But on a more serious note, I'll make the IC thread for the Anglo-Scanian/Irish conflict either later tonight or tomorrow. Because it'd be dull posting by myself, I'd encourage someone to RP as the Irish Free State, or post a few things there too. (Don't go all charging in there, though, declaring war left, right and center).

Also; I noticed before people were on about agriculture, rubber, and the like. Thai Agricultural process is huge as hell to feed our population, so I'm sure some export is there. Those Midwest states are also world breadbasket, same with Russia and China. I also think the Rio de la Plata is an epic Agricultural Center (IIRC, Argentine was set to be a World Power in the 1900s due to it's export of Beef)

Funny story - I was a nation (Brazil) that had conquered most of South America in a WW1 Roleplay and I had off-handly mentioned that I will assume the Argentine and Chile Claims on Antarctica, and a huge Scramble for Antarctica occurred between the major powers, namely Portugal, Germany, and Sweden. Germany even had tried to colonize parts of it with settlers. Was hilarious.

Yes but it would have been mostly for Cultural or Religious purposes. Not only that, you wouldn't have the facilities or population base to be able to create it on the large-scale, you've already alienated the West, don't know how you plan to trade it with anything...

Guys, he has a reasonable backstory with an explanation for these things, and it's not really that outside of the realm of possibility. I'd say go for it.

As a suggestion, it might be nice to expand your links with Europe by having a European nation send a geological expedition. This would satisfy people, provide a boost to your technological know-how, and give an iron-clad reason for having oil earlier than IRL.

Why does everyone have such a problem with the possibility of an African nation not falling prey to the circumstances it did IRL, and being able to rival Western powers. This IS an AWRP isn't it?
