The Tyranids don't just eat biological matter.

They eat anything made of minerals.

Including Necrons. Necrons just aren't their first choice.

Just a question for your logic then.... why don't the 'Nids eat the entirety of the worlds they assault? I always found that curious if they eat minerals.

They strip anything that can be used. From what Necron Fluff I've read, all that's left of a planet after the Tyranids are done with it is the rock it is made of.

Hmm still, beneath the surface of most planets is where their most valuable minerals are... things like metal and whatnot that I imagine exist in Tyranid bioweapons in at least trace amounts. It just seems interesting that the swarms consume everything on the surface, metals and what have you, and leave valuable deeper deposits untouched. In my opinion when the Tyranids devour things like buildings and tanks its more a case of the ripper swarms not being smart enough to distinguish the useful from the not-so-useful.

Regardless, the question is academic in all honesty. Our forces will eventually clash, I'd just be suprised to see the Tyranid's being terribly effective against Necrons in general. The IG and Orkz are more their preferred meals. Since they have like, DNA and biomass, versus the Necrons, which frankly don't.

Eh, Tyranids aren't terribly effective against anything in small numbers. However, they're incredibly effective in massive numbers, which they usually are. The key to defeating on a planet is to destroy their tombs. The Necrons need something to warp to, and if the place they warp to is reduced to ashes, I believe their warp ability is either negated or they have to warp to another tomb off planet.

I don't think the reactive properties of necrodermis have every been established in canon.. who knows! That said, the idea that all metals are magnetically attractive is patently false. Idk haha, I doubt anyone has a big enough magnet just lying around..
