So, how many people are still checking this...? It seems to have gone really dead, really fast.
Could those people just make a check-in post here so I know that people are still around (besides Altito), or at least know if they're just busy or aren't interested in this anymore?

The Spitfire, with the Hurricane coming a close second. Without these two aircraft the war may have ended very differently.

Spitfire. The craft may not have been the best in technical terms, but it was the key of the air war, definitely it deserves the medal.

Focke-Wulf Fw-190.

Superior to the British aircraft flown at the time in all but turning radius. A clear winner, IMO.

P-47 Thunderbolt

Thing was rugged as hell and could give more than it's fair share of beatings in return. You fly that thing to hell and back and it would still hold together. That's why the A-10 is named the Thunderbolt II, because it's just as tough.

I'm pretty sure it couldn't fly as high or go as fast as the Spitfire.
