Depends on what you call lowballed. Salary for an enlisted mechwarrior in GSS is 2400 a months plus private barracks quarters transportation food and mech repairs. And like any military unit promotions increase pay; you also get a 400 cbill bonus (week of pay as a probationary mechwarrior)

Except contracting with the Concrdiat should come with automatic hazard pay because, again, they thought fit to antagonize the Roughriders.

You know, Hansen's Roughriders? The ones that laid waste to the Falcons during the Clan Invasion, still managed to put a big hurting on the Lexington Combat Group during the Fed-Com civil war, THOSE Roughriders?! The ones where no combat vehicle or mech is rated below 60 tons?!

Hey now bub! There wouldn't BE the modern concept of pizza is us east coasties didn't know good food. It would still be pita bread with crushed tomatoes on it! The New York style hand tossed pizza is still the king of all pizzas, deep dish is also great but only when its done right and the toppings are actually inside(and on top) of the pie and its not that ripoff sicillian shit with the thick greasy crust. Artisian pizzas or whatever they are called are the the food equivalent of blasphemy! Vanilla beans and feta cheese? Artichoke and chopped liver? Spinach? *shudders*

In short I know my pizza well enough that I could work for food network eating it around the nation and sample its wonders at least once a week.

There's plenty to post about. There are conversations happening, the colonel has organized seating with nametags so that's significant, so there's plenty to post about.

I'd like to think we're a welcoming bunch and willing to include everyone in, but nobody here will do the work for you unduly. You want in? Participate.

So, in essence, NYC did it first, but Chicago does it better.

...and gets no credit for it because everyone has a fetish for the big rotten apple but that's par for the course as well. Oh and I've had pizza from Pittsburgh (metallic and desparation flavor), State College (insert obvious rape and cover-up joke here), and Philadelphia (soggy from the booze and flop sweat from game nights), eh, alright, but nothing beats a good ol slice from the local boys at Ginos East

Oh, and whenever you have the chance I think a bit of a bump forward would be appreciated. Everyone's chomping at the bit to start shooting and all...but I'm still aware of your limited access given your situation so whenever possible.

We are about to start combat, I want to keep it as free form as possible but things need to be considered:
Even light 'mechs are hard to kill. There are almost never any one shot 'mech kills unless you get extraordinarily lucky and those things should be left for dramatic moments. Keep in mind the relative speeds of your 'mechs, an Atlas traveling 50k/h is not going to keep up with a Jenner going twice as fast, nor will it remain in firing range for more than a few seconds even if it chases the Jenner. Weapons can fire beyond their ranges but they are less effective, the exception to this is missiles which run out of fuel and detonate or just fall to the ground, also remember some weapons (PPC and LRM for instance) have a minimum range. Please consider that firing weapons, moving, and using jump jets builds up heat in your 'mechs engine and in heavy combat you might find your 'mech starting to overheat. Lastly, be realistic in how you deal with incoming fire, Assault mechs will almost always just weather an attack and keep going while lighter 'mechs usually try to maneuver and keep from being hit in the first place.

If you guys prefer: It would slow things down but someone (myself or one of the Co-Ops Dominus or Pyro) can call the hits and misses on shots and what kind of damage they do if any.

Details on the map: The bright green grass represents areas that are below the regular ground level by more than 5 and as much as 10 meters, the most common grassy areas represent between -5 to +5 above basic elevation, olive green with brown patches is 5 to 10 meters above and olive green with white patches is 10-15 above, obviously higher elevation will give you a better field of view and you can use lower elevations to hide from enemy fire, without jump jets you can't go up two elevation levels in one space.

The forests represented by two lightly colored trees are light forests, you can't move at more than half speed through them without risking falling and you can spot enemies through them but shooting them is difficult through the foliage. The heavy forests are three dark colored trees, you can't see through them if they are adjacent to each other and the trees and branches are so thick that incoming or outgoing fire almost never hits, you can only move at 1/4 speed through them without endangering your 'mech.

The clear water (blue) spaces are barely ankle deep on a 'mech and don't have any effect on it. The water spaces with some waves in them are deeper and you can only move at half speed through them, jump jets do not work but you're mech cools faster, the turbulent looking spaces are very deep, you can only move at half speed from them and the 'mech barely builds up any heat at all but only head and shoulder mounted weapons can be fired.

There is something I've been meaning to ask. In MechWarriors4: Mercenaries running with passive sensors drastically reduced the range at which other 'Mechs could lock onto yours with missiles. Dropped it to something like 500m's, if I recall correctly. Is this considered canon, throughout the rest of the Battletech universe (passive sensors being, enemy 'Mechs don't show up on your radar outside of 500m's, you can't lock on with missile outside of 500m's, nobody can lock onto you with missiles outside of 500m's)?
I ask because my strategy in that game always involved dropping into passive sensors, running up close, punching enemy 'Mechs in the face with a load of lasers/AC's/SRM's, and then running circles around them while staying just outside in 500m mark.

Running your passive sensors wouldn't do that, it would lower the range at which they could detect you non visually. If they had line of site on you or you were marked with a NARC Beacon or similar thing they could target you from maximum range normally. I may be wrong but in the board game rules which I am loosely trying to adhere too the maximum range you can detect an enemy with sensors is 600 meters if they are powered up AND using active sensors too. Running passive scanners and powering down halves the distance respectively.

There are exceptions like Beagle and Bloodhound and Guardian and Angel...

However there is really no defense for line of site and that is what most pilots rely on to attack.

That is the map for the area where the combat test is (hopefully soon) going to be given; its only about a KM in length and half a KM wide but the terrain will make it so that there is not fight as soon as the test starts.

Now I'm going to take a vote: Who wants to keep the course with what we are doing and Rp the rest of the test involving the 160k/h suicide machine and who wants to get on to the combat test? First to 5 votes is the winner.

Just a thought while I was looking at the map, SaintB, but in the future I'd suggest saving the images as a .png instead of .jpg as you'll get a much clearer image with no artefacts from compression.
