___In the gymnasium, with its faux-wood floors that had mats placed upon them, was a person who would not get to participate in the activities. Makoto rested in a wheel-chair with some amount of distance between the wheel-chair and the activities. Though she tried to pay attention, she was simply not in a state of mind that helped. She did not like the exclusion created by the temporary disorder she procured. With not much else, she listened to a rendition of "Moonlight Sonata" as she watched and listened. It was times like this where she deeply regretted circumstances created by the disorder, which prevent her from taking part in what would be of interest to Makoto. She would occasionally lose the attention to the class, and would drift off in thought, occasionally resulting in small objects floating. As she stared with thought not a priority, she noticed something that warranted her attention. Erkenfried attempted to pick-up nickel, and burned himself on it. At the very least, she knew that either the nickel or copper in their pocket change was harmful to vampires. It was times like this where she was glad to have glasses.

Burton heard Jay's question, and truth be told he really hadn't counted on not only a blind student but one who couldn't actively participate in any of the exercises.

Still, at least in Jay's case the answer came more quickly.
"Certainly. Just because you can't see doesn't mean you can't use your other senses, especially hearing and touch. Practice enough and you'll be able to feel the air displacement before a blow or hear a blade cut through the air."

When no more questions were forthcoming Burton nodded to seemingly nobody in particular.
"Okay then. I want seven groups with one dummy each. Practice a bit, get a feel for the dummy. If you're not practcing on the dummy I want you to pair up with these kick and punching pads. Myself and Mr. Chapel here will be observing for a bit to see where everyone is.

Oh, and one more thing. This is a ground-up class, and since we're starting with the basics..."

Burton tapped a couple of buttons on what looked like a digital watch on one wrist. Suddenly each one of the vests started to make a low and barely audible hum and several lights along the ends of the top sections started blinking.

"...that also means no powers either. It's not that I don't trust any of you in particular not to use your powers, but now the temptation is fully removed. You're not just wearing weight vests, they have suppressors built in as well, and I have the controls to all of them.

Now group up, grab dummies and pads, and let's see where everyone's at."

Already, Bramwell and Makoto did not like the lack of shared thoughts. It was awkward for people who usually organized through it, especially considering that Makoto still may just need Bramwell to be a mouth-piece, though the need was not immediate. Bramwell was confused, and was having trouble finding people. Bramwell assumed there just might be sparring due to the mention of grouping-up, which meant that partners would probably be divided by sex, age, and weight. In the confusion, Bramwell accidentally fumbled into Jay.

"I am sorry about that," Bramwell said before he saw who he ran into. He had realized that he ran into somebody who was really tall for somebody that was sixteen. As he suspected that the trainers would correct him, he decided to ask, "Would you like to partner?" Bramwell said. Makoto watched the preceedings with great interest, and noticed Sakura moving with great expediency.

"Cassie, would you be fine with my being your partner," Sakura said in a somewhat shy manner. She suspected largely the same thing as Bramwell, and so waited for a response.

For about a minute the only response the interstellar refugees received was silence, and once the answer was received it might seem a bit underwhelming.

"Abigale Moyle, proceed to hangar bay 2 to dock."

In preparation for the arrival of the strange spacecraft the hangar bay had been evacuated of people, just in case the strangers proved less than friendly. Only one man remained in the large room, standing casually at attention near the doors and waiting for the spacecraft to land, dressed in the same neat black uniform used by all the guards aboard the station. The only weapons he carried was a simple metal baton and a small pistol, because he didn't think he would need any more than that. The headmaster liked to play things safe though, so several dozen heavily armed guards were assembling on the other side of the doors just in case things turned sour.

Jenkins hoped that everything would go smoothly though, he had been waiting to welcome a new teacher to the station before he had been called away to deal with this, and he'd rather not have to spoil his good mood by hurting anyone.

Abigale didn't bother with replying, instead she fired up the shuttle's engines and piloted the craft towards the station. The shuttle soon found itself resting in the hanger bay, its engines cooling as Abigale and Markus stepped off the craft. Abigale carried with her what appeared a rather large suitcase, which she seemed to be struggling with. However, when Markus attempted to help her, she shot a glare that would have melted steel at him, and he wisely retreated. He then rolled his shoulders and hopped in place.
"Is it just me, or is everything... Lighter?" he said, more to himself.
"The planet must have a lighter gravity field then Terrva. Suppose that's somewhat interesting," Abigale replied, before walking towards the only man in the hanger, whom she assumed was their welcoming party. Placing the suitcase on the ground, she brushed her unruly hair off her face and settled her unsettling gaze on the poor soul.
"I'm Abigale Moyle. I assume this is the Academy for the Empowered? Or whatever it's called," Abigale said, her tone about as inviting as an ice cold lake. As she spoke, she sniffed the air and noted the absence of a sugary scent she grew up with: The smell of thyrium. Afterwards, she noted the man's weapons, and did her best to not snort. Even if the man tried to attack her, he wouldn't draw his pistol in time before there was a blade lodged firmly in his throat.

Excuse me, sir. Seeing as how the V.P. is such a V.I.P., shouldn't we keep the P.C. on the Q.T.? 'Cause if it leaks to the V.C. he could end up M.I.A., and then we'd all be put out in K.P.

"I would love to grab some breakfast with you, I didn't have much to eat before coming up."  Ocean replied, as they walked towards the table he hesitantly began to answer Dominic's question.  "I believe I'm up here to serve as both a flight Instructer, and as a combat shuttle pilot.  I guess the two of us will be swing a lot of each other, can't exactly get real flight hours while in space."  Adjusting his cane slightly while walking Ocean continued "other than that I don't have much to offer, a degree in history from the US Air Force Academy isn't worth much from a teaching stand point."

Jay smiled in response to Burton's answer, and nodded, though he didn't say anything, more from being lost in thought then anything. He was paying attention, though.

He was very alarmed when Burton turned on the power suppressors. He was about to ask Burton if he could make an exception for his powers, since his wouldn't exactly be useful for helping him fight, other then helping him 'see' slightly, when Bramwell bumped into him. "Whoa," His voice sounded alarmed, and he seemed kind of at a loss of what to do. "It's Ok," He said when Bramwell apologized. "Sure..." He said, then felt a soft nose touch his hand. Roady had come over, noticing that his master was having problems seeing. Jay fumbled for Roady's leash, then raised his hand before asking,"Would it be possible to make an exception with my powers being suppressed?" He question seemed to have no direction, because he had no clue where Burton was, but it was probably obvious that it was directed at him.

"I will get the green thing with sheen... Why did I just say that? Nevermind, I will get the dummy," Bramwell said as he went to collect the necessaries. He confused by just why he had slipped into an ideosyncracy of alliteration. Bramwell tried to not focus on it as he brought the equipment over. Bramwell could understand that Jay had just asked a question, so he did not bother to interrupt it. He instead started the 拳 (ch'üan, solo form) as a way to keep his mind and body ready after he started listening to music for various benefits it had on the mind.

Chram picked up the specialized vest and hooked it up to the back of her neck. She felt the power drain from her limbs until the standard organic amount was left. She looked around awkwardly unsure of how to react to the grouping up. The incident with Will before had left her feeling surprisingly unnerved, and without her usual composure.

Sean watched carefully over the group pausing occasionally to inspect the groups before stopping to inspect Jay and Bramwell's group, Jay who seemed to be particularly in trouble. Her cleared his throat to indicate he was there, "Do you need help?"

Declan stumbled into the classroom as Burton started talking. At breakfast, he had eaten way more than he had meant to, and noticed the time only just in time to sprint to class and not be late. He had hoped not to do that so much any more this year, but it seemed to be in his nature to be late all the time.

Declan listened a bit while Burton talked, and rolled his eyes at the Chuck Norris joke. He might have laughed if he wasn't so tense, but it wasn't that funny anyway. Declan groaned when he remembered that this was a self-defense class. Declan was absolutely useless with aby martial art, especially in his weak original form.

When he put on his vest, Declan immediately felt his power leave him. He instantly developed a hatred for the suppressor. It was unnatural to put a wall between a superhuman and his powers, even if they happened to be unnecessary in the situation. His superpower was a big part of who he was. Also, the vest was heavy. Now he just couldn't wait to get it off.

Declan didn't see many partnerless students, but the dummies were gone, so he reluctantly walked over to Erkenfried, and asked, "Do you mind if I practice with you?"

Jenkins watched inquisitively as the people disembarked from their spacecraft, idly considering the implications of their extreme similarity to humans. It seemed clear to him that the young girl taking the lead was a rather unpleasant sort, all glares and angry scowls as she approached him. She reminded him of the student Rachael Redwood. The male accompanying her looked to be about ten years her senior, and the similarity between the two made Jenkins assume that they were siblings. Neither looked particularly threatening, but assuming that looks wouldn't be deceiving could be a huge mistake so he would treat them with caution nonetheless.

The girl placed her rather large suitcase on the floor and introduced herself, sounding none too pleased to be there, and Jenkins mentally noted that it was her name that she had hailed the station with instead of the name or designation of her ship. "This is indeed the Academy for the Empowered," he answered calmly, "I am Richard Jenkins, the chief of security on this station. I would welcome you here, but first I must ask what your intentions in coming here are."

Dominic
Dominic nodded at what Ocean had said, "well, I don't think that the headmaster would be too eager to let the students fly the shuttles, so the simulator is probably the only way for them to learn anything. And you shouldn't sell yourself short, I don't have a degree at all and I can teach here just fine." He chuckled, "it's all about knowing what you're best at, and finding a way to pass that knowledge on to others." Having a flight instructor on the station seemed like a very good idea to him, he himself had gotten a flight license after an incident involving a villain pumping a passenger plane full of sleeping gas, and Dominic having to find a way to land it without killing everyone aboard. The plane wasn't in very good shape after the landing, and no one had died, but it still seemed like a good idea to learn how to handle such situations better in the future.

"It can be tough getting through to some of the kids," he continued, "but most of them are actually quite eager to learn, you just have to watch out for the bad eggs and make sure you don't let them spoil the lessons for the rest."

It took Rachael approximately a minute to realize she was going to fail at this class.
The type of fighting seemed more complex than what she knew, and Malik had been pretty fast with that dummy, fast enough that she had barely been able to keep track of what he was doing. She was more used to just hitting people hard and hoping she could get a makeshift knife.
The vest wasn't helping either. It wasn't too heavy, but right now Rachael was going to be slow enough without even more weighing her down. It was the kind of weight that Ruby wouldn't even notice, and the fact that Rachael wasn't that strong made her feel worse. She dug her fingernails into her wrist again.
Most of the dummies seemed to be taken already, and Rachael didn't want to try anyway, because she'd probably just humiliate herself. She wandered over to a group and pretended to be part of it.

The second Jay asked his question Burton was tempted to give himself a palm to the face for overlooking the obvious. Jay required a bit of an adjustment. Not leeway per se, but a bit of personal attention to give him confidence.

Tapping Sean on the shoulder he spoke softly, giving him a bit of direction.

"Wander around a bit between the students. See who's actually trying to figure things out versus just noodling around or not doing anything. THe only thing that needs correction right now is wild flurries of haymakers, other than that let them have at it or ask them to demonstrate. I'll work with Jay a bit."
Nodding to Sean he walked over to the group with Jay, Sakura and Bramwell. Gently taking a couple of punching pads from Bramwell he motioned for them to pay attention to what he was doing.

Standing in front of Jay he spoke deliberately but at normal volume. He may have been blind but like most people in his position Jay probably didn't like to be patronized with the slow simplistic kind of speech patterns some people affected just for people like him.

"Well Jay, the suppressor stays on for the moment. I know it's intimidating but we'll work on it. Suppressors get more and more commonplace all the time so this might just happen.
But we'll go slowly. What I need you to do is to make a fist and fully extend your arm, and listen to my voice and where it seems to be coming from."

Burton slipped the pads onto his hands while waiting for Jay to do what he asked.

Ocean

Ocean smiled standing by Dominic's table, "Well about the only thing I know how to do well is fly, my handful of experiences at ground combat have shown me that." For a few second a shadow passed over his face, sadness and a deep longing for something long gone. After recomposing himself Ocean looked back at Dominic "Well I'm sure that the Headmaster can figure something else for me to teach, if he needs me to teach." Looking around the cafeteria, Ocean noticed where the food was set up, "excuse me while I go get something to eat, I'll be back shortly."

Jay nodded to Burton, understanding the reason to leave the suppressor on, then said,'Go,' while pointing off to the side. Though it may not have been obvious, it was directed at Roady, and the seeing-eye dog obediently headed away to the side of the room. It was probably a good thing that Jay had two year's experience with being blind before he had his echolocation, and was good at pinpointing where sound was coming from. He did as he was told, though it seemed a little off.

Burton watched the golden retriever pad off but stay close by, a testament to the dog's intelligence, empathy, and the training it received.

Holding one of the punch-pads up he pressed it into the outstretched fist of Jay.

"Okay, you feel the pad, you know your arm is outstretched, and you hear about where my voice is. Now that you have that triangulated, punch the pad twice then duck, and keep listening.

Whenever you're ready."

Truth be told Burton wasn't completely sure if this would work totally, or of Bramwell or Sakura would start chattering and over analyzing as they usually did. However the technique was secondary to the primary purpose: to build Jay's confidence and self-assuredness in addition to kinsethetic awareness.

Cassie just shrugged off the mention of Chuck Norris, and just kept on having no clue who that was. She figured that she could just go look it up on her computer later. The Internet was a great thing, and she loved to look things up on it. She had actually been given the laptop while in the hospital. It seemed as if mysterious family members she didn't really know came up and gave her money to use, because her father never really cared enough for her well being to give her a laptop, or the ability to afford staying at the school. Or maybe all her parents earnings were transferred over to her, even if they weren't a lot. She made a mental note to talk to someone about that later, but she didn't entirely know where to start.

Cassie heard a voice from behind her. It was Sakura. She didn't know her well, but had talked to her previously. Just one time during lunch, or class. In response to her question however, she looked over to Tara, then back to Sakura. "Um....Give me a minute...." She said quietly.

"Tara? Did you want to team up with me, or is it okay if I team up with Sakura?" Cassie asked Tara. She had remembered Sakura's name, which was a surprise to her, because she wasn't the greatest with remembering names.

Caitlin
Caitlin didn't really know who to team up with, because she hadn't really got to know anyone in particular. There was a few options that she'd be fine with, but didn't really think of anyone in particular. She decided that for the time being, she'd just wait to see if anyone chose her. If they didn't, she'd pick someone out at random. Someone she wanted to choose, obviously.

Bramwell was not exactly, and his traditionally cheery countenance slipped away. With the circumstances, he just did something that was oddly simple in its action but rather complex in its execution. Specifically, he decided to deliver a punch to the dummy's celiac plexus. He had his arm next to his body with the palm of a closed fist facing up. Within a quarter of a second, his arm moved to punch, his arm twist one-hundred and eighty degrees to increase the velocity and inertia of the incoming strike through the knuckles. The blow was delivered with several hundred pounds of force as Bramwell exhaled. It was simple and did not have the complexity that Bramwell appreciated due to the potential for unpredictability and satisfaction at finally being able to achieve it on muscle memory, but it did have the fun of physics. Bramwell then stepped back, and took his ear-muffs off his ears to hang around his neck as he looked down. After several seconds with, his countenance as a small smile advanced onto his face. He did not mind the sounds created by the hit, as he had been used to hearing those sounds comming from his own body due to his middle school years.

"Where did you go?" Shade asked Gregorio as they start fighting the dummies, with Tobias just watching due to the fact the vest might cause unwanted problems with his mind and two bodies. Without their powers, Shade can only beat up the dummy, while Gregorio, using the random memories of earlier replays in defeating the dummy.

"The restroom. So, want to spar?" Gregorio asked. Shade nodded with a rather twisted smile and a mad glint in his eyes, which worries Gregorio even more. While Gregorio use multiple forms of martial arts, dancing and performing arts like ballet, tango and acrobatics, Shade simply fight dirty, using anything nearby. The mad look in Shade's eyes became even more noticeable as the scelera goes black.

Jay nodded to Burton, then took a deep breath and did as he said. His first punch nearly missed the pad, and just barely hit the side. The second was better, but he nearly lost his balance doing the dodge, though there was no real reason for it, just a lack of being able to tell what was where messing with his balance. He wasn't sure if he was supposed to stand back up afterward or not, so he just waited for Burton to say something else.
Times are looking grim these days~

"Huh. Seems that your normal method won't work here sis. The eyes don't scare him," Markus said in an amused tone. Abigale spun on her heel and was drawing her arm back to fling something dull grey at him within a split second, but Markus simply tapped her on the shoulder and sent her spinning to the ground, unable to correct her balance. Stepping past his younger sister, and ignoring the threatening growl and glare, he did a somewhat informal salute towards Richard.
"I'm sorry about her. She tends to only talk to other people from behind a blade of some sort," he said, kicking the object Abigale attempted to throw at him, a small knife, across the hanger as a small afterthought.
"Only because, at the time, everyone else was trying to kill me," Abigale shot back, dusting herself off and getting to her feet. Markus ignored her.
"Markus Moyle. Ex Colonial Office of Navel Intelligence. Callsign Gunslinger. This, as you know, is my younger sister, Abigale. Who I hope has calmed down," he said, looking at her. Abigale grunted and resumed staring at Jenkins, her red eye burning with something akin to bloodlust. Sighing, Markus shook his head. "Again, sorry about her." Reaching inside his jacket slowly, Markus then pulled out what would seem to be a pistol. Holding it in a non-threating way, he dumped the clip, which dropped to the ground with a surprisingly loud bang, then tossed it towards Richard. Abigale made no such move.
"We want shelter. And we're willing to work for it. Maybe even pay for it," Markus continued, reaching for the suitcase. He then swore as Abigale stabbed his hand with a second knife pulled from her coat. "Fuck!"
"Oh grow up. Not like it'll be permanent," Abigale replied. Ignoring Markus' swearing as he pulled the knife out, she looked at Jenkins. "The suitcase contains something very valuable. Something your station might find very useful." As she talked, Markus succeeded in pulling out the knife, then held his hand up to the wound began knitting itself back together.
"I'll give it 5 minutes," Abigale said, tearing her gaze away from Jenkins for a moment to look at the injury. Markus grunted and shook his hand, trying to shake the blood off.

When Jay's first fist had almost glanced off of the pad Burton had considered moving forward a bit to give him less of a reach issue.

The second punch however was better, meaning he was learning to adjust and quickly, a good sign, and when he finally ducked he swung the padded hand overhead at a decent speed, cutting it close to his head so he could hear the rustling of the air moving around the pad and the displacement against his skin and hair.
"Alright stand back up Jay."

When the tall lanky young man did he patted him on the shoulder, hopefully as a sign of encouragement.
"That's what I want you to work on, getting the feel for distances and listening for that sort of movement. It's only day one so there's plenty of time to work on it....but since you'll need to observe what else I'm doing..."

Burton gently pulled back on the weighted vests' collar to look at the identification number.

"I'll disable it for demonstrations. Other than that, you learn how to fight 'blind'. Funnily enough that probably will make you more effective than some people with their sight."

Burton turned to address Sakura and Bramwell.

"Sakura, Bramwell, I hope you two were paying attention, because one of you will be working with him on this."
Before leaving Burton put a hand on Jays back and spoke softly for only him to hear.

"If you ever want to work on anything in this class and need help, shoot me an email, I'll help you when I can. You can do this."
Moving along Burton sidled between different groups, querying few techniques and making sure a few "millers" actually practiced something rather than stood around.
It didn't take long however to spy the odd person out. In this case it was Caitlin who seemed to be milling around at the edges, waiting for direction.

Walking over to her he raised an eyebrow and gestured to the clusters of students as he queried the student.
"Anything I can help you with? Did everyone here push you out of their groups?"

Dominic nodded at Ocean and sat down at the table. While picking at his scrambled eggs he wondered what bad memory had made the other man look so sad, but it seemed that few were spared from personal tragedy during the war. Trying to avert his mind from such dark thoughts he instead started going over his schedule for the day while waiting for Ocean to return.

Jenkins
Jenkins listened and watched in silence as the two bickered, not really seeing a need to interfere until they had calmed down a little. When Markus threw his pistol to him he just caught it and studied it for a second before returning his attention back to the two. The weapon was obviously quite advanced, but not at all as advanced as Jenkins would assume based on their ability to create interstellar spaceships. If the headmaster allowed them to stay at the station he would ask the man about that, it might be a fascinating look into an alien culture that valued transportation much more than weaponry. At least the man's introduction had confirmed that the two were indeed siblings, though it now struck Jenkins as slightly odd that they knew how to speak English. He would have to ask them about that as well, if the headmaster allowed them to stay.

The girl seemed quite protective of whatever useful or valuable item might be in the suitcase, judging by the fact that she stabbed her brother in the hand for attempting to touch it. And either Markus was empowered or their species had a naturally faster rate of healing than humans, judging by the stab wound already visibly healing mere moments after the knife had been withdrawn. Both facts warranted further investigation.

"Miss Moyle," he said to Abigale, "I would ask that you refrain from stabbing people, it is against the rules of this station." Then he studied the suitcase for a moment before turning his eyes back to the two, "I would like to know what is inside the suitcase."

Abigale tsk'd and waved her hand at Markus. He rolled his eyes, then looked at Jenkins as he spoke. Looking again at Abigale, he raised an eyebrow. Abigale rolled her eyes.
"Whatever. Pretty sure she's getting cramped anyway," Abigale said. Markus nodded, then knelt beside the suitcase and popped the clips on it open.
"Verify. Voice identification," came a monotone voice from the suitcase. Eyeing Jenkins, Markus spoke.
"Serria. Aqutra. Ventra. Equais," he said. The suitcase beeped, then fell open. Inside the suitcase was a number of buttons and glowing lights, which Markus tapped at for a moment. He then took a deep breathe, and pressed a green button. The device hummed for a moment, then began emitting a aqua blue light. After a for moments, the light solidified into a recognizable shape.

The shape of a girl. Barely a foot tall, she opened her eyes and looked around. Then, she found Markus, and smiled.
"Markus," She said, her voice carrying a very human depth of emotion. Markus, for his part, smiled back.
"Heya Kara. Sleep well?" he asked, standing back up. Kara stretched and yawned.
"Yeah. I guess. Hey Mum," she said, waving in Abigale's direction. Abigale looked at Kara for a moment, then let a small smile creep onto her face.
"Kara. I need you to do your intro thing. Like the one back on Rainia," Markus said. Kara snapped to attention and looked at the man in front of her.
"Hello. I am Colonial Military Serria Class Defense Artificial Intelligence ID 00001, AKA Kara," she said, finishing with a bow. She then looked up at Markus with almost yearning eyes.
"You can wait. We have to convince these nice people to let you on their station first," he said. Kara pouted, then stood to attention again and waited.
