That's almost as kickass as my space encyclopedia.

But why is it over Europe, when the original was in the Pacific? And what program did they use to make it?

Those are terrible bomber pilots. They're bad and they should feel bad. Also, the mark continuity is all over the place.

I've barely slept in three days and this upsets me more than it should.

Indeed.

I'm sure we will.
Like I said a while back, I've given up trying to plan stuff out far in advance, but occasionally I'll get an idea and I'll scribble it in, and the more I think about it, the more stuff falls into place. I've got our 1941 pretty much all planned out, for instance with some pretty choice destinations for us.

Same. And I'd rather play it with like a joystick or something (which I don't have) than a keyboard (which never really seems to lend itself to intuitive flight controls, in my experience).

...EB-17?

escort bomber, technically known as the YB-40, basically a B-17 with a second dorsal turret place of the radio operators spot and twin .50 mounts at the waist gun position. it was a failure as a bomber escort but could possibly work as a CAS plane similar to the original AC-47's in Vietnam.

You know, it occurs to me that you've utterly failed when you make something that's supposed to help protect your bombers, only for it to be heavier, and have objectively worse performance than the bombers themselves.

Though it does sound like a good CAS gunship, in theory.

Oh right. YB-40's I've heard of. The conditions in WWII are completely wrong for it to be used as a ground support aircraft. To use lumbering gunships, such as the AC-47, AC-119 or AC-130 you need absolute air superiority and little chance of effective flak, because those things are rock steady targets that fly in predictable patterns. If you try to use them in anything but optimum conditions, you're simply going to lose them.

Considering that it's not technically called a YB-40, in so far as it is actually called a YB-40, why did you make up a name for it?

It was a tragic day when the announcer at the officer school read off cutlers name wrong.
The rest of the graduating class keeled over in laughter, the men that he was to lead pointed and laughed. Even the king smirked when he found out. Word traveled throughout the commonwealth, from the UK to Canada to new Zealand and australia. Tears of joy streamed down the faces of the countless millions under the crown.

And he shall forever be known as "Cuntler."

Also, "Balks hard hitting questions" will be a thing.

RAF did use B-17s, though admittedly for the plane's original role of a maritime patrol aircraft.

Ugh, why is there such a lack of info on the organisation of RAF Regiment units during WW2?

Best I could find was for a field squadron; seven officers and 178 airmen grouped in three rifle flights, a support weapons flight and an armoured car flight from October 1942.

That was from The RAF Regiment at War 1942-1946 by Kingsley M. Oliver, most probably THE RAF Regiment historian (he also served with the Regt and his other book on 'em can be downloaded for free).

Though the rifle flights were at least based in part on an Army infantry platoon, with perhaps adaptation for the RAF ranks and structure (ie, no Lance Corporals).

So that's pretty much the only feasible source, outside of some dusty old regimental museum in Britain or something?

Pretty much, RAF Regiment during WW2 doesn't seem to interest that many historians for some reason.

I hazard a guess that a rifle flight was probably along the lines of something like this;

Rifle Flight HQ Section

Flight Commander - Officer
Flight Sergeant - Sergeant
Batman/Signaller - Aircraftman (A/C)
Orderly - A/C
Mortar Commander - Corporal
Mortar Number 1 - A/C
Mortar Number 2 - A/C

3x Rifle Sections

Section Commander - Corporal
Rifleman (6) - A/C
Second-In-Command - Leading A/C
Bren Number 1 - A/C
Bren Number 2 - A/C

I'll do some more digging, but I think I know couple of places where I can ask.
