A not-so-human-humanoid-wolf-thing, Van was created though the genetic manipulation of a human fetus as is standard practice of Malshanic law. He grew up in a civilized technocracy and used the vast library to learn things beyond his years. He now runs around acting a lot less knowledgeable than he actually is. Millennia of literature, cooking recipes, and law books are floating around in his head, all waiting to be accessed when needed.

Really, the only reason he's still sane is because half of his brain has been replaced with cyber-mechanical implants.
