to know.

And yes, my scythe kill only mages, but it's still a blunt object if I want :p .

2 applications, which can be used for either or both sides.

1) Some magical creatures, but not all. Creatures like unicorns and phoenixes (those with magic qualities of their own, such as the ability for phoenix tears to heal) have organized magical energies, and are thus hunted. Others, such as owls (to give a Harry Potter example, if it's of any relevance), are not, since their magical energies are not organized, and hence not useful.

Name: Artemis Ley'entera
Age (Great wizards don't become great overnight - be reasonable): 838
Species (any human-like magical species is up for grabs - no phoenixes or minotaurs, but elves, faeries, goblins, centaurs, etc. are fine): Elf
Gender: M
Appearance (Picture if possible, please. If not, be detailed!)
Image

Allegiances (Mythikan or Kayran?): Mythikan
Personality (be detailed!): Artemis is generally reserved. Not much of a 'people person', he is actually quite partial to Mythika. He will risk much, but not his own or other's lives.

RP samples (If I've RPed with you before, not necessary - just say so. Otherwise, 1-3 links or paragraphs, please): Y'know me.

How hard is it to get a dark elf battlemage not looking like a slut? *sigh*
Allegiances (Mythikan or Kayran?): Kayran

Is it alright if I do a werewolf/Lycan-mage type character?
Because I'm on a roll for doing characters like that.

Name: Velissarios Komnenos

Age (Great wizards don't become great overnight - be reasonable): 900

Species (any human-like magical species is up for grabs - no phoenixes or minotaurs, but elves, faeries, goblins, centaurs, etc. are fine): Human(Lycanthrope)

Gender: Male

Appearance
Image And Lycan if that's okay here: Image

Age: 1200
Species: Elf
Gender: Male
Appearance

In addition he carries a cane that contains his sword, which gets bigger when he releases the seal.

Allegiances: Neutral
Personality: His aloofness is obfuscatory and hides a sarcastic side that comes out when he feels the need to be sarcastic. He is a drifter now, but he once believed in a cause and could be convinced to join one.
A short bio: Apollo Carmichael was born to a fairly wealthy elvish family. From a young age it was apparent that he had magical abilities, so his parents hired the best tutors and teachers around.
