And yes, because it's either I read every post in the IC or just make a fucking post already and go from there. Blame it on him not being able to focus right now.

Oh so you're a space-hillbilly... well I guess that's alright. Still, did it HAVE to be the Ghost Bears? I mean they give any and all mercs no quarter for no discernable logic whatsoever. But they're still clanners, shouldn't be surprised that logic doesn't figure into the equation.

Me, I've always been a merc. Always will be. Dying on some rock because an asshole with the right genetic makeup and surname or who glad-handed the right peerage thinks everyone ought to is a stupid thing to do. Hell, the Star League wasn't all roses in the first place, and things won't be that stable again, so why glom onto ideals when somebody with a bit of tactical sense and some initiative can pretty much pluck C-Bills out of the air with just a bit of work?

And yeah it HAD to be ghost bear, very family oriented and by 3059 they pass an edict where there must be atleast one freeborn member per star, and then you get into the ghost bear dominion and shit later. But I mostly just liked the actual community the most, lots of friendly guys.

Certainly more open than those Falcon assholes...

For anybody keeping score, YES Artemus is highly influenced by my gameplay of the Mechwarrior games, especially 2: Mercenaries and 3. That being said... I still really don't understand Clan culture. I mean you would THINK somebody would figure out that the whole "Trial of [Fill in specific trial here]" thing wasn't doing anyone any favors in the long run, advanced tech be damned.

Culturally speaking it gave the descendants of the SLDF something to do. You don't just tell an entire population of veterans to "stand down". You'll have a full scale rebellion on your hands, which did happen for awhile during the first exodus.

Yeah, that part I understand. Wargames are great for a distraction and all, but you would think that somebody, somewhere along the line would have thought that maybe the whole one on one Trial of Position thing wasn't selecting for combat prowess in general, just prowess in one on one engagement.

I mean sure, the Clans got their trouncing eventually when they tried to invade and it turns out the 'barbarians' used their own rules against them, but where in the blue hell were the loremasters going "Um... I know it's been a couple of centuries but let's review just exactly what we're getting into here..."

Hell look at the tech. Yeah sure the offensive capability of clan Omnimechs is overwhelming, but there's a significant lack of tech devoted to combined-arms tactics and any sort of prolonged engagement. Just what in the hell were they thinking?

They were thinking they'd waltz in with a series of trial like battles and win. And of course if clan wolf hadnt been a warden clan and the wolfs Dragoons not been given the order to secretly prepared the IS for invasion we'd be looking at a different world

HP, you know James is several hundred metres behind Ronin just now, right? He hasn't moved since Jaz and Artemis saved his ass, while everyone else has been moving north at various speeds. The nearest 'mech is Jaz's and even she won't be able to see him through the forest.

I'm wanting to make the final lance organization mixed, with a scout, brawler, sniper, etc in each one.

Eh, maybe not that varied. Perhaps it would be better to have mixed lances geared towards one general arena of combat or the other. For example a mixed-composition lance could be more geared towards scouting and recon, but have enough firepower to deal with a wide variety of situations. Same goes for one leaning towards the heavier end of things, more firepower but enough mobility to keep from getting cut to ribbons by the fast movers.

For example, here's the general idea
Mixed Combat Lance:
Slot 1: Multirole/Striker
Slot 2: Multirole/Brawler
Slot 3: Direct fire Support (sniper)
Slot 4: Indirect fire Support (missile 'boat)

The key idea is that the fire support mechs bog anything down while the striker and brawler swoop in to hack away. With that in mind you could have a lighter "harasser" lance that looks like this:

Slot 1: Scout
Slot 2: Multirole/Skirmisher
Slot 3: Direct Fire Support
Slot 4: Electronic Warfare

In this configuration, the Scout locates enemy formations and/or hidden units, the multirole/skirmisher gets their attention and taps away at any defending units, the 'sniper' lines up a kill shot to take down a more vital unit, and the EW mech keeps everyone hidden as best as possible.

Clear as mud I hope?

Um..HP...did James miss this part?

By my count (I have been keeping count) James should have about 5 or 6 full volleys and another half left for his missiles and about half his MG ammo.
