Sure...I'd expect they'd know something about the people they're up against.
Maybe I'll work in a spy storyline later, to deal with our leaks.I already have some ideas floating around for that.

I quite agree. The only problem with that is it's relatively limited. The airborne divisions (a la Band of Brothers) didn't get deployed that much, and I fear we would just be retreading the TV show. Same goes for The Pacific, although the Marines did see combat much more consistently.
Not to take away from the basic idea - it would be awesome, I'd just need to find a way to work it to be interesting and kinda new.
If I was the one to start it, of course...

I thought that too. But there were a lot of battles the Marines saw in the Pacific. Worst case, we could add a bit of the Call of Duty Zombies, and use the Japanese Unit 731 as the basis to add a bit of intrigue into it..

True that. It's not so much a technological thing, so much as the war just hasn't progressed to a point where it makes sense.
Maybe the next one or the next-next one would make a more logical point for it.
