Nat: Night's always in some bizarre state somewhere between "intoxicated enough to kill a hair metal lead singer" and "annoying Mormon missionary sober".
Swith: It's because you're so awesome. God himself refreshes the screen before he types just to see if Nightkill has written anything while he was off somewhere else.

John looked up from his computer's screen, the light of the screen throwing as backwash of white across his face as he looked up at Krishna as the man stumbled into the room. He blinked rapidly as he flipped the lights on, then back down at the thin black laptop in his lap. "How are you, uncle~?" he asked quietly. Despite the man actually being his cousin, he still called him 'uncle'. Respect for your elders and shit like that, right?
"Breakfast?" he asked, offering up a couple half-eaten pieces of toast. Probably from last night, guessing how dry it was, and the fact that John often spent his nights at the closest power outlet. Sometimes he even slept.

She let him overtake her on the stairs, following him and Daddy. Halfway down, she heard a thunderous crash and rushed the rest of the way to see whatever interesting thing made that noise. (Eris took it as read that interesting and loud were synonymous). She got her first whiff of cigarette smoke the second before she rounded the corner and saw him sitting there, effortlessly casual with his feet on the table the broken window behind him.
"Uncle Vlad!" she cried, delighted. She loved her uncle. She loved everything about him, down to the smell of his cigarettes. It was an effection enhanced by how rarely she saw him. She climbed onto his lap, threw her arms around his neck, and kissed his stubbly face. "Butterfly Baby knew you were coming," she said, turning her eyes to Anthony's macaroni "She told Daddy, and he told me. She didn't say why, though. Or how long you were staying."

Of course, the "nightmare" was just a lie, and Alexis bet her mother knew it. However, neither of them really cared. It was just an excuse to spend more time together in ways that a family probably shouldn't.
Scooting up closer to the older woman, Alexis cuddled up to her still sleeping mother and smiled. She lay there for some time, watching the woman sleep, before finally kissing her on the cheek.
"It's morning, Mommy," she said softly, "Time to get up."

It took her an hour to be wake enough to pay real attention to much of anything. How she got decent grades in her first period class was but one of the Mysteries of the Khan clan. She shuffled down the stairs, holding a now half-empty jar of peanut butter in her hand. "G'morning everyone..." She did, however, perk up at the smell of macaroni. "Oh, excellent, Anthony made breakfast today!" She went from a regular morning zombie shuffle to a fast zombie shuffle towards the source of food. She promptly sat down next to Anthony and proceeded to devour her macaroni. Food was one of the few things that could accelerate her waking process. She blamed her hyperactive metabolism.

Erinkita wrote:Eris savoured her moment of spinnig through the air, her mouthful of baby teeth grinning so wide the top of her head might fall off. She brushed her silky black hair out of her eyes when her uncle set her down. He was right, she had gotten bigger. It had been almost three years since New Daddy had adopted her, and the hale and healthy girl she was now was a world away from the tiny malnourished toddler that had first entered the Khan manor.
The little girl stared, entranced, at the spinning miniature Uncle Vlad put in front of her. She was about three inches high and exquisitely detailed. She wore a white tutu, gone cream with age, and her hair was black like Eris's, although it was short and curly where hers was long as straight. Her upper body bent lazily backwards as if she was about to let herself fall, her arms outstretched above her head, and her face held and expression of the deepest serenity. Her tiny eyes were closed, her long eyelashes shown as thin black lines of her cheeks, and her plump red lips curled slightly upward in a half smile. She was at peace. The soft mechanical lullaby kept her frozen in this moment of sublime tranquility just before she let herself fall. Eris had never seen anything so beautiful.
"Thank you, Uncle Vlad," she said, aware of how inadequate those words sounded.
She realised that she had been staring at it for several minutes while the macaroni in front of her grew cold, so she carefully shut the box and got stuck into breakfast.
"Good," she answered her cousin Anthony "Bigbear's took her to watch the sunrise. And the Big Sisters told me that 101 percent isn't real. And..." she trailed off. As always, she couldn't bring herself to talk about New Old Daddy. Anthony didn't know about him anyway. She wondered if anyone else had heard him last night. The banging from inside hercloset had woken her up. He'd never done that before. She hadn't gotten out of bed, not in the dark, not for him. She had pulled the covers of her head and did her best to wish him away, and eventually the banging stopped. "Butterfly Baby told Daddy Uncle Vlad was coming," she said. She was happy to talk about Butterfly Baby, her pale twin that other people saw far more often than she did. "She's here more than she used to be. Did she say anything to you?"

The Nuclear Fist wrote:"Presents, everyone! I have brought presents for everyone!" Vlad said unnecessarily loudly, jumping up atop the table and kicking over some plates and assorted cutlery. Vlad grabbed the large, burlap sack he had been keeping under the table and tossed it on top of the table, opening it. Looking to see who all was in the dining room, Vlad pictured them in their underwear. He wasn't sure why he was doing that, since he wasn't nervous nor was it called for, but he found it particularly funny. Besides, it wasn't like he hadn't all seen them in worse states. He had seen all of these boys and girls, save Eris (who was adopted well after being that time of age) as newborns in diapers. Even Krishna. Although considering how old he was, Vlad had seen most human beings in diapers.
What was he thinking about, again?
Oh yeah, presents. He thought. "Everyone, shut your stupid holes and get over here, Uncle Vlad brought things for you." He barked, voice stern and authoritative.
