Assigning a Co-OP without leave from the OP is bad juju. A major etiquette no-no. Of course, I'm not part of the RP, but that's my two cents.

I'll vote for you to be temporary Co-OP.
I'll only second the motion with explicit endorsement from SaintB. Nothing against you personally HP, it's just good RP ethics.

I know, and I'm hesitant to do this. But SaintB has no quarrels with HP, and well, fortes fortuna juvat.

Some people want me to be co-OP until SaintB can return full-time, although I'd only be approving newcomers and keeping both IC and OOC threads from getting dustbinned.

Personally, while I am against taking the position without express approval from SaintB, I can understand where everyone else is coming from.

I'm so sorry about the internet bullshit going on with me guys but sadly money is in short supply while bills are plentiful, I'm going to be changing ISPs because I don't want a feud with my current... err previous? provider.

I'm looking through all the apps that were placed up (checking battle values etc.) and I'll get answers to them before I go home from work (I have between now (8:20 am) and midnight since I'm at work.

The Co-OP issue... I have been in many Rps with HP and always liked his style; not so many with Dom but Dom seems to have more general knowledge of the Mechwarrior Universe. I'm considering holding it to a vote or perhaps making both Co-Ops, and I have a half assed plan to get some continuation going without actually pushing the story ahead - or I may just say DAMN THE TORPEDOES and let the lasers and lead fly.

I support both of us being co-OPs, especially since, as you may remember from the ODST RP, I have a problem with people who try to take over the RP while the OP isn't looking. Having a second person would probably help.

For Alex Arcuno life is all statistics. He can't remember anything before his 21 birthday, and is trying to figure out what happened. Alex awoke inside a tube after what was described as a "traumatic" event. He immediately was thrown "back" into the midst of devout Word of Blake followers, and they almost all knew him. Things he had supposedly done were ruthless, calculating, and tactically brilliant. He was supposedly so loyal that after a "suicide" run he was pieced back together and "improved". By adding Cybernetic implants including Improved Enhanced Prosthetics with secondary power, Pain Shunts, Enhanced Multi-Modal Ear/Eye/Speech with Boosted Transmitting/Recording/Transmitting, Filtration Liver/Lung, full Body Myomar Implants including Dermal Myomar Armor and Triple Strength Myomar, and enhanced cosmetic surgery to make him appear as a normal, but attractive, human. At first re-integration went smoothly, Alex was a natural Mech Warrior and operative. His cybernetics made him faster and stronger than any normal man, and his reflexes were inhuman. He had a very specific skill set: eloquent violence. However, things began to seem wrong. Stories did not match up. Circumstances seem forced. Events became muddled. After awhile Alex needed out. Along with a few other discontents Alex began a way to fake their deaths. Arranging a fire fight with a group of traitors who had been siphoning off funds and investing them in industry. In a large explosion the small group was able to seize several experimental mechs and fighters. Along with the experimental equipment the group managed to "liberate" the substantial financial assets that were siphoned off by the agents they "liquidated". Unfortunately the substantial funds are tied up in long term investments and money is needed fast for repairs and maintenance. This leaves Alex looking for money and contacts to help him discover who he is, and if Alex is really his name.

The 'mech is still a bit much, and a bit not yet readily available; you seem to like direct fire support 'mechs and PPCs and if you want I can make several suggestions for you that fall into the kind of bv level I'd prefer people starting in; I'm limiting the tech at this time to reflect how most mercs live - not everyone is Wolf's Dragoons or Waco's Rangers and most mercs are nearly always broke and struggle to stay afloat between jobs; the Deva's maintenance costs would run almost as high as the entire GSS budget with all advanced technology it uses. I'm not saying you can't manage to salvage one later on however.

I like the background of the character but I'm going to politely request you loose most of the cybernetics, the level he is at now is the level I warned about (He'd make a Shadowrun character cry because of all his cybernetic modifications) he's more like a Terminator than a human.

Suggestions for your 'mech based off the role and weaponry you seem to prefer:
Awesome
Banshee - The 3M seems especially suitable to you.
Vindicator

I'm just making some suggestions, you don't have to pick one of them.
I'm not above allowing people to modify their rides within reason, most of them have some kind of personalization.

Name: Jasmine Mandela
Call Sign: Bitch
Age: 37
Specialty: 'Mechwarrior
Description or Photograph: "Built like a brick sh*thouse" is one phrase Mandela's former comrades used to describe her. "Bulldyke" is another. Standing 5'7" and weighing in at almost fourteen stones of nearly pure muscle, Mandela is dark skinned and keeps her black hair shaved close to her scalp.
Biographical Information: Throughout her career, Subaltern Jaz Mandela was the lone woman in a company of Battlemechs in the Taurian Defence Force. To cope with working in such a male dominated environment, Mandela resolved to verbally and physically kick the ass of every single pilot the moment they tried to cast any sort of aspersions on her sex. This behaviour swiftly earned her a reputation as a hardass among the more favourable 'mech pilots and as a bitch among the less but, rather than being upset by this, Mandela took it as a sign she was doing something right and adopted it as her callsign, thereby forcing her detractors to use in formally and making it impossible to use it as an insult.
Although never really liked by her subordinates, Mandela was recognised as a gifted 'mechwarrior and her reign of terror did eventually see her promoted to command of a Battlemech company before a training accident left her crippled and her Catapult C4 2.0 waiting to be scrapped. Although the damage to her left leg was repaired through surgery and prosthetics, she was no longer deemed medically fit to pilot 'mechs and received an honourable discharge.
Sick of civilian life after only a few months, Mandela signed on with Gun Special Squadrons, taking with her the Catapult she rescued from the scrapheap and jury-rigged some repairs.
Do you own your own vehicle? If so what kind? Damaged CPLT-C4 Catapult (BV (2.0) = 1,358)
Personal Equipment: Black TDF Officer's beret, Flightsuit,

OOC: What experience do you have with Battletech? See above, though I've spent longer on the wiki now.[/spoiler]
How damaged is the Catapult? Otherwise this App is cleared.
Name: Chris Rühr
Call Sign: Cinder
Age: 26
Specialty: Aerospace Pilot
Description or Photograph: Chris is exactly six feet tall and athletically built. His hair is short and copper coloured while his face is narrow with angular cheeks and jawline. The small silver studs of ocular implants can be seen protruding from the outer corner of each eye.
Biographical Information: Having long wished to become a combat pilot, Chris studied aerospace engineering at university on his homeworld of Outreach, only to be turned down by the Taurian Concordat's military on account of his eyesight not being quite up to standard. This was still deemed to be the case even after he had his eyes augmented with implants to the point that they were better than most humans with perfect vision.
Instead Chris became freighter pilot, but grew swiftly bored with the monotony of cargo transport and eventually went looking for more interesting employment. He successfully signed on with Gun Special Squadrons, as an aerospace fighter pilot providing close air support for their mechwarriors - the job he had always wanted. Under the GSS medical plan, his implants were further enhanced and reprogrammed so that they could receive information from whatever craft he was piloting and project it on to his retinas. In theory, Chris could literally fly with his eyes closed, while his degree gives him a theoretical knowledge of aerospacecraft repair supplemented by practical experience from jury-rigging repairs on ageing freighters.
Do you own your own vehicle? If so what kind? No, but can we say that GSS have Ammons he can fly?
Personal Equipment: For personal protection he keeps a combat knife and rail pistol with custom sights designed to work with his implants to project a targeting reticule wherever he points it. Both are sheathed and holstered within his flightsuit. He also has a set of customised control interfaces for plugging into his cockpit to work with the implants and a rather piecemeal collection of tools scrounged, stolen and occasionally even paid for over the course of his freighting career.
OOC: What experience do you have with Battletech? Next to none. I've spent maybe four hours total on MechAssault 2 for the XBox, of which maybe two hours was focused on the story campaign and the rest was spent pwning everything with a Thor on some sort of challenge mode, so I know pretty well nothing besides being able to name a few mechs. This application took me a couple hours of researching on Battletech Wiki :P

Couple things with this one, tone down the implants a bit - Battlemechs and Aerospace fighters use neurohelmets to accomplish what your implants would anyway so lets leave them at vision correction ok? Besides the GSS health plan is pretty much we won't (deliberately) shoot you and in the likely case you are shot we will get you treated ;). The other is the standard GSS fighter is a Corsair because of it's low cost and relative high performance, something like the Ammons BV is too high and the cost is too much. Aerospacers are secondary characters because not all missions will require, or have available space, for air support; for Rp purposes GSS has one air wing (4 fighters) between two 'mech companies of mixed build.

Name: John Perry
Call Sign: Prime
Age: 27
Specialty: Mechwarrior
Description or Photograph:
Image
Height: 6'0"
Weight: 180lbs

Biographical Information: As a fresh-faced Mechwarrior, Perry was taken on by a small, undistinguished mercenary group that threw in with Katrina Steiner-Davion during the FedCom Civil War. Perry piloted an Argus during this time, claiming an Uziel as salvage early on in his career. Subsequently he used his salary to repair the Uziel, which turned out to be a fortuitous move on his part. The four lances' that comprised his mercenary group were torn apart during an engagement against enemy forces. Only a few other pilots made it out alive. With his Argus claimed as salvage, Perry took his Uziel to Solaris, competing in the Medium weight matches there until he'd saved up enough to purchase a Black Hawk-KU. Once again piloting a Heavy Mech, Perry has returned to Outreach to sign up with a new mercenary group.
Do you own your own vehicle? If so what kind?:
Heavily Modified Uziel
Carries 10 tons of Ferro-Fibrous armor. Standard weapons have been stripped in order to accommodate a second Large Pulse Laser. Engine has been replaced with a 315XL series. This Mech was equipped purely for Solaris VII matches.
Slightly Modified Black Hawk-KU
The stock Medium and Small Lasers have been stripped, and replaced with a single Large Pulse Laser. Two Medium Pulse Lasers have been removed in order to incorporated additional heat sinks.
Personal Equipment: Nothing notable.
OOC: What experience do you have with Battletech? With Battletech? None (Actually, scratch that. I've made a character before, played it a bit, and have experience with various other d20 tabletops, but not particularly with Battletech). With Mechwarrior? A fair bit (I've played Mechwarrior4: Mercenaries too many times to count. I played a few other Mech games when I was younger. It was the first video game series that I really got into).

I see why you modded the Blackhawk, its BV is almost exactly 1,400 that way - very nice. Just one 'mech for now in the Rp please and you are accepted.

See above, though I've spent longer on the wiki now.

How damaged is the Catapult? Otherwise this App is cleared.

I don't really know enough about 'mech design to say. I was thinking that the Catapult had suffered some sort of malfunction whereby some piece of the supporting structure broke off and got shoved into the cockpit, skewering Mandela's leg. The damage to the cockpit and the 'mech itself could be easily repaired but the fact that it indicted more serious problems with its structure was what had it destined to be scrapped. Assuming GSS would be willing to help with those small repairs, the mech itself will be fine...except that there's a chance it might collapse at any moment.

If I say he got the implants through the health plan of one of his former freighter employers, would that be okay? Having a character whose eyes had a built-in HUD was basically my starting idea with the character and everything else followed, so I'd really prefer to keep it in if at all possible?

I'm fine with everything else you pointed out though but you can bet Chris is going to be spending a lot of his time (a) trying to get his hands on some salvaged missile pods, and (b) figuring out how to fit those pods to his Corsair. I'll explain more in my first post...

Okay, so I've also been thinking about modifications Chris Rühr might make to his Corsair as parts become available, and one of the things I really want to do is give the thing some missiles. I'm thinking of ripping out both Large Lasers in favour of a custom LRM-18 with three tons of ammo, and replacing the Medium Lasers with Extended Range Medium Lasers.

Obviously, I don't know enough about Battletech to know if this is a good idea. I'm basing the decision mainly on real-world logic which would suggest that missiles are better than lasers because you can hit targets outside your line of sight (for example, beyond the horizon) and presumably do more damage. On the other hand, I don't know how true that is in the Battletech universe, and the damage values on the wiki only confuse and terrify me. What I have gathered is that the modifications I propose would make Cinder's Corsair about three tons heavier than a CSR-V14 but with only around half of the heat output, so I reckon I could afford to rip out a few of the heat sinks as well to get rid of the mass penalty and still give the lasers a better fire rate than they would have on the V14.

Obviously none of these modifications will be happening for a while, but now seemed like a good time to ask those more knowledgeable than me. So does this sound like a good idea?

Also, I drew a pretty picture of the Custom Corsair, based on this image from the wiki. I'll ink it once I'm settled on the specifics of the design. Click the image for a larger version:

What no blaze of blue across the spine and friction flames across the wings? :p

Dammit why do you have to be so talented, looks good. As far as the LRM-18 thing....er, better take it up with SaintB or somebody more versed in the tabletop realm. I have questions about it but then again the most experience I have is with the Mechwarrior games.

According to the wiki, Long-Range Missiles only come in multiples of five, so you can get LRM-5s, 10s, 15s or 20s but not 18s. However, I can't think of any good reason that someone couldn't just dismantle an LRM 20, discard two of the missile tubes, and cobble the rest together into a slightly smaller launcher and call it an LRM-18. If the LRM 20 in question came from salvage then it could even be justified by saying that two of the tubes were fubar so Cinder and the Grease Monkey made do with what they had.

Also, I thought it might make for an interesting scene at some point when Arclight or another officer walks into the hangar and demands to know why Chris and Seb have partially dismantled one quarter of their unit's air support and left it scattered all over the place in the name of SCIENCE!

Okay, that's the physical. How do you keep the FCS from being screwed when it tries to fire two missiles in sequence and registers a fault?

Not trying to pick like another RPer, just saying :P
