Elder Scrolls: The Great War (OOC/Signup) - Open)

Postby Wolfmanne » Sat May 19, 2012 9:21 am

IC

Years before the events of the Dragon Crisis and year after the Oblivion Crisis, there was one great test to Tamriel. Unlike Dragon and Oblivion Crises, there were never any individual heroes who brought end to both of them. There was no Hero of Kvatch or Dragonborn to save Tamriel. As a fact, most of the heroes during this event actually failed their objective. That objective was to keep a crumbling Empire secure from Thalmor invaders. For decades, the Thalmor faction had been gaining ground in Summerset Isle. At the end of the Oblivion Crisis they took control of Summerset Isle, Alinor, an ancient name which was used by the people of Tamriel before man ascended over mer. 7 years later, in 4E 29, the Thalmor political factions in Valenwood seized control. Imperial factions and their supporters seeked exile in the Empire. With this new found success, the Thalmor renamed themselves the Aldmeri Dominion, consisting of a unified Alinor and Valenwood, although politically lead by the Altmer. For the next seventy years, the Aldmeri isolated themselves, which would have great consequences for the rest of Tamriel, who would not be able to keep up with the technological advances of the Altmer.

In 4E 98, the two moons, Masser and Secunda vanished. Within most of the Empire, this was viewed with trepidation and fear. In Elsweyr it was far worse. Culturally the moons are much more influential to the Khajiit. After two years of the Void Nights, the moons returned. The Thalmor announced that they had restored the moons using previously unknown Dawn Magicks, but it is unclear if they truly restored the moons or just took advantage of foreknowledge that they would return. The Imperials soon lost all political influence and 15 years later, the pro-Imperial Elsweyr Confederacy was couped, with the ancient kingdoms of Anequina and Pelletine being restored as client kingdoms of the Dominion. Dominion territory now bordered Cyrodiil itself. Seventy years after the two moons disappeared, Emperor Titus Medes II ascended to the throne of a chaotic Empire; the lost of Black Marsh, Valenwood and Elsweyr had decreased the borders of the Empire. Morrowind had been devastated by the Red Mountain eruption and the Argonian invasion. Hammerfell was in a state of political uncertainty between the Crowns and Forebears.

On the 30th of Frostfall, 4E 171, three years into Emperor Medes II reign, the Aldmeri Dominion sent an emissary with a list of demands, including the banning of Talos worship, the disbandment of the Blades, the cession of Southern Hammerfell and number of tributes to be paid to the Dominion; in return, a cart with a 'gift' was to be given to the Emperor. Medes rejected this; the cart was overturned by the Aldmeri, revealing the heads of 100 Blades agents based in Summerset Isle, Valenwood and Elsweyr. The Dominion issued a declaration of war and the Empire responded with their own, despite Medes' Generals warning him about the Empire's military weakness. And so begins the Great War. You are an Imperial or Thalmor soldier; you may have your families, your future, your life. You are not a hero who has a destiny to defeat this great evil. Your rank, name and number is the only marker of your influence.

OOC Information
Presuming that you've played the Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, you may be aware of the Great War. If you haven't gotten that far in the game, or you don't have it, this is basically an event between Oblivion and Skyrim. The Great War will still result in the White-Gold Concordant; however, characters still have the chance to influence the events of the Great War. The Empire are fighting a near impossible war, so defeat seems inevitable. The Thalmor have their own problems; no one except those at the top know the true reasons for going to war. The war is supported by about 60% of the Altmer population, although only 40% of the Bosmer population in the Dominion support it, while Khajiit support is as low as 20%, since their trading caravans are going to be badly affected.

Both sides have varying armies; the Thalmor primarily rely on a disciplined force of lightly armoured soldiers, armed with swords, supplemented by archers. Nearly all of them are skilled in magic to a degree; Thalmor Wizards choose to specialise in magic and there is usually a wizard to support a group of soldiers, compared to the Empire, who have relatively few Battlemages. Despite being lightly armoured, they have the advantage of Elven smithery versus the Steel used by the majority of Legionnaires and pro-Imperials. The Thalmor also have an advantage in numbers. The Thalmor are also supplemented by Dominion Beast Auxiliary, which consists of Khajiit and Argonians who aren't allowed to join the Thalmor for racial reasons. They are expert scouts and skirmishers, however they are few in number.

The Imperial Legion is just as disciplined as the Thalmor, however they have the advantage of diversity. In their ranks, they do not just have Imperials but also Bretons, Nords, Redguards, Bosmer (who are descendants of the pro-Imperial Bosmer who fled Valenwood after the Thalmor coup), Dumner and Orcs. The Imperial Legion is therefore able to apply each race's skill to their military; traditionally, Nords, Redguards and Orcs would serve as the heavily armoured warrior core of the military, while Imperials, Bosmer and Dumner would serve as light armoured Skirmishers and Bretons as the few Battlemages the Imperial Legion has. However this isn't always the case. Their weakness is their lack of magic proficiency amongst the rank and file members, who rely on cold steel and arrows to do damage, although the Orcs do have pretty good quality armour. Despite their numbers, they lack any effective numbers to be able to defeat their enemies.

You don't have to be an Imperial Legionnaire or a Thalmor Wizard - you can do have the freedom in choosing. You can be an Arognian thief, a Khajiit trader, a Redguard warrior trying to defend his land from Thalmor invaders. You are allowed to be a member of an elite group like the Blades (a subplot will revolve around the Blades and their persecution by the Thalmor, along with their eventual replacement by the Penitus Oculatus). Just don't expect to have your character be the Grand Master of the Blades if you make poorly structured one-liners which have poor grammar and spelling.

And the app... (please give me feedback and suggested improvements)

NS Name:
Character Name:
Age:
Race:
Faction(s):

Rank: (if applicable)
Weapons:
Armour:
Biography:
RP Example:
(if you make a decent biography, you're allowed to use that as your example))

Guidelines for your app

1. The Thalmor will consist only of Altmer, Dumner, Bosmer, Khajiit and Argonians, the latter two only in the Dominion Beast Auxiliary. The Imperial Legion is open to all races, including Altmer, Bosmer and Khajiit, since members of the Legion with these races would be descendents of pro-Imperial exiles who fled their homelands during the Thalmor coups.
2. Although I say that many Nords are heavy infantry and many Bosmer are lightly armoured, this isn't always the case; you can have a Nord archer or a Bosmer warrior if you wished.
3. Don't make your rank excessively high. I'll allow Grand Masters, Princes, Legates, Headmasters, Generals or whatever but don't put yourself down as Emperor, Dragonborn or Deity. The higher the rank, the more effort you have to put into your posts and into your app.
4. I'll make a ranking system for both the Imperial Legion, the Thalmor, the Blades and any other faction that you request (or you can do it yourself, although I'll need to approve it.

Rules

1. Please don't Godmod.
2. Please respect other RPers.
3. Please be mature.
4. And finally, enjoy yourself!

NS Name: Lancearc
Character Name: Jo'Rak
Age: 19
Race: Khajiit
Faction(s): Imperial Legion, Tenth Legion
Rank: Quaestor, Scout
Weapons: A steel bow from which he fires silver arrows, simply because they are common among the Legion
Armour: Typically the Imperial light armor, although he sometimes wears a chainmail cuirass of his own.
Biography: Growing up as a boy in his native lands of Elsweyr, Jo'Rak saw the effects of the disappearances of the moons first hand. Most religious folks among his own town--most of the population, in fact--fell into a state of madness, due to the moons' importance to their religion. Some had even claimed that Secunda herself had been killed. Jo'Rak's parents were so fearful that they packed up and moved to Cyrodiil an settled down in Leyawiin, just to get away from the madness. They already had relatives living in the Imperial Province, and had 3 generations service in the Imperial Legion. Here, Jo'Rak was exposed to a great feeling of pride that came from serving in the Legion, and once he was old enough to, he joined up. Of course, due to the Khajiit's superior agility and keen night vision they made him, along with many other Khajiit recruits, scouts. Although morale is low and support for the war back home is dropping rapidly, Jo'Rak still feels pride in serving, even if some now viewed the Empire as corrupt and twisted.

NS Name: Avorez
Character Name: Maximus
Age: 25
Race: Imperial
Faction(s): Imperial, Imperial Guerillas (Umbras)
Rank: Captain of the Umbras
Weapons:
    *Mithril short sword
    *Steel Bow and Arrows
Armour: Leather Armour with the Imperial Seal engraved upon the front of the front of the chest piece
Biography: Maximus was born in the western portion of Cyrodill, where he learned to survive off of the land and hide amongst the forests that surrounded Skingrad and the farmstead he grew up at. As he grew older, he distanced himself from that area, he being a fifth son he was guaranteed nothing in return for his many years of labor on the farmstead which would go to his older brother Horatius. He signed up with the legion for a five year tour of which he exited from at the age of twenty-three.

During his time in the Legion, Maximus served as a lightly armored Ranger. He and his regiment moved from area to area crushing bandits, marauders, and separatists alike. There he learned how to better use his hunting skills and natural leadership ability, eventually becoming a Decanus of a squad, he also learned how to fight effectively in close quarters with blades as well as his fists. During this time, Maximus observed the fighting styles of those such as the remnants of the Renjira Krin, isolated bandit rings, and the smaller marauder fieflings, learning how to better fight a force that was larger than his, using guerrilla tactics. His higher ups allowed him to form his own company, forming the 1st Shadow Rangers corps. and promoting Maximus to Centurion.

He, and his company, all left within a relatively short time span, so they all came together to form their own self-sufficient village named Shadowsong. He, and his comrades lived in relative peace for two years after they left, even attracting many new-comers due to the relative safety from bandits and marauders. However, after about a year Maximus and his comrades noticed that the Aldmeri Dominion was getting frisky, so he began to train the new-comers in his brand of guerrilla warfare (dubbed 'Shadow Warfare').

Just before the Great War broke out, Maximus and his troops launched guerrilla raids upon small Aldmeri Dominion outposts in Elsweyr, gaing the support of other villages on the Cyrodill side as well as some on the Elsweyr side. Soon, members of all the races joined up with his unit. Now from a force that was originally fifty to a force of nearly one hundred and fifty, Maximus launches ever-growing attacks upon the Aldmeri Dominion where he can, as well as getting the bandits and marauders to fight alongside him in order to stick out for longer against the elves.

Just as a note, this is the start of the Thalmor invasions, so you may need to correct that. His age seems a bit young in my view, I'd say late thirties at the least but it isn't really much of a big deal. Otherwise, glad to have another good RPer on board.

Guess I need to do my app....
NS Name: Wolfmanne
Character Name: Hasdrubal Antonius
Age: 53
Race: Imperial
Faction(s): Blades, Imperial
Rank: Marshall of the Blades in Cyrodiil
Weapons:Blades Sword
Armour: Blades Armor
Biography: Antonius' youthful life wasn't really anything of note, except that he was born in the Imperial City. For long he dreamed of joining the Imperial Legion and as soon as he was 18, he left as soon as possible and signed up at the nearest recruiting station. He didn't really distinguish himself apart from the other recruits but still passed out and was assigned to the Fourth Legion as a Skirmisher. His rise through the ranks was quick in comparison to many others; during the field of battle, he was able to keep hold himself, compared to those who passed out higher than him, who were only the best when no one was shooting at them. As a result of this, promotion actually came quickly for him and at 33, he was a Legate.

His skill in battle caught eye of the Blades, who wished to recruit him. He happily accepted, hearing of the legends of the Blades through the books he read when he was young. Antonius was greatly intrigued by the Dragons, often devoting a lot of his time to the study of them. However he worked to be a decent agent of the Blades, often using the cover of a Merchant, since his parents were Merchants themselves. However he continued to study, wishing to know more. However soon he had very little time for that; instead, he concerned himself with enemy activity within the areas he was stationed at, feeding in information to the Blades, who would then send it back to the Emperor, despite the Penitus Oculatus taking over most of the roles and responsibilities of the Blades. Several times he was stationed in Valanwood and his last assignment was when he was 45. He was recalled back to the Imperial City however.

Most recently, he was received one of the highest honours for the Blades; Marshall of the Blades in Cyrodiil. However this is a sign that age is catching up to him, despite the fact he looks like he's in his late thirties. It is almost as a high as Grand Master and essentially it means he holds command over the Blades in Cyrodiil. With the threat of a Thalmor invasion, he is calling together most of the agents of the Blades in Cyrodiil to the Cloud Ruler Temple, where they shall march along side their Legionnaire brothers into battle. Although he can still wield a sword and shield, he isn't the master swordsman he was years ago. He knows that his time is soon ending and that the Great War is the swan song for the Blades and for the Empire. He knows that all he can do is buy time.

NS Name: The Magocracy Of New Endenia
Character Name: Enelya
Age: 39
Race: Altmer
Faction(s): Aldmeri Dominion
Rank: Thalmor Commander Of The Dominion Warlock Corps
Weapons: Staff, Aldmeri Sword
Armour: Aldmeri Wizards Robe
Biography: Born near the capital of Alinor, into a highborn family of Thalmor nobles. Enelya from young displayed a talent for the arcane arts and a sadistic, evil and ambitious streak that her family attempted to keep under wraps from the rest of Alinor society. Eventually she learnt that her family was never going to let her be free to choose her destiny if she kept displaying her evil tendencies, the killing of innocent animals to study their insides and to see them suffer had to stop. Overnight she changed her personality, becoming a sweet, attentive daughter to her family. Her father, relieved to see that his daughter's dark desires seem to only be a phase in a child's development. Granting his daughter's request, he used his influence to allow his daughter to join the Alinor Magic Academy.

There she mastered the arcane arts under the tutelage of the Arch-Mage Darmai, eventually rising to become of the members of the Alinor Magic Council. She eventually grew bored of the the council and the stuffy old crones there, desiring the adventures and battles of the stories she read while passing the time away in her family's estate. Hearing the rumors and talk that the Dominion was marshaling its forces to prepare for an eventual war with the Imperium, she resigned from the Magic Council and joined the armies of the Dominion. Initially placed under the Dominion Warlock Corps, she proved her abilities in both arcane combat and swordplay to eventually rise to a command level rank within the Corps. Partly due to her highborn status, the Dominion Command took notice of the upstart young Commander, observing her innovative tactics and strategies used in Dominion wargames and the respect that she gathered from the Warlock Corps (A Corp that was predominately male).

She was summoned before Dominion Command, elevated to be the Head of the Dominion Warlocks Corps and was given the task of preparing the Warlock Corps for the eventual invasion of the Imperium. The only thing that was opposing her was her family, her father opposed the Dominion's expansionistic policies and while proud of his daughter's stellar rise to the top of the ranks of the Dominion Command, strongly opposed her on the topic of sending Thalmor lives to die for the aggressive desires of the Dominion. It was then she finally decided that her family had served their purpose and had to be taken out. She returned back to her family estate on the outskirts of Alinor and proceeded to wield the arcane magics against her own family, raining down fireballs onto the estate, summoning blades made of arcane power and launching them at the guards who tried in vain to stop her, she carved a path of death and destruction towards the family Manor. She butchered and slaughtered her siblings, her mother and finally her father, telling him that she harbored no love for a family who were traitors to the Dominion. Her final act of destruction leveled half of the ancient ancestral home of her family, leaving a ruined estate behind.

There she sat, on a throne made out of the wreckage, contemplating her next move. The invasion of the Imperium was about to begin and she has much to do, the Alinor Magic Council was next.

OOC: Just some notes, i'm not sure what is the equivalent of the Imperium Mages Guild in the Dominion so I made it up as the Dominion Warlock Corps and the Alinor Magic Academy, if anyone can correct me on that I'll edit it.

And yea, essentially I'm trying to make some kind of villain for everyone to hate. I don't mind playing the villain for the RP.

EDIT: Just fixed race. Realised that I wrote Thalmor instead of Altmer.

We all need villains and i'm going to ensure my character (if approved) will be incredibly sadistic and evil.

Just don't cut off/step on my tail and we won't have a big problem >:(

Well, besides being on opposing armies and needing to kill each other if we ever meet, which seems unlikely.

Approved. Glad that we actually have some Thalmor.

Thinking putting the IC up earlier so you don't lose interest. What do you think lads?

Well, we've got enough characters to establish a fairly close-knit story line now, so that's not a bad idea.

Yeah I'm good. I can help roleplay the invasion since my character is one of the generals/commanders of the Invasion Force. And she's itching to begin genocide.

Wait for me! Ok, I did this via iPod, so the biography may be a tad rushed. I'll hopefully fine tune it when I can.
NS name: North Banrodesia
Character Name: Isratial
Age: 25
Race: Aldmer
Faction(s): He Was part of the Synod and operated mainly in Cheydinhal before the legion spotted his prowess with a Sword and Spell and recruited him as one of the Cheydinhal Battlemages, a group of select spellswords from the town. The same with all other towns from Cyrodiil, lead by the Leader of the Synod.
Rank: First Adjunct in the Synod, Commanding officer of Cheydinhal's Battlemages in the sixth legion.
Weapons: A Silver Axe that his Great Grandfather wielded whilst fighting the daedra in Kvatch, a Malachite Dagger embedded with a soul-trapping energy and of course, his Masterful knowledge of Destruction magic.
Armour: Malachite Armour and a Crimson hood.
Biography: Isratial was born into a rich Aldmer family in Eagle brook, High rock. He was always the weaker child in the town compared to all the burly Breton kids who could climb the huge oak tree outside the Walls and steal change of elderly women. Isratial was desperate to keep up, but with little success, so he decided to attempt practising the Arcane Arts. At the age of sixteen, he purchased a book teaching him on how to raise a skeleton. He tried for months and months to make the spell work, but it unfortunately didn't, until one day when his Breton friends decided to go and tease the goblins at the mine nearby. The high elf was reluctant and fretful on the journey, and there was no reason why he shouldn't have been, as when they arrived at the mine, a ignorant Breton stepped in a bear trap and goblins began closing in all around to claim their kill. With all his might, Isratial summoned a skeleton from Oblivion and used it to scare off the goblins and save the poor boys life. Over the next two months, he was more than thirty spells wiser, and he could hit a moving target from fifty feet with a fireball. This lead to his induction into the Synod where he quickly became well-known as the fasted-learning Mage since Hannibal Traven in the original mages guild.

Heh. I know that guy with the axe.

That one useless Altmer.

"If we make it through this, I'll be amazed!"
