Star flinched at the name and hummed a different song. "You know...I might just sleep in my room." She didn't move at first but then did slowly and waited by the door and opened it, slowly. looking out and around.

The 'death ray' merely flowed around the scutum shield, reinforced with strong, thin planks and metal sheets. Stry, a veteran of many battles, knew just how to lean forward to absorb the shock of impact, and just how to press and push. The heat was hot, certainly, but it didn't so much as give him a sunburn where his skin was not covered by sheets of iron or mail.
