Psychological assessment: Distrustful and quietly methodical, Mathias is not at all a good person. He is not above breaking the law, which Mathias does with a constant nature in his gang dealings, and he is not above using intimidation against his enemies. He keeps his business safe against competition, any and all. In terms of friendship, he has a group of friends whom meet, at least twice a week, at a coffee-shop Mathias owns. To state that they did not have that much would be an understatement; they were in debt nearly constantly, from either loan sharks or by the pressure from the gangs. Perhaps they made a deal with the devil, perhaps not. Whatever the cause, the Burke family found themselves with a dead rich uncle they did not know about before, and so found themselves with a good deal of money rapidly.
- Victim of Crime - Breaker’s Butchery firebombed and broken-into multiple times in 2015.
- Victim of Crime - Brother murdered by ‘unknown forces’ in 2012, case closed after three years due to insufficient evidence.
- Guilty of Crime - Four criminals murdered in 2015 outside of Isaac’s Meatshop, absolved and all charges dropped under the guise of Self Defense.
- Guilty of Crime - Owner of Breaker’s Butchery murdered, autopsy found traces of lead in the bloodstream. No allegations were made.
- Family Secret / Pact with Dark Powers - Some state the family made a deal with the devil. Their deaths support this. Whatever the cause, Mathias knows it, and he did not gain from it.
News spread fast, though, and within the month, they had been killed by a gang while crossing the street. The money, totalling a few billion, drifted away; apparently it belonged to someone else, or the will had issues. It was spend in a menagerie of legal fees, attempting to get it, and the family decided to let it go.
Mathias would be pushed to the Army after High School, by various factors, yet would somehow fail the ASVAB with a score of 20. Most of his classmates suggested it was due to him not wishing to go into his life, as his brother, whom was less of a genius than Mathias, would pass the ASVAB with a 68. He would, after this, come into the ownership of a small, run-down shop. This would become “Isaac’s Meatshop”, misnamed due to the fact that Isaac was the prior proprietor and that Mathias simply did not wish to take the time in renaming the establishment. Getting it running, the meatshop soon became a hub for criminal activity, who used the place as a meeting point away from prying eyes and slipped Mathias some money every now and again. The fact they they did not simply intimidate him was born from a mutual respect and from the fact that Mathias gave them a discount whenever they came over.
He would expand, buying-up Breaker’s Butchery within two years after the owner died of mysterious circumstances and no will could be found from him. This place would flourish as well, somewhat, though Mathias was not entirely satisfied. He would buy-up a little coffee shop, named “The Know” by a previous owner. Most times he could, and still can, be found here, and while the place did not have a bustling trade, it did well enough to prop itself up.
However, this period of prosperity would not last for Mathias. In 2015, Breaker’s Butchery would be broken into multiple times, supposedly by a gang which was rival to the one Mathias had allied himself with. The building would be firebombed once, though this was after-hours. These events would lead him to take up arms against those members, culminating in an alleyway shootout that would leave four gang members dead and one bystander wounded. The charges on Mathias were dropped, due to him acting in Self Defense, though truthfully that was far from the truth.
