The second punch however was better, meaning he was learning to adjust and quickly, a good sign, and when he finally ducked he swung the padded hand overhead at a decent speed, cutting it close to his head so he could hear the rustling of the air moving around the pad and the displacement against his skin and hair.
"Alright stand back up Jay."
When the tall lanky young man did he patted him on the shoulder, hopefully as a sign of encouragement.
"That's what I want you to work on, getting the feel for distances and listening for that sort of movement. It's only day one so there's plenty of time to work on it....but since you'll need to observe what else I'm doing..."
Burton gently pulled back on the weighted vests' collar to look at the identification number.
"I'll disable it for demonstrations. Other than that, you learn how to fight 'blind'. Funnily enough that probably will make you more effective than some people with their sight."
Burton turned to address Sakura and Bramwell.
"Sakura, Bramwell, I hope you two were paying attention, because one of you will be working with him on this."
Before leaving Burton put a hand on Jays back and spoke softly for only him to hear.
"If you ever want to work on anything in this class and need help, shoot me an email, I'll help you when I can. You can do this."
Moving along Burton sidled between different groups, querying few techniques and making sure a few "millers" actually practiced something rather than stood around.
It didn't take long however to spy the odd person out. In this case it was Caitlin who seemed to be milling around at the edges, waiting for direction.

"The restroom. So, want to spar?" Gregorio asked. Shade nodded with a rather twisted smile and a mad glint in his eyes, which worries Gregorio even more. While Gregorio use multiple forms of martial arts, dancing and performing arts like ballet, tango and acrobatics, Shade simply fight dirty, using anything nearby. The mad look in Shade's eyes became even more noticeable as the scelera goes black.

Zarkenis Ultima wrote:Sarah had arrived early to Burton's class, with only a peculiar habit of waking up early to thank for it. She had been listening to Burton's instructions and watching the demonstrations carefully. This had not been the first self-defense class she had attended to, as the previous year in the Academy there had been another self-defense instructor, though his temper was infinitely worse than Burton's, as far as she could remember.
When they were told to team up in order to practice a bit, Sarah went to one of the training dummies and began performing some of the techniques she had learned the previous year. She was by no means a fearsome combatant, but she was at least a decently skilled one. The vests made things slightly more difficult, though, not because the lack of power disoriented her, but the weight did, if only slightly.
After a while, she looked around and noticed that Jay had been left without a practice partner. She walked up to him and tapped him on the shoulder. "It looks like Bramwell's busy. Do you want me to help?" She said, taking the punching pads.
Raymond, on the other hand, arrived just in time only because of a loud alarm and a physical condition that allowed him to run pretty fast. Thankfully, he arrived just before Burton initiated the demonstrations. Though panting, he paid attention to them, thinking that it wouldn't hurt to learn some more refined techniques.
Once the students were instructed to practice, Raymond walked over to the back of the room and took one of the vests, putting it on. The supression of his power didn't disorient him as it seemed to do with many other people. He had never relied on his powers too much, which explained why they were somewhat weak compared to others' at least thus far. However, it did give him a familiar feeling. He didn't like it, for reasons unrelated to his powers, but he could deal with it, and could handle the vest far better than some of his classmates.
After standing by idly for a while and thinking about these things, Raymond snapped back to reality, not wanting Burton to scold him or anything, and went to look for a partner to practice with. The first person he bumped into was a girl that seemed to be always bored and for some reason was hyper now. He almost didn't recognize her and didn't understand what was going on with her, but he figured he might as well try.
"Want to practice together?" He asked her.

When he calmed down and asked her whether or not she had seen what Burton and Bramwell were doing with him, she nodded. "Yes, I saw how they helped you practice." She said, putting on the punching pads. "Ready?" She asked, standing more or less on the same spot Bramwell had stood on before in order not to mess up Jay's sense of distance. "I'm ready." She said once she was in the right position, both to tell him that he could start, and to let her voice tell him where she was standing in case he didn't notice.
When Charlotte agreed to be his partner, Raymond felt relieved that he didn't need to look for a partner for long. When she asked whether they would be using the punching pads or the dummies, Raymond shrugged. "Either is fine, though I think the pads are probably more convenient. Do you want to hit first? I don't mind, but I want my turn." He said in response to her, and then waited for her answer.

Once it seemed like Burton had 'Antonio' under control, and the danger of the gym being turned into an multi-dimensional battlefield was no longer immediately present, I relaxed and went to look for my partner again. Only to find, however, that he had joined another group in my absence. Can't say I really blamed him, although it now put me in the uncomfortable position of having nobody to practice with. Quickly scanning the class, I saw nobody that else was in the same boat as I... except for... yes, it looked like, Chram (was that her name? I couldn't fully recall) was down a partner as well. I wasted no time, grabbing a pair of sparring pads and walking over towards her. I seemed to recall the Chram lived in the villain dorm, but for the life of me, couldn't recall her doing anything overtly (or covertly) nasty. Of course, it could simply be that she was biding her time.
"Chram, you need a partner?" I asked her, when I was close enough for her to hear me, without my shouting.

"See you later" She said to Tara. For now, she just got some punching pads for their fighting, and just waited for Sakura to get back for the time being. To what Sean said, she said, "I'm just waiting for Sakura to get back..", but there was a chance that being her, she said it too quiet for him to hear.
Caitlin
Caitlin nodded to him. "Same here. But overcrowding is sometimes worse then helping. And he's getting plenty of help, and if I joined, I'd probably just overcrowd them and get in the way at this point" She said to Will, and let out a sigh at the whole thing. Poor Antonio seemed to have a lot of weird problems, and she felt bad for him. Hopefully one day things would get better for him.
"Hey, it's okay. We can go over with...Declan was his name I think? Too many names to remember. Anyway, we can go over there, even if it's just to talk to him while we practice. I've noticed he's seemed alone a lot, and he probably needs company" She told Will in response to what he said. She gave Will a nod, and started to walk over to where Declan is.
"We can all take turns with the dummy and punching pads for practice. What you guys think?" Caitlin asked both Declan and Will. She wanted to get them both involved. It gave them a chance to all socialize and practice at the same time. She was definitely interested in practicing, but socializing was definitely a plus for her right now too. Honestly, she was disappointed with herself and the lack of socializing since she got here, so this was a good opportunity for at least SOME socializing.
To Sean, she just gave him a nod of understanding, pretty much trying to indicate that they were about ready to start their own fighting, if Declan and Will accepted her idea's.

Chram turned around with a start obviously not expecting anyone to actually ask her. Or at least so soon. As soon as she paused, biting her finger for a second before nodding to Tara, "Tara... I'd be fine with it if you're fine with me."
Chram was a little bit on edge but Tara was a nice enough girl, she seemed to have a mild prejudice against mechanical life forms but Chram was no different with the thoughts on the majority of biological life. She patted her cheeks and took a deep breath, Chram's normal demeanor coming back, "Would you like to hit first or shall I?"

Holding the pads out, my elbows bent slightly.
"So," I said, as Chram prepared herself, "What's up with you, that Will kid, and the teacher over there?" I thought I'd seen the kid called Will harassing Chram before the class started, and the teacher intervening in a somewhat familiar manner on Chram's behalf. Which was extremely odd, as I thought I'd recalled seeing Will around in the hero dorms. Or maybe outside the Vigilante's. Either way, a strange reversal of roles there, a non-villain going after a villain. Though, I chided myself, I'd gone after the vampire when I'd seen him. Certainly there was some context I was missing, in Chram's interaction with Will, however.
