I do have a worldbuilding doc stashed away somewhere for a setting called Aeon Star. IT was kind of supposed to be star wars-ey, but without all the star wars cruft I have trouble keeping track of and with a more interesting magic system then the force. I'm having trouble remembering the details but I think the main factions were like, a decaying, Ottoman esque empire and a coalition of mega corporations with atompunk style aesthetics, like a thin veneer of bright and cheery presentation barely masking ruthless, exploitative capitalism.

Ah. Yeah, I want something in the Destiny/Borderlands style where humanity's kinda on the backfoot, but has something cool to compete with all of the crazy alien shenans they have to put up with.

I don't have any ideas Atria, but to get you thinking, time period? Before/during/after either of the games? Because things could be vague or incorrect if done at the wrong time.

Hmm, maybe we could make up a time? I'm not really sure what the most popular point in the game is.

IMO, Red War or when the Hive was waking up on the Moon. One of those that has a lot of action moving across different planets.

Are you thinking something more sandbox-y or streamlined? Because I think a problem with some other RPs in the genre is that there's nothing tying anyone together.

Red War could be fun, would explain the starting at a lower power and having to claw your other powers back. Incentivize working together and fighting a guerilla war. Probably slightly more linear.

As for the Hive on the moon. This feels definitely more sandboxy for a setting. I'm assuming this is late D2 when the Doom Triangles have showed up and started messing around with reality and stirring up Savathun and the Hive.

The triangles I've referred to are The Darkness. It's here, and it's... Weird. It seems to really want to talk with the Guardians and Savathun really doesn't want the two sides to meet.

what's this? Who knows, will I actually run it? can't say.

Thonwards, ever Thonwards

When The Pit opened up, swallowing nearly all of London in the process, it revealed to humanity for the first time the existence of the Thon. Derived from cthonic, meaning subterranean, the Thon is an unthinkably vast network of caverns and tunnels, amounting to an entire underground world all told. The Thon is host to terrible, maddening things but also valuable, useful things. Granted the useful things are nearly always terrible and maddening as well, but that has not stopped humanity from making use of them, or hungering for more. It was from the Thon that the first delvers dreaded up the Elders Signs, the ancient sigils by which we reawakened the olde ways of magic and shortly thereafter the British Crown announced its intention to explore, colonise and exploit the Thon.

To “Go Thonwards” is to delve into the Thon in search of fame, fortune or more esoteric forms of power, it is a peculiar form of madness that begins as curiosity, ambition or mere desperation and it is usually terminal for the Thon is full of perils. You may be devoured by the cannibalistic serpent folk of the Shore Across The Sea, infected with brain rot by the parasitic spores of the titanfungi forests, or fall afoul of the ancient traps and wards of the Old Ones who inhabited the Thon aeons ago and have since, it seems, departed. Among all these foreign and exciting ways to die you should not discount the comfortable familiarity of a pistol shot to the head or a knife in your gut. The riches of the Thon are coveted by all who delve Thonwards and as we have discussed, that lot are invariably ambitious, desperate or dangerously curious and their comradeship will always prove a frail, easily broken thing.

But should you survive all of the above you will not go unrewarded. Fortunes change hands readily for the riches of the Thon, whether they be arcane artifacts of the old ones; flora and fauna with bizarre and useful properties or other even more bizarre and valuable oddities. You will also not go unchanged however, for the Thon is a vast and ancient thing compared to your mortal flesh and mind, when, if, you reemerge you may not be able to call yourself human at all. Still if that was the kind of thing to cause you to lose your nerve you would be better off staying on the surface. But if you think yourself prepared for the perils of the Thon and the changes it will wreak upon you (You are not, but you are welcome to think yourself so) then come, join us as we delve Thonwards, ever Thonwards.

The Elder Signs and Signwork.

The Elder Signs were the first great treasure humanity extracted from the Thon. These seven unspeakably ancient symbols appear to describe domains of magic: most supernatural phenomena that occur within the Thon can be categorised as belonging to one or sometimes multiple of the Signs. By inscribing a sign upon our flesh and later invoking the Signs with the right rituals and intent humans can perform supernatural feats akin to magic, though serious denizens of the Thon prefer the term “Signwork”

There are seven Elder Signs in all each with their own domain of signwork associated with them. a person may inscribe more than one into their flesh but each sign confers upon its bearer unnatural curses. so most people prefer to limit how many they take where possible. In addition each sign bears a baleful hatred towards some of the other signs and inscribing conflicting signs results in a hideous and torturous death.

After performing signwork signbearers are struck by a fierce and unnatural hunger particular to their sign, which must be satisfied before they can perform more feats of signworking. More accomplished practitioners can go longer and do more signwork between feedings but no matter how masterful they will eventually have to feed and their hunger will be all the more ravenous for the wait.

The Sign: Forge
It’s Domain: Fire and Steel
It’s Curse: Signworkers of the forge gain a stiffness and creakiness to their joints and flesh and struggle to bend or flex, especially when required to do so suddenly.
It’s Hunger: The forge hungers for heat and energy and those who bear the Forge sign must consume fire or explosive energy after working with it.
Banes: Brine, Wild, Blood, Spiral

The Sign: Brine
It’s Domain: Salt and Sea
It’s Curse: Those who bear Brine are always wet, slightly moist and damp at best but often completely sodden and leaving behind a telltale trail of dripping seawater.
It’s Hunger: After working with Brine the bearer must cover themselves in water. Best of all is to submerge fully in the ocean, but freshwater, even from a canteen will do and in a pinch other sorts of liquid may suffice.
Banes: Wild, Bright, Forge, Spiral

The Sign: Wild
It’s Domain: Beast and Branch
It’s Curse: Bearers of the wild exhibit brutish features such as elongated teeth, excessive teeth and a faint, animalistic musk. Most civilised folk unconsciously find themselves thinking of wild bearer as brutish and barbarous and matters of diplomacy or trade are always ordeals.
It’s Hunger:Those of the wild inherit the instincts of the wild and to replenish themselves must indulge in raw meat or freshly foraged vegetation
Banes: Brine, Forge, Mind, Spiral

The Sign: Mind
It’s Domain: Madness and Mysteries
It’s Curse: Bearers of the mind invariably develop an odd compulsion, kleptomania, insomnia, pyromania or some other habit that tends to surface at the most unfortunate of times.
It’s Hunger: THose who would work with minds must pay with their own and to replenish themselves must cast away memories, the more potent or useful the better.
Banes: Wild, Blood, Bright, Spiral

The Sign: Blood
It’s Domain: Flesh and Bone
It’s Curse: Bearers of Blood gain an...addition of some kind to their form, An extra digit, a third eye. This addition may occasionally be helpful but it is not under the wielders’ control and often acts on its own to make things more difficult.
It’s Hunger: ---------
Banes: Bright, Mind, Wild, Spiral

The Sign: Bright
It’s Domain: Light and Truth
It’s Curse: Bearers of the Bright emit a golden glow from their mouths and eyes which makes hiding difficult, especially in darkness.
It’s Hunger: The bright feeds off purity, to replenish themselves the Bright bearers must cleanse themselves with methods such as meditation, fasting or flagellation. The less painful the cleansing the longer it will take to fully replenish the bearer.
Banes: Brine, Mind, Blood

The Sign: Spiral
It’s Domain: The spiral twists and turns in on themselves the workings of the other
It’s Curse: The Spiral is a jealous sign and none who bear it may inscribe any other sign upon themselves or work with them
It’s Hunger: The Spiral feeds like a parasite off the other signs and to replenish themselves its bearers must withstand those works, whether from friend or foe.
Banes: Forge, Brine, Wild, Mind, Blood, Bright
...!?!

Interesting.

I would add examples of what each class of signwork is capable of, from the mundane cantrip shit, to like level 9 wreck your ass stuff.

It looks like spiral is a sort of... anti-magic magic?

Been about a week since anyone posted here so I'm just gonna spill my idea and see if that doesn't spur some action.

Take the space magic from Destiny (Ghosts, the Light, the Darkness, the Traveler, the Guardians, ect) and maybe some of the baddies (Mainly the Taken) and open it up. People can make their own alien races if they want, maybe lend a bit more customization with the classes, and maybe have it be kind of sandboxy. Tie it all together with the Darkness being a dick and starting the invasion of the triangles or maybe something else entirely. Totally open to suggestions.
