Evolution (OOC/Interest)

Postby Photana » Sat Sep 15, 2012 4:10 pm

(IC thread: http://forum.nationstates.net/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=200340)

Life. One of the most certain aspects of the universe. Recently (In geological terms), life started on a distant star's planet. Or rather, started again. For you see, this planet's life had been wiped out more than once. On one occasion, it wiped itself out! But that was a very long time ago. All remnants of that civilization are long gone, lost to the annals of the geological process. This planet is not native to this star, but it was instead spared the fate of dieing to it's home star by the very civilization that wiped out life on it's surface. Deep inside the planet, lava still churns, and the core still turns, producing a magnetic sphere to protect the surface. Life can start again, but will it learn from the past, or repeat the mistakes of it's forefathers?

RULES/Xtra st00f
No Ubering/God-Modding.
This isn't Spore evolution, you won't "Add parts," instead you will slowly evolve to meet what your environment requires.
If you haven't picked it up yet, your species is a single cell at the start.
No super-fast evolution.
Two species can combine to make one being.
Species can go extinct, you can just make a new one.

Joining sheet (For now.)
Name of Species: (Try and make it Latin, or at least Latin sounding.)
Prokaryote or Eukaryote:
Plant, Animal, Fungus, or Virus?:
(If Animal) Herbivore, Carnivore, or Chemical Eater?:
(If Virus) Bacteriophage or Omniphage?:

Your test scores indicate that you are an open-minded ultra-progressive; this is the political profile one might associate with a journalist. It appears that you are skeptical towards religion, and have a generally optimistic attitude towards humanity in general.
Your attitudes towards economics appear neither committedly capitalist nor socialist, and combined with your social attitudes this creates the picture of someone who would generally be described as a liberal.
To round out the picture you appear to be, political preference aside, a considerate idealistic egalitarian with many strong convictions.

Name of Species: Fera Domitora (Animal Tamer in rough English)
Prokaryote or Eukaryote: N/A (I'm a virus, so, yeah...)
Plant, Animal, Fungus, or Virus?: Virus
Herbivore, Carnivore, or Chemical Eater?: N/A
Bacteriophage or Omniphage?: Omniphage, assuming you mean that I target animals or plants.

I've been waiting for something like this for some while. I'm quite interested in biology roleplays.

Name of Species: Vitam Tuus
Prokaryote or Eukaryote: prokaryote
Plant, Animal, Fungus, or Virus?: can I be a Protobiont? They're just as alive as viruses are, if not more so.
(If Animal) Herbivore, Carnivore, or Chemical Eater?: N/A
(If Virus) Bacteriophage or Omniphage?: Bacteriophage

Just to be clear: this is a cell about the size of a very large virus that lives inside of other cells. It has a small coil of RNA for reproduction purposes, but otherwise all cell functions are done by proteins. It has a very strong tubular cell wall, with an open section of membrane on either end to let nutrients and waste come in and out. It lives by breaking down whatever kinds of proteins come into it, and that includes viruses and antibodies. Very helpful if the host adapts to it, very deadly if not.
it is my firm belief that I should never have to justify my beliefs.

we should have it so that viruses or other in-cell "organisms" have to RP inside of animals and plants, once they become large enough. That should make for some very interesting turf wars.

virii can't evolve intelligence, since they live by (basically) having sex with their host until the host dies. Thats why after 3,000,000,000 years viruses are still pieces of genetic code encased in a protein shell.
Also, 10 generations is a painfully short time for evolution. How about 1,000 generations?
