Earth Guard: A Strange Reunion (OOC, OPEN)

Postby Ceannairceach » Fri Aug 10, 2012 4:25 pm

EARTH GUARD
A Strange Reunion

When the call was made to gather the defenders of humanity, you answered. When Earth and all its peoples were in danger of oppression, subjugation, and annihilation, you were there. When the world was in peril and it seemed that all hope was lost, you restored the faith in tomorrow. You were a member of a the Earth Guard, and when the world needed you, you came. But now, you are alone, and the world needs you again.

Humanity saw a rise in superhumans since the start of the twentieth century, men and women with powers unlike any other. Their appearances dotted the globe, and though none were documented officially, people knew they existed. The first to gain prominence was Sir Iron, an Irish-born Brit who served his monarch during the Great War, crushing tanks and shattering trenches as he absorbed and reflected bullets and shells. Though he was eventually slain by the German Blitzfuhrer, the shockwaves sent by the man's coming out set the floor for future change.

Superhumans worldwide came out of their closets, usually in costume and with secret identities to protect them form those who would abuse them, from governments to villainous superhumans. Though governments for the next few decades attempted to crack down on these vigilantes, superhumans joined up with the civil rights movements of the second half of the twentieth century, campaigning for their rights to be free from discrimination or capture and even deputized status. They won these rights and more, with registered superheroes becoming official deputies and law enforcers.

Soon after the Superhuman Rights Act of 1970, the villainous community took a turn for the worse; The formation of the Pact of Villainy saw a rise in the number of supervillains and their plots, such that superheroism became a much needed job. This led directly to the formation of counter leagues, the first of which was the Alliance to Restore Hope and Faith, a union of forty members and seventy odd affiliates who combated and destroyed the Pact within five years of its foundation.

New groups followed the Alliance's eventual fragmentation in the mid nineteen eighties, from the French-based Cross of Loraine to the Korean Yi Sun-sin Honor Guard. And though all these groups could claim to be descendents of the first superhuman team, only one could claim to be its successor; the Earth Guard.

Led by the noble and mysterious Vigiles, iconic in an Romanesque uniform with a cavalry mask, the Earth Guard quickly took the place of the Alliance to Restore Hope and Faith, even if by a lesser extent, regaining much of its old property and several senior members as mentors, members and affiliates, Vigiles himself a former senior member. With stations across the seven continents and based in Chicago, the Earth Guard ruled the world for a time, as the most popular and influential people of the tail end of the twentieth century. The largest of the new groups with thirty regular members and over sixty affiliates, and the first organization to accept artificial superhumans, they became the face of superhumans over the course of their career.

But, as if the Y2K conspiracies and attempted realizations came true in some form, the Earth Guard was not meant to last. With the dawn of the new millennium, the Earth Guard began to fracture with intra-organization rivalries, and finally shattered as newer members grew tired of the somewhat dictatorial and secretive rule of Vigiles and those close to him. They split in the year two thousand and five, taking many of the new blood and potential recruits with them, forming the democratic and short lived New Earth Guard, leaving the unofficially Old Earth Guard without a new source of blood as its members, those without the power of immortality at least, aged and became weaker or dissatisfied with the life of a hero.

Eventually, the Earth Guard was no more, its members leaving to join new superhero teams, go solo or even retire from public life. Some attempts were made to reform the Guard, but never had it gained much momentum. Until now.

Last month, Vigiles, the secretive and majestic former leader of the Earth Guard, was found dead, impaled upon a chitinous spike, unmasked and branded with a shape that appears to be a violin. Despite being credited as being one of the most powerful superhumans in the world, with the powers of metal manipulation, flight and super strength, Terrence Patrick, as he was known in his civilian life, was no match for whoever, or whatever, felled him.

Other such cases have been appearing across the world, with high profile superhumans dying in apparently superhuman-influenced ways, always unmasked and left with a violin-shaped brand upon a visible location. The many superhero teams around the world have began to organize, fearing a resurgence of some of the worse supervillains or supervillain teams, despite a lack of suspects, and even evidence.

Fearing the worst, some of the more senior members of the defunct Earth Guard have called its former members and affiliates back to its base in Chicago, now a museum to their achievements. From across the world, motivated by fear, nostalgia, duty or even boredom, the old members of the Earth Guard are gathering to fight the growing storm that is plaguing the superhuman community. Many members, though, do not intend on rejoining, preferring their current lot to the days long by.

Will this new, ragtag amalgamation of has-beens and nearly-weres be enough to combat this new terror, or will they crumble under its force? The fate of this world lies in their hands.

Alright, if you didn't bother to read the above--I wouldn't blame you--let me give you a short summary. You are a former member of a now defunct superhuman organization in the year 2013. A rash of murders, the victims all high profile superheroes, have occurred, and the Earth Guard, this superhero organization, is being recalled to their headquarters in Chicago to organize a defense against this new threat.

I hope this to be the first in a new series of RP's based around the recreation of this superhero organization, and the adventures thereof. I have the idea for the first few episodes, all of which I hope to get through, activity allowing, but I will always be open to suggestions.

Some quick rules, in no particular order, before I throw up the application.

1) Please follow all NS rules and conventions, including when dealing with other NSers and when RPing. This means, no flames or trolling, no godmodding, and all other standard rules for the site and for RPing.

2) Do attempt to keep things realistic, as far as possible for a superhero RP. I will not be limiting powers or number of powers in the app, so you could say you have a dozen powers, but if I judge you to be overpowered for the sake of the plot, I will not accept you, and I will also boot you from the RP if I feel that you are being unfair and unrealistic in the IC.

3) Please be respectful and communicative in the OOC and IC threads, as far as dealing with other players goes. Do not pick fights or YELL that they are cheating. Talk it out calmly here, and get me to rule on it if I'm on.

4) Suggestions and challenges of my rulings are welcome and noted, but please do not subvert or attempt to override my powers as OP, except through legitimate NS means (ie mods, etc).

5) Be creative. I will refuse to accept copies of already-created fictional characters, even those without powers but for the sake of the RP made to have them. If you want to use the image but a (completely) different set of powers and story, feel free, but I will be keeping an eye out for intentional similarities.

Alright, that done, moving on to the application. Please remove the parentheses and all things that are in them. This will be a test to see if you've read at least part of this OP, and also, they are merely explanations of the fields.

NationStates Name: Ceannairceach
Character Name: Isabella Takahashi
Alias: Masquerade
Age: 44
Nationality: Japanese-American
Appearance: Here, roughly with some aging, and wearing this mask.
Powers: Power mimicry, shapeshifting [limited to her general form], substance mimicry, elongated longevity
Biography: Born to an American mother and Japanese father, Isabella Takahashi, named for her great aunt who was one of the founding members of the Alliance to Restore Hope and Faith, Isabella was noted for having powers early, and given her first costume, a simple leotard, cape and eye mask by her great aunt, then-retired. She trained with many different superhumans throughout her early life, and at the age of seventeen created her own secret identity and registered as a superhero.

By the age of twenty she had gained prominence as one of the newest generation of Superheroes, and it also became clear that she had the passive ability of elongated longevity. She was recruited via invitation by the Earth Guard in 1989, making her a second-generation member of the organization. Her skills in mimicry of both the shapeshifting sort and the power and substance sort were valued and honed in the Guard, making her an experienced and powerful superhuman.

She eventually was invited into Vigiles' inner circle, where she developed a somewhat personal relationship with the man and others in the leadership. When the New Earth Guard split from the Old, she remained loyal, and stayed in contact with Vigiles and a number of other former members when the Guard disbanded. She, along with a handful of others from both the New and Old Earth Guard spearheaded the attempt to rejuvenate the team in the wake of Vigiles' death, reemerging from her career as a solo hero in Japan since the Guard's breakup.

Character Name: Johann Steele

Alias: Steele

Age: 31

Nationality: Germany

Appearance: Image [Bane was so awesome in TDKR]

Powers: Super-strength [SH 800lbs-2ton Range], Super-speed [Low-Level], Enhanced Reflexes, Kinetic Energy Manipulation

Biography: Johann Steele, more commonly known simply as Steele, was born to German parents who immigrated early in his life to the United States. Growing up as a young boy in Illinois, he found a love for all things physical. It was here that his powers manifested themselves to him, and while he kept them hidden from his parents, it was only a matter of time before they found out. When they did discover Johann's dark secret, they shipped him away immediately to a mental health institute, thinking that their child was a freak who needed to be contained for the safety of the world.. and in some ways, they were right. Johann spent the rest of his childhood -- from the age of 12 to the age of 18 -- in a padded cell being constantly fed sedatives. It was here that -- in a horrid experiment conducted by the doctors of the institute -- he was fitted with a metal mask that was bolted into his jaw and skull. He slowly began to slip into insanity, a deep and terrible place within his mind that even today is present. On his 18th birthday, he awoke from the sedatives feeling like the most powerful being on the planet. He slaughtered the doctors in his roof and then the ones that tried to restrain him, breaking free from the institution and escaping into the night. He briefly visited his parents, but after that traveled to Chicago, where he became a vigilante. In Chicago, no one knew who he was. He lived in squalid conditions and was unemployed, but at night.. at night, everyone knew who he was. And everyone was afraid of him. He struck back at those who preyed on the weak, channeling his anger from what his parents did to him to make sure no one else had to feel the fear he felt, and to experience the loss that he experienced. He was arrested 6 months into his vigilante work, but as a part of a growing initiative for Superhumans, he was handed over to the military and was forced to endure a year of extended physical and psychological testing before they deployed him on the frontlines of their campaigns. This is where he picked up his trademark French Revolutionary-era greatcoat and his combat gear that he always wore. He was invited to join the Earth Guard and the military transferred him to that "unit", where he preformed to great success. When the Earth Guard fell, he stayed with the Old Order but rejoined his old military squadron. Now, with the Earth Guard reforming, he will once again leave his military life in order to resume the mantle of what he was born to be.. a superhero.

Frigola wrote:(I see you re-use character names too, Mr Steele ;) )

NationStates Name: Frigola
Character Name: Daphne Castle
Alias: (The) Rat
Age: 24
Nationality: UK
Appearance:
Powers: Social Repulsion, Hypnotic Vision, Electrical Shockwave generation, Smoke Secretion (all random, from the powerlisting wikia, though I did have to skip some overpowered/inapplicable ones)
Biography: She was only shortly a member of Earth Guard, as the daughter and protegé of Plague Girl. At the time of the split, she and her mother were in the Amazon rainforest, tracking another super. When they heard what had happened, they finished the job and returned to Europe. When Plague Girl was killed in a car crash, Rat went undercover for several years, occasionally helping where needed, though she kept training as before. When the call to assemble came, she was hesitant, but heeded it nonetheless. Though her expectations are not high and she will be reluctant to team up.

Age: 27
Nationality: German
Appearance:
(Image) (He wears a face mask while amongst normal humans)

Powers: Slenderman physiology (http://powerlisting.wikia.com/wiki/Slender_Man_Physiology minus the time travel, hypnosis and mind control)
Biography: Klaus was born to an all German family in Hamburg,
and even from birth he was different. First off, he had no face, then the tentacles came out and his parents had hell with him as a child, because he had a tendency to vanish and reappear in another room altogether, plus electronics malfunctioned in his presence. But his biggest difference was that if he stared into someone's eyes for too long, they would go mad and try to kill themselves, which was a bit of disruption on his first date. He eventually left Germany and fled to England, where he joined the Earth Guard. When the Earth Guard broke up, he stayed with the old version, but soon left and stopped fighting crime. When Vigiles was found dead he joined the hunt for his killer.

Character Name: Jack Belton
Alias: Myrmidon
Age: 37
Nationality: Canadian
Appearance: snip
Powers: Enhanced strength, agility and speed at peak, but not superhuman, levels, Capable of withstanding bullets due to his high-tech body armour, knowledgable of various strategies to attack other superhumans, and carries various custom weaponry to combat other supers (A small shoulder-mounted gun capable of firing bullets that deliver a short EMP burst on contact, wrist mounted high-pressure water jets and TASERs, a small jet-pack capable of hovering in mid-air, enhancing jumps or slowing descent, but not true flight, electrical insulution across his entire suit and his mask can filter most toxins, unless they are alien to it.)
Biography: When Supers were first being discovered, governments across the world were wary of them. However, it wasn't until the 1970s, when the Alliance was formed and villain activity became more prominent, that the UN decided that there needed to be a counter-force to the supers, a group that would make sure Supers wouldn't get out of hand, just in case. It took ten years to complete, but a "Super-soldier" serum was eventually developed, along with a semi-invasive robotic suit that was designed to fight a variety of supers with a variety of powers. Years went by, and many iterations of "Myrmidon", the name given to those who donned the suit and took the serum, emerged and retired, most not seeing a single mission. The project was highly secretive, and as little people as possible were allowed to know about the project, meaning former scientists were often chosen to become Myrmidons. One such scientist was Jack Belton, the seventh Myrmidon, who was the current Myrmidon when the project was shut down. Jack managed to negotiate with his superiors, keeping the suit in exchange for keeping quiet about the Myrmidon project. A few years later, the Myrmidon Project was made public, and Jack reemerged as Myrmidon, joining the Earth Guard. When the Earth Guard disbanded, he joined the New Earth Guard, and has been a senior member ever since.
Roleplay Sample: I think you know me, but I'd be more than happy to provide samples if you want. Also, UNR membership.

Gideus wrote:NationStates Name: Gideus
Character Name: Jonasz Pielgrzym - Jonas Peregrinus once modernized/Englishized/Americanized/bastardized
Alias: The Hussar
Age: Birthdate - September 21st, 1588; actual age: 36
Nationality: Poland-Lithuania
Appearance: snip
Very muscular, he is a good example of humans at the peak of fitness. His body is riddled with old scars, mostly from his final battle as part of the Winged Hussars. In particular, there are scars from arrows or bolts up and down the right side of his body and a puncture wound from a sword in the lower left area of his torso, a few inches above the waist.
Powers: Temporal Displacement/Non-Aging; due to the "accident" in his final fight he does not age. This is not immortality; simply immunity from age.
His physical features; strength, speed, endurance, agility, etc., were already near their peak as he was an exemplary example of a Winged Hussar. However, the "accident" accelerated his metabolism and modified him. His strength, endurance, speed, agility, and other things are all slightly higher than that of a normal human. It is unclear if this is permanent or if after a certain amount of time this will wear off.
Regeneration; if he is not damaged beyond repair he will regenerate. It is unclear if this is permanent or if after a certain amount of time this will wear off.
Weapons Mastery - He has a natural affinity for weapons, particularly melee weapons.
Equipment: He has armor made from various alloys - not all of them something seen almost anywhere else - which has been made to replace the armor he appeared in. The "wings" are the original ones however; these, much like him and the armor he came into the 21st century in, are in a sort of chrono-stasis. They will not decay to time and he has gone through extensive measures to make sure the feathers will not be burnt or damaged in battle. The armor is not impenetrable, but it is very, very durable. He doesn't tell anyone what is used in its creation.
Power Lance
His lance, the 19-foot piece of badassery used by all of the Winged Hussars, has been modified - and shortened to twelve feet - extensively. Most of the wood has been removed, being replaced with high-durability alloys that have power circuitry build into them. This circuitry can be activated by Jonasz and any people related to him, as well as anyone who manages to obtain his blood in a high enough quantity, due to the small spikes in it which sample his blood to make sure it's him. The power circuitry, when activated, will emit waves of energy from various parts of the lance depending on how he holds it. If he activates a specific setting it may fire a focused beam of energy. It is obviously unwieldy in many situations, but it is still his favored weapon.
Hussar Swords
He has had his two swords, a short and long saber, reforged. They are now a high-durability and flexibility combination of iron and tungsten with a few other elements added in.
He also carries a Desert Eagle and two extra clips that aren't loaded. He can handle the recoil easily.
Biography: Born in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in the 16th century, Jonasz was the third son of a military commander. This commander's sons all served their King in the way that their father had as a young man, with arms. His eldest brother a front-line commander, the middle brother a tactician, he was destined to be a soldier. He was brought up with weapons and horses and his father paved the way for him to join the most decorated unit in the Commonwealth: the Winged Hussars. It turned out his father's wealth and influence was not needed for this however as Jonasz took naturally to warfare and to weaponry. He was recruited from basic training to advanced training without any help from his father. He was quickly turned to being his father's favorite son. Serving in many small-time conflicts and a few slightly larger ones, the final fight he served in was also the one which sent him flying centuries into the future.

In 1610, at the Battle of Klushino, the Commonwealth's finest fought. Six thousand Hussars attacked a far, far larger army and won. However, this was also one of the first "accounts" of superhuman powers, but it was called magic at the time. The Muscovites, what we could call "Russians", had a very small cadre of "warlocks and wizards". One of them had the ability to force people to disappear, although as Jonasz found out this was actually him sending them forward in time. Having charged into battle in an attempt to silence these individuals, this "warlock" simply touched Jonasz and he was flung through time and space along with his mount. As he simply flashed into existence at a Renaissance festival that Vigiles just so happened to be visiting, people thought he had a costume. A very good one. He had a real horse, real armor, was shouting in Polish, had a lance leveled in a charge, and had a gaping wound bleeding in his torso along with many arrows and bolts in his right side. At Vigiles's direction, he was apprehended and taken to the Earth Guard's base. This was all fifteen years ago.

Learning what had happened to him, he also learned of his new powers. Over time he began working for the Earth Guard to repay a "debt" to Vigiles for saving him when he first appeared in this world. He also began working on making and remaking his armor to hide his identity and whatnot. To this day, only Vigiles and a few of those closest to both of them know or knew what and who he truly is. When the Earth Guard broke up for the first time, the Hussar set off on his own, setting wrongs right in Europe. He kept in some sort of contact with Vigiles, him being the first friend he had ever made in this new world. However, when Vigiles turned up dead, the Hussar was one of the first people to return to the Chicago base and call for them to re-assemble.
Roleplay Sample: If the bio isn't enough I can write up the final fight or linky link. I'll do that a little later though.

Alright then. I was unclear as to the rules, not being a DeviantArt user. Thanks for the clarification.

No problem. I had an RP once before where I used the edited logo of a band that coincidentally is based near where I live. They contacted me via TG wanting to know why I used their logo, and I sorted it out after a few TG's. Thankfully, they were open enough to allow me to continue using it, even though the RP in question had died out a while ago.

A couple of notes. First, do you have permission from the artist to use that picture, or is it free use?Second, yes, but I'd like to see one before this RP begins. Third, you still need to post a roleplay sample, either linked or written.

(I see you re-use character names too, Mr Steele ;) )

NationStates Name: Frigola
Character Name: Daphne Castle
Alias: (The) Rat
Age: 24
Nationality: UK
Appearance:
Image

Roleplay Sample:

Downtown Paris

Nathaniel slowly opened the hatch and squinted in the bright morning daylight that shone through the cracks in the boards covering his windows. It had been eighteen weeks since he had closed the hatch and locked himself in his shelter/bunker. Eighteen weeks since he had seen the signs and decided that the time had finally come: the pharmaceutical corporations had managed to create a virus that would actually succeed in its intended goal. The previous attempts, commonly know as SARS, H1N1 and H5N1 had all failed to become truely pandemic. But this time, they had succeeded: by the time the news agencies heard of the outbreak in Albany, New York, 200 people had died and nearly 4000 others were ill. Shortly after, there came reports of the disease spreading to New York City. When the death toll reached 2000 in New York State alone (after 4 days), people in the US started to worry: fights erupted over basic goods, so-called prophets of doom were at every street corner heralding the end of time and such nonsense, government officials told people to stay calm, not worry and remain at home when possible and there were rumors of conspiracies and the like. From the offset, Nathaniel had known that the outbreak had been part of a bigger picture. When the disease started to spread out of New York state, Nathaniel added the final touches to his shelter and locked and boarded up his house before moving into the shelter and locking that too. He was able to keep up to date on the progression of the disease, at least at first, via radio and internet.

In the first month, the disease had spread to the rest of the USA, Canada, Mexico, Britain, France, Spain, New Zealand, Israel, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Ireland. Appearing to be simply deadlier than any other disease, except maybe the plague, it was not until the fifth week since the outbreak was first reported that something truely worrisome happened: the disease strain mutated to form a new disease that reporters named a "cross between the flu and rabies". The flu (H5N1, or avian flu) mutated to become fully zoonotic (meaning that humans could infect other humans; as opposed to requiring contact with birds) and also presented symptoms of rabies. So instead of spreading just slightly more rapidly than usual, the new flu strain spread at a terrifying pace. Two months after the outbreak, 1 billion people were reported to have been infected by the disease, the death toll was at least 100 million and the breakdown of order in certain parts of the world had been reported. Three months and the death toll had risen to 800 million, though about a third of this was due to rioting and murder (the latter caused by the rabies-like symptoms). Four and a half months and Nathaniel lost contact with the outside world as society collapsed in most of the world. The last report had said that 1.5 billion people were dead, a further 500 million were dying and another 2 billion were infected. Widespread violence had escalated to levels higher than any before. There was also research that showed that it was likely that when the agressive symptoms were shown, the disease was no longer transmissible through the air and only through bodily contact and contact with infected fluids.

Nathaniel was taking no risks when he finally decided to come out of his shelter: he pulled on a hazmat suit and picke up a shotgun from its rack. He pulled himself further out of the shelter and closed and locked the hatch. He stood up and went over to the door, unlocking and unbolting it before cautiously opening it and stepping outside. He stared around him and his mouth dropped open: dead bodies lay everywhere, not a single living being was visible. Carrion birds also littered the ground, along with other fowl. The damage to the city was minimal, though some areas were badly burnt and several buildings had collapsed. As Nathaniel walked into the middle of the street, he happened to glance down at one of the bodies and was revolted to see bite marks on its neck and blood covering the corpse. It seemed as if few people had died due to the direct effects of the illness. Several riot police with mangled faces were clumped together near a burnt out police van. Nathaniel decided very quickly that he needed to get out of town as quickly as possible and he would go to the countryside where he hoped that conditions would be better. But first he was going to find a lorry and collect provisions and equipment. As far as he knew, he was one of the only people to have survived the disease. But that would not stop him, he would still search for more survivors whenever possible.

Nathaniel turned the key and smiled when the engine roared to life. He pressed carefully down on the accelerator and the articulated lorry moved forward away from the docking space with a screeching noise as the lorry scraped against the car that had stopped nearly directly in front of the lorry. Nathaniel winced and turned the wheel slightly so that the car was pushed aside and the lorry was able to move more quickly. Nathaniel had filled up the lorry with long-lasting food (cans, jars, dried food) and bottles of water. His next stop was a nearby outdoors shop where he would get MRE-like food and camping equipment along with a map of the area. For some curious reason, he picked up two other shotguns with ammunition as well as two hunting knives (with sheaths) and a professional bow with arrows (though the reason was mystery too). When he loaded everything in the lorry, he sat in the cabin and looked at the map searching for the nearest castle or defensible position. He decided to head for the Fortresse du Mont-Valérien where he hoped to find a working (or formerly working, he corrected himself) military base. Its name implied at least some defensibility and so Nathaniel put the map on the seat next to him and started up the lorry again. Before pulling out he thought a moment about what else he needed. He smiled as he remembered that book he had once read about suriving if ever a zombie apocalypse happened. Nathaniel guessed that this disease was close enough. He suddenly thought about some advice in the book concerning defenses and turned the lorry down another street. He was headed for a hardware shop for tools, metal and concrete in the likely event that the fort was not defensible.

The truck was now just about full, Nathaniel had, in about an hour, added packets of seed for growing food, wood, quick-mix concrete, a roll of steel cable, the most powerful drill in the shop, a welding torch, a miscellany of other tools and smaller parts. He had used a forklift to transport more wood and equipment to the loading bay for when he returned. He also made a mental note to find a good-sized 4x4 that he would transform into a homemade tank. Before finally going to the fort, he passed by his house and picked up his copy of the book on surviving a zombie attack to make sure he did not forget anything. Finally, he was on his way to his new home; just as he began to doubt that there were any "zombies" (infected people) he saw a group of about 4 zombies sitting on the edge of a wall. Only by what they were doing (gnawing on some bones) did he know that they were infected. Though a zombie he saw later walking down the middle of the street (before he was squashed by the lorry Nathaniel was driving) was obviously a vampire: he was missing an arm and his face was mangled beyond recognition. As far as he knew, there were not many zombies anymore due to the many disease related deaths and the people consumed by infected people.

It was around midday by the time he arrived at his new home. When saw the gates from a distance, he shook his head and accelerated, his lorry easily breaking through the rusted chainlink gate. He picked up his shotgun and jumped down from the cabin. Keeping an eye for any infected people, he walked around to the back of the lorry where strapped the two other shotguns to his back after loading them. He also strapped a knife in its sheath to his belt. He closed the doors and headed for the main building of the fortress. He was unsurprised to find the fort empty of zombies, though he was surprised to discover that it was completely empty. He had expected to see soldiers who had died of the disease. When he returned to the lorry, he unloaded the welding torch and some metal of various shapes. There being two gates, Nathaniel would weld one shut and strengthen the one he knocked over. He first welded metal rods to reinforce the general structure of the gate and added metal sheets to strengthen the structure. Using a winch and rope, he pulled the gate upright and into position on the hinges which he also reinforced. He placed two removeable metal bars across the two parts of the gate. He made a mental note to pick up more hinges, a padlock and a chain the next time he passed the hardware store. As he loaded his tools and materials back into the truck, he was starting to enjoy himself, sort of especially when he though of how much freedom he would have and all the stuff he could do. He drove his lorry to the building with the fewest windows and began unloading the food and water into the basement. By this time, the sun was low in the west, so he stopped unloading the food and water and began boarding up the downstairs windows and doors except for one, which he reinforced.

He was exhausted by the time he was settled behind a desk on the first floor of the building he had chosen. He swung his feet on to the desk and lay back in the chair with one shotgun across his legs. From his position, he could clearly see the gate and was directly above the only entrance to his building which was securely locked. He wondered if it was worth the generator power to set up a CCTV network around the base. He made another note to look into on the morrow. Before the sun went below the horizon, Nathaniel caught sight of movement out of the corner of his eye. He had been looking at some military documents and quickly sat up and looked through the window with binoculars he had found: beyond the gates, he could see two infected humans (the blood dripping from their mouths and hands was a bit of a giveaway. Nathaniel mourned the fact that he had no sniper rifle or even a scope. He would have no chance of hitting either of the zombies from this distance. He sat back in his chair and returned to the documents, occasionally glancing towards the gates. As he sat, he smiled and wondered where he could find a minigun; he had heard that they were particularly effective against zombies. He would have to check for armouries in the fort and in other forts and maybe the air bases too. He guessed that at least one helicopter would be equipped with some kind of multiple barreled machine gun. He chuckled quietly as he imagine himself turning the fort into a heavily armed complex.

"Of course, I should probably search for more survivors, with two people defending this place, once I've completed the defences, it would be invincible." he said aloud as he tossed the documents on to the table and got up to get his sleeping area ready. He had picked up a hammock from the garden centre and proceeded to hang it between a wall and a cabinet. He was about to make a mental note to go and find a radio transmitter but he thought it wiser to write it and his other mental notes on a piece of paper.

enough?

Oh, yes, and as a note I'll make hear, feel free to discuss things such as if your characters were close in the Earth Guard before it split, or the inverse. I'll be bringing up a topic that needs some collaboration in a similar way soonish.

Heh, I get you. I randomize powers occasionally then build a character around them to waste time.

Lexiconicy? Dude, that's a great power to have. All you have to do is write down "SWORD" and you've got a sword.

At least you didn't get Lactose Manipulation, which is what I got the second time I used the random power function.
