Nah, everything that happens has to happen.

In some ways, I imagine, Earl's current state of existence would be much worse than Hell.

Come to think of it, perhaps it is AWB's equivalent to Hell. I don't think Night nor I could ever truly say.

Well, Earl is capable of thought (he is thought). He should communicate with the new dragon.

The Risen

Postby Nationstatelandsville » Sun Oct 07, 2012 11:40 am

The Risen - terrible beasts. Avoid them at all costs. If you ever encounter one, do not bother making amends with your god. He has already abandoned you.

The Risen are unlike any other living creature, in that they are exactly opposite of that. They're dead, killed violently, typically, but not going anywhere. Death is very mysterious, even to the supernatural - the afterlife is beyond understanding, though most agree that it either exists or enough people think it does that it may as well. The Risen have not quite themselves seen beyond the veil, simply seeing the veil itself - they died, but were not allowed to be dead. Instead, some force whisked them away from their ultimate fate and returned them back to the living world, often kicking and screaming. This is the main component of the Risen; a severed soul that death, for some reason, spat back out. They are usually created through necromancy, though some theorize there are other, natural, perhaps even divine, means of returning to Earth. It should be noted that necromancy is an unstable and dangerous art which often expands death's power, rather than defying it, and thus, the Risen are indeed rare creatures.

This is merely the first part of two - a soul is nothing without a body. The displaced soul can be returned to its original form, but again, most souls chosen for Rising faced destructive deaths, so this is often impossible. If it is not feasible, various other methods have been devised for providing the physical form to the metaphysical; the most popular, by far, is the Shelley Method. For those of you unable to make the connection, many corpses are dug up from local graveyards and hacked into pieces, pooling a variety of bodies to create a replica of the original body, or as close as they can get. This technique is difficult and takes much time, but if done correctly, allows for the soul bonded to this form to adjust to its new life much more quickly and allows for "customization" of their new vessels, one could say.

The Risen are not simple zombies - they often arise with new and strange powers. These powers vary widely, depending on the source of the resurrection. Perhaps most inexplicable are the aforementioned "natural" Risen, those whose rebirth cannot be traced to any form of earthly magic. Their powers are the most powerful and most bizarre amongst the undead, often involving fire and illusion, amongst other things. These natural Risen are often born with some purpose, as if serving an otherworldly force; many believe them to be the agents of some god. Many others refuse to acknowledge they even exist.

They, of course, do, and are pure evil.

Ameri, your powers -

Earl is now about eight feet tall, as well preternaturally strong, agile, and fast. He could take Catrin in a fight easily, likely a tank as well, and could match a top Olympic runner in speed. He is exceptionally difficult to kill, given that he is already dead. There are, in fact, only two ways to kill him; either by destroying the "heart" talisman the Sons planted in him, or by leaving nothing of his new body for his soul to return to after "dying". If he is fatally wounded by human standards, his soul will temporarily leave his body, before returning a moment or two later. These deaths will cause short bouts of incredible power, turning him into a miniature Juggernaut for a few minutes after returning to his body. His new vessel also has an amazing healing factor, though removing the stitching would still cause him to fall apart. Try not to do that.

Choose one -

Dragonfire - Earl can conjure up a fireball the size of his new body, one capable of burning through just about everything. However, it takes a considerable amount of energy, leaving him especially drained. It takes about half-an-hour to recharge.

Awe - The old fallback. You know what it is.

Smoke and Mirrors - The ability to create and sustain an illusion of a single object or person for five minutes. They can't move or really do much without fading or falling apart, but they are insanely realistic when stationary. May even be used to disguise oneself if you're particularly clever.

Counsel of Death - The ability to raise the freshly dead (a day at the most) and sustain them in life for about thirty minutes. This can be done for interrogation or simply creating some cannon fodder. They will often experience amnesia concerning large swathes of their life, as well as severe hindrance of mental capacity. It is possible to raise three at a time, but is extremely draining and would definitely cause Earl to pass out. Instead, it is easier to summon one at a time. Once a body has had the spell performed on them once, it cannot be used on them again, or very bad things will happen to the soul and the summoner. Scary things.

Close enough for me.

Also, should we head to the Stratosphere Hotel, or are we already there?

We're currently in a sewer.

I'm going to start updating every three days again, if possible. Bear that in mind, all. If not, we could be here for a while.

An agency of werewolves and vampires.

Where the only vampire was actually some guy that dropped off in a week or so. And the werewolves got either cured or abandoned it.
Of course, this is only if you count the Sixth Brigade.
