The Dark Shards (OOC/Open)

Postby Sweater Town » Fri Aug 03, 2012 1:13 pm

Long ago, in ancient Babylon a man by the name of Mushussu witnessed a star fall to earth. Locating the fallen star, he discovered that it was, in fact, a meteor made up of what appeared to be pure ruby. Not only this, but the ruby was perfectly round, about the size of a modern soccer ball. Mushussu took the ruby home and began studying it. He discovered that it held phenomenal paranormal power. Mounting it to a staff, Mushussu set out to take over Babylon and, indeed, the entire world. However, at the peak of Mushussu's reign of terror, just before he finally took over, the Ruby shattered, spreading fragments all across the globe. The blast turned Mushussu into a terrible monster. Thankfully, a Babylonian priest found a single shard and used it to imprison Mushussu in a pocket dimension prison, the entrance to which he hid in the city. Only that completed Ruby Sphere could unlock Mushussu's prison.

The shards of the ruby changed the course of history. Each shard contained a fraction of the powers the completed sphere contained. They eventually found themselves in the possession of some of history and myth's greatest heroes and villains. These people incorporated the ruby shards into everyday items, which then took on the powers the shards possessed. These artifacts have survived to this day, and are now in the hands of two groups of people.
The Cult of Mushussu: Those who want to reform the sphere and release Mushussu, and are using their personal shard artifacts to collect others.
The Protectors: Those who use their shard artifacts to fight back against the Cult.

So basically, you'll choose a side, pick an artifact (real or imaginary) from history, and battle it out. The artifacts power's always relate to the person who owned them, or the event that surrounded them (ala Warehouse 13). It all takes place in the modern day era.

Name: Sylvia Pines
Appearance: Image
Allegiance: The Protectors
Personality: Nice, positive girl who you can rarely get mad. But if you do get her mad, watch out.
Brief Bio: Born in London, Sylvia inherited her artifact and her father's position in the protectors when he died in battle. She is a high ranking member of the protectors, who have no leaders but still have ranks.
Artifact: The Staff of Moses (the ruby is imbedded in the top.)
Artifacts Powers: Control over water (can both control it and create springs), can also enact any of the ten plagues of Egypt, even the 10th plague: death. But Sylvia never, ever uses that power: it can cause corruption and insanity in the user.

I'm certainly up for this. Would a neutral character be allowed?

Certainly, though the Cult would still be out for your ruby enhanced artifact.

Well, I imagine both sides would be.

Also, every time I play a neutral character I end up fighting with the OP about one detail: relative fighting ability. I'd like a vague application of the law of conservation of ninjitsu, otherwise my character is pretty much useless because the good guys and the evil guys each have ten times as many people as I do, and so I end up being curb stomped.

Is this allowed?

Approved! I'll let you know about the position of leader as other apps come in.

Also: for those who don't know, I made up Mushussu's story but not the name or what he looks like as a monster.

Image

The Mushussu, seen above, is a recurring image in Babylonian art and architecture. I just gave it a story. The Mushussu is even mentioned in the bible a couple times! Thought you ought to know.

How should this be incorporated in?

Just allow my character to be slightly more powerful than the rest, so if he fights everyone at once, they'll still mash him up, but if they're stupid, he can beat them one by one.

Ok, um. Here's what I'll say: post your app, I'll look it over and base it on that. I just don't want it to get too god-mody. Also, know that the Protectors won't be after your ruby. If anything, they'll be trying to protect you from the cult. They don't collect ruby's themselves. In fact they like them spread out. Too many rubies in one place makes it easier for the Cult to complete their task.

Oh nice RP. Mayhap I'll see if I can perhaps do a character. Mayhap he be Sumerian. I am aware that Babylonian things are all basically new Sumerian. And I know lots about that kinda stuff. Also the artefact could be many things, including the mace of Ninurta- Sharur.

A little bird told me, "Go, Go! Socialise! Talk to those fine people! And then, KILL EVERY LAST ONE OF THEM! Plunge your knife into their throats when they ain't lookin', and then burn 'em to the ground!"
Well that's silly, isn't it?
"Winter is coming" - Stark motto.
Syrio Forel- "What do we say to the god of death?"
Arya Stark- "Not today"
Syrio Forel- "All men are made of water, do you know this? If you pierce them, the water leaks out and they die."

Name: Pedro Ignacio
Appearance:
Image

The wings look like this, only gold. They are roughly the same scale as the other picture:
Image

Allegiance: None.
Personality: Varies. He suffers from a strange mental illness, dubbed "Ignacio's syndrome" which splits his power up, a side effect of attempting to use two artifacts at once. Around 80% of a normal artifact user's powers are taken by the basic personality. 20% is given to each of six other personalities, one for each of Good, Evil, Law, Chaos, Reason and Emotion. (These colours also become the colour of his eyes, although they are rarely visible.

Note that although he can stack power like a boss, if several of his personalities are actively opposed to him, they each reduce his power by 20% (or as much as they have left.) Although he will try using up the power of those he doesn't trust, this can prove to be his downfall.
Brief Bio: Pedro spent most of his life in a tower, in a location which he isn't revealing. When he found not one but two shards of the fabled ruby of Mushussu, he immediately incorporated one into his sword, Gladius Libra. The other, he kept. It was one of the edge pieces of the ruby, and with it he calculated the size of the entire ruby.

There was an orb in the disciple tower, which appeared to be made of solid gold, but lighter, and it felt as though there was no texture to it at all, no friction, nothing. This was the incarnation of their deity, know in the draconic language as Drach'jya'lor'tu. At that time, the orb of Drach'jya'lor'tu had no power whatsoever.

It had existed for some time, as had it's stand, if it even was that. It was a short cylinder, with a hemispherical cup on each end, designed to hold an orb. One end would attach the orb to it, locking it in place. The other side remained inert.

For years, the dragon disciples, the half dragons of the tower, had assumed that this other cup was merely to make the thing stand up. However, that was far from its true function.

Pedro found something disconcerting. The ruby, by his calculations, was exactly the same size as the orb. Asking his commander for permission to borrow the stand for more of his - as of yet pointless - experiments, he took it and found that the ruby shard attached perfectly.

Taking it back, he re-attached the orb, and using its power, he cast aside his former commanders and left the tower, seeking to find all of the ruby, and maybe to find out the true power of the orb of Drach'jya'lor'tu.

There was a reason that the ruby and the orb fit perfectly into the same device. When Mussushu was at the verge of conquest, the god Drach'jya'lor'tu, one of the last survivors of a great war through heavens, hells, purgatories and other godly realms, came down to earth to fight this being. On wings of fire he flew, and for many days the battle raged. Finally, Drach'jya'lor'tu made one final effort, killing himself (kinda) but shattering the crystal.

But gods do not die that easily. Before he fell, he crafted the stand, and when he fell, he did not truly die, but was compacted, and placed in a form of suspended animation. He would use the insane power of the full crystal to free himself.

For a time, Drach'jya'lor'tu thought that no-one would catch on to this, but one day, a young disciple by the name of Pedro Diablo Ignacio, or Fi'ra'gu'ra in draconic, found two shards of the star which Mussushu had used, and Drach'jya'lor'tu had broken. The first he crafted into a sword, and Drach'jya'lor'tu began to lose hope. But when he took the stand, hope was renewed, and with good reason. Soon, Fi'ra'gu'ra started on a mission to regenerate the deity.
Artifact: The sword, Gladius Libra, or Silver-steel, or The bloodthirster, or Lawbringer, or Chaotic touch, Reasoned strike or Faithblade.

Also has the sceptre of Drach'jya'lor'tu.
Artifacts Powers: The sword either makes those hit momentarily forget their aims and purpose, burns anything evil it touches, even if the item or person wouldn't normally burn, gains power as it wounds enemies, prevents any magic from immobilising or slowing Pedro, causes those hit to lose control of part of their body when struck, "tells" Pedro how to fight, or increases Pedro's power the more he wants or needs to win.

The Orb allows him to use some of the hundred powers of Drach'jya'lor'tu, although significantly weaker. Each one is like a "spell" which hits something, holds it in place, or throws it out of the window.

I think that's all. Fun fact: if you type in "Drach'jya'lor'tu", the spelling checker comes up with "Tetrachloride."

Name: Francesca Delasy
Appearance: Tall redhead, blue-green eyes (I'll find a picture later), powerful stance.
Allegiance: The Cult (Also going for cult leader)
Personality: Manipulative and shrewd. Doesn't waste her words. Cunning.
Brief Bio: Italian-British. Grew up split between London and Palermo. Her maternal Grandfather, a Mafia godfather who had great interest in the Artifacts and was a member of the Cult himself. Upon his death at the hands of Protectors, he bequeathed the Gloves of Palermo to Francesca.

She has good stamina but is not extremely strong physically. Francesca can run fast and can handle normal weapons with relative ease. She is wanted for various crimes (murder, kidnapping, extortion) in Italy, the UK and the USA.
Artifact: Gloves of Palermo
Artifacts Powers: Rejection (think Orihime's powers in Bleach). Aura is drawn from the surrounding area and turned into usable objects. Can be used in three ways.

1) Rejection of objects - Cast a shield which deflects blows and other objects. Can protect from explosions in the same way sheltering behind a wall would.

2) Rejection of actions - Envelopes the target in an aura which will reject actions done to the target. This can range from rejection of wounds (for healing ability) to rejection of its creation, rejecting the target object into oblivion. Cannot reject a living target into oblivion.

3) Rejection of space - Fires a blade like projectile which rejects the space either side of it. Cutting the target in half. The blade can be held.

Rejection doesn't work as well in areas with few living creatures to draw aura from (such as open deserts).

There is a protector already. I was also considering being neutral and then being swayed by whoever approached.

Allegiance: The Cult of Mushussu
Personality: In a word, psycho.  Sebastian is completely off his rocker, with a sarcastic, cynical view on life and a sadistic streak a mile wide.
Brief Bio: Sebastian was born to a deeply christian family in the middle of London.  His uncle died when he was 15 and left Sebastian a large box in his will.  Inside was a summary of the story of Mushussu, instructions on how to use Mjölnir and the mighty hammer itself.  He learnt how to use it and was recruited by the cult soon after his 17th birthday.
Artefact: Mjölnir, The Hammer of Thor
