I SHOULD have the map for the test mission posted up tomorow and a description of how I hope for combat in this to work; once I have that up we can take a vote to skip ahead to the shooting at each other portion of this episode and then prepare for the actual killing stuff and the Jihad breaking out. We did this before and came up with how we wanted weapons to behave so that we can have some uniformity in our posts; the laser colors are canon so I am adding them to the description.

Laser weapons come in two types which are standard and pulse. Standard lasers fire a beam of coherent light that last slightly longer than a second and slices through armor like a knife and usually cuts long gouges and gashes into a target. Pulse lasers fire intermittently and release dozens of short laser blasts over a quarter second period, the result is less spread and greater damage to the area of impact. Laser colors vary by the manufacturer but they are always within a certain color spectrum because of their target wavelengths: small lasers are red in hue and ER versions approach orange in color, medium lasers are generally green ranging from lime to olive in hue with ER versions being sapphire and darker, large laser types are blue in hue some ER versions might be purplish.

PPC weapons fire hyper charged particles similar in appearance and effect to lightning. They travel slightly slower than the speed of light but the mass of the particles being fired combined with sheer energy allows the weapon to outclass lasers in damage and range. They are usually colored a pale white to an off-pink with some being blueish. A regular and ER PPC has a minimum range of 90 meters before the particles accelerate enough to cause significant damage.

Flamer on a 'mech fires white hot liquid plasma from it's engine to a maximum range of about 90 meters and causes damage by melting whatever it hits and cause 'mechs to heat up. The fact that it is radioactive just makes it that much more dangerous to infantry.

Plasma Rifle fires a white hot ball if plasmatized foam at a target dealing damage in a manner similar to a flamer over greater ranges. Getting hit by one causes the 'mech to heat up.

Autocannon is a class of weapon with a varying size and weight and even effect. Some autocannons fire in automatic bursts while others fire single massive shells semi-automatically. Things all AC's have in common is that they are automatically reloading large bore projectile weapons with rifled barrels rated 2,5,10, or 20 and have similar range, weight, and ammo specifications within each class.

LBX Autocannon are smooth bore varieties of Autocannons with a slightly reduced range but the ability to fire both standard autocannon rounds and scattershot rounds similar to a shotgun shell. They can only fire one ammo type at a time but can freely switch from one type to another between firings or even missions if the proper types are equipped.

Ultra Autocannon weapons are very similar to regular autocannons but with twice the cycle rate.

Rotary Autocannon essentially a gatling gun style weapon firing autocannon shells. They are ammo hogs with full auto rates of fire and ar eprone to jamming when fired for more than a short burst.

Machine Guns these weapons come in thousands of varieties but they all have some things in common. They are belt fed fully automatic weapons capable of penetrating vehicle armor at point blank ranges (less than 100 meters) and are often used primarily for anti infantry and battle armor work.

Gauss Rifles fire solid slugs that weigh 125kg each at speeds exceeding several times the speed of sound! The force of their shot heats the air inside the barrel to combustion and creates a brilliant flash of fire and plasma when used. Though the weapon does not use chemical propellant the energy required by the weapon to propel its ammunition means that damage to the gauss rifle could have explosive consequences.

Missiles all missiles regardless of type fire one missile per tube per volley and swarm on the designated target; since most missiles have only simplistic guidance systems and poor maneuvering capability they will not all usually hit the target hence they are fired en mass. Streak Missile systems avoid this by only allowing the weapon to fire when a hard lock is achieved by all missiles at once while Artemis enhanced missiles have better targeting and guidance systems than other missile types. Long Range Missiles must travel at least 180 meters to activate their guidance system but can be blind fired at enemies within that range.

Rockets are unguided self propelled warheads; they can only be fired in a single volley all at once but have an intermediate range and strong explosives.

If I missed something let me know.

The first Map is up, click it, view it, get a feel for it and if you got any questions lemme know. That is the map for the area where the combat test is (hopefully soon) going to be given; its only about a KM in length and half a KM wide but the terrain will make it so that there is not fight as soon as the test starts.

Now I'm going to take a vote: Who wants to keep the course with what we are doing and Rp the rest of the test involving the 160k/h suicide machine and who wants to get on to the combat test? First to 5 votes is the winner.

4x Merkava IX
1x Glory FSV

2x Patton
1x Rommel Howitzer
3x Thumper Artillery
1x Heavy LRM Carrier
2x Hawk Moth
1x Ahnur
2x Laser Saxon
3x Heavy APC
5x Infiltrator Mk II
4x Salamander AP
5x Phalanx
6x Heavy Infantry Platoon

The Merkava IX doesn't show up until 3073 in the Regulan Commonwealth after the fall of the Free World's League and even then its only used by the Regulan Hussars until after the Jihad ends (which is not until 2078). Since it doesn't exist yet its not possible to own.

The Glory is only really used by the Federated Suns and comes into full production in 3067 and only after the Jihad's first shots have been fired on Outreach. It was developed however before the FedCom civil war which GSS took part in and was present at the final battle in New Avalon. How about some of the prototype version which featured a Light Gauss Rifle w/2 tons of ammo and the LRM launchers just as the AC5 version has?

If your referring to the Partisan AA tank then its good to go.

Patton tanks are a mercenary staple and a few of them would be good.

The Heavy LRM carrier is cheap, available, and brutally efficient and sounds right up the ally for a company like GSS.

I'm thinking about the Hawk Moth and leaning toward yes.

The Anhur won't be needed since GSS will not be deploying conventional infantry any time soon there isn't much money to be had in it by a small Corp and since they are primarily mobile raiders/scouts/and 'mech support company its more in beneficial to take the money spent on a platoon of soldiers to pay a Mechwarrior or dropship crew, let governments deal with grunts.

The Saxon is sadly not existent for 3 more years, on the bright side business should be good enough to warrant purchasing them by then.

I'm not sure about the Salamander Armor starting off, its rare Clan tech and its (as armor goes) expensive lemme consider it.

The Phalanx armor was ok'd earlier.

For the rest, GSS is a small (as in very small) mercenary company and the addition of the second company (even though they want to call it Bear's Brigade its a Company Sized element) of 12 'mechs and some vehicle/armor support that represents a more than 2x size increase; I'd like to avoid artillery at this time because the logistics are something that the company currently ICly couldn't handle they are stretching things with front line Vs and armor. The primary job the Condordat has hired GSS for is to provide 'Mech support to their operations (The Concordat is notoriously short of 'mechs and has no battle armor at all but has lots and lots of tanks).

GSS needs more of a mobile tank/armor squadron with multiple capabilities instead of a big mixxed unit company that the corp. lacks the logistics to support.

Something like:
x2 Patton Tanks and x1 Rommel tank as the main vanguard: Both tanks are cheap and effective and punch above their weight and are common enough that repairing or replacing them would be a snap.
x2 Tracked Heavy APC to carry battle armor into position. Tracked for multiple terrain capability and heavy to carry battle armor.
Armor Platoon: 1 Squad of Phalanx Armor (4) and two squads of Achileus Armor (8). These are both stealth armors that are quick and jump capable, perfect for scouting and hit and run.
x2 Prototype Glory AFV to protect the flanks of the formation and provide support for the tanks if needed.
x2 Partisan AA Tanks provide Anti Air and rear/flank protection.
x2 Hawk Moths to scout around and to harass enemy targets

The BV for that is just over 8,000 makign it almost as capable as the entire 'mech company

Your example looks pretty good but I don't feel safe about no arty. Perhaps some Sniper of Thumper field artillery? Though if we're getting enough support artillery won't be hugely needed; we have tanks.

I was really leaning towards the Merkava as the backbone here, but considering they're not quite yet available, I'll hold off. Too bad we're just a few years from the M1 Marksman. Now that is a tank to grind mechs. Since I'm leaning on the tanks, would might I take away one Hawk Moth and Glory or Partisan for, perhaps, a.... Tiger? PLEEEEZ! TIGER? PUHLEEEZ!

You can change it around if you like or totally ignore what I suggested and start again it's no problem to me I just trying to find a compromise. If you got a suggesting throw it out :)

Also... vote.

Time for me to go for today.

Cica Combat test.

Alright, my updated, updated Armored Cav force.

Actually, it's exactly the same as Saint's idea, but with Tigers. Tank Goodness! And can I update the Tigers? Just need some better armor.

2x Tiger
x2 Patton

x2 Tracked Heavy APC
Armor Platoon: 1 Squad of Phalanx Armor (4) and two squads of Achileus Armor (8)
x2 Prototype Glory AFV
x2 Partisan AA

Either remove a Patton and you can add Ferro Fibrous to the Tigers or keep it as is and this will be good.

For one thing, if Jaz is piloting a heavy support 'mech then I don't see why the Cicada speed test would have any relevance to her role. Most likely she'd ignore it as much as possible and let the testosterone junkies (*cough*James*cough*)do their dick-waving while she tries to put Bulldyke's cockpit back together.

Also, what program did you use to design that hex grid?

To her role, probably none.

But to other mechwarriors who would probably laugh like hyenas at the support mech pilot failing time and again....
