Karl Björn's cabin
It took a while for Karl to realise he was awake. His eyes begrudgingly gave way to the light that came from a rather spacious window on the side of the room, illuminating what he guessed was his private bedroom. "Clouds?" He thought, approaching the view of the outside and trying to remember just exactly what the hell happened. Flashes came to his mind: a night in a tavern, plenty of drinking - perhaps more than was proper for the occasion. He spent most of the time half-awake and barely responding, and was only really able to board the airship he was in because he overheard the words "air terminal" being uttered by Prince Vidhura. Ooooh... Vidhura. Something about an expedition to find some Auros source? Maybe. Some semblance of memory came back to him in a few moments. Names, faces, encounters, the small pledge the party made to the Prince in the Tavern, and the botched ending to the night at the hands of some unwanted guests who were willing to pick a fight.
He was not particularly sure why he decided to come. It wasn't merely a drunk's enthusiasm - though that certainly was a part of it. Something just told him it was the right path to take, one which would lead him away from whatever it is his life was destined to be back in Ochortura. He was in it for good now, unless he wished to jump off a moving, flying airship. Time would tell if following his instincts so closely was a good decision, given just how much he was risking. But then again, given his uniquely complicated backstory and situation, and the grim future - or lack thereof - of his military career, was he really risking anything at all? "Thoughts for later." He noted, dismissively.
The half-awake lieutenant checked the room for his possessions - the few he had brought with him to Ava. All seemed in order, except for his small sum of money, smaller than he remembered it to be, probably because he had to pay off his stay on Ava before leaving. As he busied himself with checking his own room, he passed by a mirror large enough to view himself with, and the sight was not very impressive. He was out of his usual military garb, at least partially so. His black boots were ill-fitted over his baggy military trousers, which were kept over the badly tied-up white shirt he wore under his noticeably missing officer's jacket. Just then, Karl realised he also had a massive headache to deal with, made worse by the unseen swaying of the airship, and the sense of unease he felt at the idea of being in an airship. He had time to panic about things later, though, and he instead set his mind on recovering.
As soon as he began to walk towards the exit, he heard distant screams from the outside, and the definitive sound of struggling and gunfire. Without much thought, he took his rifle into his hand and made sure that his bayonet was attached to it. Whatever that was, no small hangover was going to stop him from finding out. He rushed through the door and ran down the hallway, following the sound of conflict. He would, however, find some of his own, as he came across one of the large, devilish insects that were harassing the passengers, and one that apparently had taken great interest on him. As the flying creature's intent became clear, and it threatened to descend upon Karl, he blindly fired off a round into it, and the bullet grazed against its wings, which in response abruptly became unresponsive, causing the creature to collapse into the floor, and be finished off by a single precise thrust from the lieutenant's bayonet.
He did not stop to think exactly what he had just killed, as he decided that jamming another round into the breech was more important than questions at that moment. With a watchful eye, he hurriedly continued his path - perhaps there he would also find some of the faces from the night before. And maybe a "fucking glass of cold water too. My head is killing me!"
