MODULUM DEI :: God within the Machine



They always told us that playing god would be our downfall. But what did we care? WE, who could alter the way we walk, talk, and even think. WE, who could push the limits of what we once thought possible. WE, who could break the barrier between god and machine.

It all started in the year 1973, in a small laboratory outside of New York City, New York. This lab, full of stainless steel apparatus and biovac environments, was the home to a singularly talented scientist and machinist. His name, Edison Forge, would prove to become a household staple almost overnight. For Mr. Forge was not your ordinary scientist, and his experiments were of a strange nature as well. His goal, his purpose in life (at least as he would tell you), revolved around an idea so bizarre and so rooted in the realm of science fiction that only the bravest of venture capitalists would spend the time to even listen to his plans. The plan, codenamed System FORGE, was to blur the lines between man and machine. And in that fateful year of 1973, the first cyber-modified human being would step forth into a crowd of no less than 5,000 reporters from various countries. Mr. Forge had succeeded, but was nowhere to be found.



This looks good. I assume he made the machines so he could use them as sex bots.

Well, looks like it's back to the drawing board. Lewina just went and spoiled my machinoerotic subplot. ggwp.

Has there ever been a RP based on John Carpenter's The Thing? I have thought of this before, but never decided to make one because I suck at being OP. It's pretty much my favorite sci-fi horror movie and I like the concept of people playing a game of pure paranoia, whilst running around with flamethrowers lighting everything on fire. I have a hard time figuring how it would be played, though. How would you go about infecting other player's/NPC's without the others knowing?

I just want to know if anyone would be up for making one and would he/she explain their idea to me?

Sounds like it would work well as a Mafia-type game, where a certain number of people are the "things" and the others are the proverbial "townsfolk".

The thing itself is rumored to be an endless collective of Hivemind intelligences melded together for survival by sprouting out various spawns ( ie the various thing monsters in the movie who were all lead by the alpha "thing"). A person could go for days not knowing they were infected until it became necessary for the hive-mind to use them.

Been toying around with a concept in my head for the last few days. There's tons of Nation RP's centered on the Ages of Colonialism/Imperialism, which often fail because of the scope of focus necessary to accurately portray controlling a world-spanning Empire, or establishing one, is simply beyond the ability of normal RPers to undertake. Which is understandable, it too extraordinarily intelligent and ambitious men to undertake these kinds of ambitions IRL, often with years of experience and formal training in politics, diplomacy, and statecraft.

So, why not cut it down to something smaller, and have a RP centered around the companies and organizations that colonized the New World? Europe would be relatively the same to RL, with some differences so it's not just Spanish, French, British and Dutch explorers romping around the Americas. It would feature more structure, so people would have to worry about money and their relations with the natives, but still freeform enough so you're still controlling the fate of your colonists. Relatively. I mean, I wouldn't hesitate to throw in a native ambush and have the entire expedition die a painful and horrible death if it suits the scenario, but that's bound to happen eventually

It would probably take place sometime during the mid-1500's, with most of the existing New World European empires swept away to make it a little less historical and more open. Thoughts, opinions?

So, you want a high class, high fantasy roleplay filled with proper language, a billion Tolkeinisms, and some Narnia thrown in for good measure? Well, I'm sorry, but this is not the place for you. You see, this RP is for people who want to do whatever the hell they want in a fantasy world with no name, no history, and almost nothing planned out aside from what creatures you get to play as. Sure, there will be action, emotions, hilarity, and of course the obligatory rapist or two, but there will be no high class language, no Narnia references, and not even a mention of mister Tolkein.
