What the hell is that?

The rumble, at this moment seemed to be a number of hadrosaurs stampeding in the direction of the ship, "Hey ah, what's going on?" Isaac called over the comms to anyone who was there to respond.

Hannah, meanwhile, had somewhat reluctantly followed Foley to look at what was coming their way, "Everyone, back onboard!" she called, racing off in the direction of the main group to signal them to get back onto the ship, "Everyone, we have incoming dinos! If you want to watch them, do it from the comfort of the ship!"

The hadrosaurs had to be stampeding for a reason. Hannah missed it because she was on the wrong side of the ship, but Foley and Jodie didn't. It was huge, bigger than the Hadrosaurs and looked like it could bite a person in half wit no particular trouble. It was also large enough to do some serious damage to the ship if it so chose... It was a T-Rex and while it had other targets in mind, there was no guarantee it wouldn't be tempted by the Icarus crew if any of them were silly enough to stay standing around outside...

Joseph Foley

“Crap!!!” Foley’s voice echoed over the beach as he spun on a heel and began running back to the ship…..though not before stopping to grab a clump of Jodie’s clothing and hauling the women in front of him. “Time to go!!!!!”

He wasn’t sure exactly how tough the onrushing carnivore and it’s stampeding prey were. The M26 rifle he had and it’s under mounted grenade launcher might have been more then enough. But he didn’t want to test that theory out now. Especially, with the number of dinosaurs on the beach.

So he pumped a burst of speed into his limbs and made a mental countdown of the distance between him and the stampede.

Zoey Wesssel

Zoey had been in the middle of a clumsy dribble when the ground began to shake. She was frowning as she hurriedly collected her sniper rifle and it’s bandoleer from a log. The boys had stopped playing and were looking around in confusion as Zoey cast a glance at Alexei.

“That feel natural to you?”

"It feels a bit -" Eleanor began before getting cut off by the wildly waving figure of the Captain yelling from close to door to the ship.

"Get back on the ship! Dino alert! Back onboard!" She yelled, darting away from the door to hurry people along, much like Foley was doing with Jodie.

The young Australian squealed as he hauled her away, but then seemed to realise the danger was was and starting running as well, flinging herself through one of the ship doors as the alarm began to blare as multiple animals came within the range of the sensors. Foley was probably the only reason she hadn't ended up crushed, eaten or both...

"Leona, let's get inside," he said as he grabbed her arm. "Something's coming, something very big."

He yelled at the group still enjoying themselves outside, those who hadn't noticed the now-growing vibrations in the earth. "Come on! Inside, everybody!"

Had she been watching from the safety of the Icarus, Leona would have just looked upon the stampeding herd of Hadrosaurs with wonder and awe. She recalled for a brief moment that one of her sons was very infatuated with dinosaurs, at least when he was still a child and preteen. Now, though, as she and Ted fled into the Icarus, she could only take small glimpses of the fleeing herbivorous reptiles, marvelling how they weren't all just scaly beasts, like the Ragons, but actually had feathers on their bodies. If only she had a camera, and were allowed to return to her own time after this entire stint is done, then... maybe she could make the scientific community scream in awe as a theory becomes truly confirmed.

Her thoughts would be dashed aside, though, when the cause of the stampede blundered into view. It was a massive monstrosity, one that would be revered by teenage boys everywhere. It was no other than Tyrannosorous Rex itself, or, as all would call it, the T-Rex.

"Oh... my... God," Leona managed, just as she found herself practically being pushed into the hangar.

At the meantime, Jean didn't waste time gawking at Hannah's warning for them to get back aboard. Common sense told him that anything 'dino alert' would be very bad for anyone caught in the path, and at this moment, quite an awful lot of the Icarus' reincarnates were right there. The Frenchman, not missing a beat, grabbed the rifle that he had placed on the golden sand and began to run. He didn't even stop to grab the grill that he had been grilling on. After all, they could always get another one, raid some Southern family's ranch and slightly inconvenience them in the process. He would catch a glimpse of Alexei quickly grabbing one Hitler Youth by the scruff of his shirt, and the other by the arm as they soon saw the incoming horde of hadrosaurs and the T-Rex chasing them. If he was watching from a safe distance behind a thousand layers of shielding, he could have found it funny how tiny the T-Rex's arms were, but now, all he had in mind was getting back to the ship's sturdy hall.

Ted Jackson

Just in time, Ted and Leona entered the relative safety of the timeship as the roars of the Tyrannosaurus Rex reverberated outside. One small part of his mind marveled at being able to see a real T-Rex, although he didn't expect it to be quite as feathery.

However, Ted noticed something else. Although Alexei had forcefully ushered the two Hitler youth towards the ship, it seems one had been left behind and was frozen in place. Ted was taken back, or rather forward, to his time scavenging through the broken ruins of humanity, crushed under the Ragon boot. There had been a child wandering around, and Ted couldn't risk getting caught. So he watched as the poor kid was snatched up by the hunting party and...

All Ted knew in that moment is that he could no longer stand by. He pulled Leona close and whispered into her ear, "I'm so sorry. I've gotta do this." Then, he kissed her urgently on the lips, before running back down the landing ramp, directly towards the petrified youth. Whether the T-Rex would take note of this new morsel was yet to be seen.

Thankfully for Ted the T-Rex didn't... mostly because, in its chase for the Hadrosaurs over the sand it managed to lose it's footing somewhat, colliding with the side of the ship with an almighty crash.

The dino righted itself, apparently having given up on the Hadrosaurs, though there was plenty of time for Ted and the youth to reach the doors before finally Hannah was able to close them with a relief, "Phew! Okay, well I am going to put some clothes on. I suspect I'll be back before the monster is gone."

"Hey ah..." Isaac's voice came in over the comms, "I'm still on the roof... I think it can smell me, but I don't think it can reach me," There was an audible sound of something large rubbing up against the hull.

"If we turn the shields on now it will fry Mr Moala," Ziggy supplied helpfully, "I would also recommend against shooting the creature to avoid drawing scavengers."

Hannah groaned, throwing her hands up in despair before turning back to the group, "Okay, bright ideas for luring a T-Rex away from the ship without any of our crew getting eaten? Personally I'd rather not end up with the ship getting trashed by a dinosaur, living the rest of my life in the Cretaceous and my fossil remnants becoming the feature in a late night conspiracy-theory TV show."

"Ted...?" Leona croaked as she watched the man that she now realized to be someone she wished to spend eternity with speed off to grab that (former) Hitler Youth away from the T-Rex's path. She remained speechless even as Ted scampered back to the ship with the kid in tow, the dinosaur meanwhile still trying to get a lock on Isaac.

Leona looked up at him, staring straight into his eyes. "I... um, didn't expect that too happen."

She wanted to yell at him for running headlong into danger. That character trait reminded her a bit of her husband, who died in a similar manner. He was being heroic all the time. Leona was proud of him, of course, but she was still devastated when that dark day came.

Right now, though, she can't afford to be furious with him, not when he had saved someone's a life, a kid's no less. "We'll... talk about it later," Leona managed as she just went ahead and hugged him as tightly as possible. "I'm just glad that you're both okay."

Meanwhile, Jean was pacing back and forth, formulating a possible plan to save Isaac. He may have been a former adversary, but he was still a person. And, ehem, given time, he may be just considered one of them as well.

A metaphorical light bulb appeared over Jean's head. "Ah! I have an idea. Ziggy, does this ship have drones of any kind anywhere? I'm thinking of putting a bunch of meat on it and then flying it away from us so that the thing can get an easier meal and we can get Isaac safely down and in. We have plenty of meat to throw, and it's not like we can just drop at some point in time to and buy meat when its still cheap."

Drones and meat. That's the best thing he could think of right now, because Icarus didn't have any weapons.

"Also, Ziggy, when we can time travel again, can we visit some, I don't know, alien shipyard and put some guns on you? If you had like, one point defense cannon, we'd already be done with the whole T-Rex thing..."

Ted Jackson

Before he knew it, Ted was back on the ship, securely in Leona’s arms as the young boy lay on the deck nearby.

“Y-yeah. I-”

The second massive crash of the T-Rex outside shook the ship, knocking the pair to the ground as both tried to protect the other from the impact. As they got up, Jean came up with an idea that got Ted’s gears turning. He dashed to the nearby device storage, where…yes!

He returned hauling a rather large boxy-looking machine alongside a flashy headset and gloves.

“Here, a haptic drone. They had these in my time.” Ted began working quickly, using a steel cable to secure a hook to the bottom of the drone. “Someone, grab some meat from the mess hall. Quickly!”

As Ted placed on the headset and gloves, both started glowing, and it seemed as if he were typing on an invisible keyboard. Then, with a start, the drone lurched a few feet upwards, and began maneuvering around the room.

“Alright”, Ted said underneath the headset. “The bait ready? I’m raring to catch me a dinosaur.”

Jean-Luc Lafayette

Jean had bolted to the mess hall when Ted found the drone and demonstrated his ability to use it. Truly, this ship has all sorts of funny machines lying around; he wouldn't be surprised if there was an actual nuclear bomb here.

Either way, he burrowed through the refrigerator, one of several that were there, and came upon several plastic wrappers with meat in them. They still had their price tags and dates of purchases printed on them; no matter how long they seemed to be here (they came from the future, from whatever time the SITR came from), they looked so very fresh. And so, he rapidly tore up the plastic wrappers with his bare hands; such a skill was necessary for scavenging through a post-apocalyptic hellscape.

He returned as fast as he could, slapping the meat around the drone. "There! The bait has been placed. Let's hope that the big guy likes easier meals than ones it can't reach."

Joseph Foley

Foley hadn’t paused once he made sure the whole of the crew had been secured aboard the Icarus. Or most of the crew at least…..

He hadn’t waited to hear the crew’s possible solutions. Clomping off to his favorite spot on the ship, the armory, to get his favorite problem solver.

He returned as the group was tying the meat to the drone. A possible solution; though Foley didn’t return his contribution. Instead the operator removed the weapon from the sling and took a knee to insert the HEDP warhead. The MK.153 SMAW was factory fresh and the jangling of spare rounds stuffed in a satchel jangled through the bay.

He realized that he was getting some looks.

“What?” He shrugged while shouldering the weapon. “Plan B.”

He turned his gaze to Hannah to see if her expression was amused or annoyed with his antics; typically the usual reactions she had for him recently.

Hannah gave him a curious glance then also shrugged, "Fair enough, we don't want dino scavengers roaming around the ship, but that beats the T-Rex destroying it. Head over to the docking ramp, if things get hairy, I'll give you the signal."

"Ted," she turned to the man with the drone plan, "You won't be able to get much meat on that drone so I hope you're a good pilot. Put it right in front of the bugger's nose. Also... give me one moment..."

She raced off to the medical bay, returning less than a minute later with a refrigerated blood bag marked 'Hannah B - Do not use on anyone else' in bold letters.

"I can't take a blood transfusion from any of you," she explained, "So I occasionally give blood to the medical bay, just in case I ever need one. Given the amount of times people have shot at me recently, it seems like good insurance."

"Anyway, I figured pouring a splash of blood on your steak will help get our dino's nostrils tingling."

“Oh for the love of…. Move!!” He bumped Hannah out of the way while grabbing for the slab of meat. His other hand withdrew his knife and slashed across the back of his forearm. Deep enough to elicit blood without scarring… hopefully.

Either way it was minor compared a lot of his previous wounds; including Berlin. He bit down on his grimace and instead sprinkled a healthy dollop of crimson over the meat before he gave the now baited bait back to Hannah.

“No need to waste special blood for bait.” He offered. The operator slapping a bandage over his newest wound before shouldering the launcher and ambling down to the hangar bay.

"That's 'oh for the love of... Captain'," Hannah corrected with what, for a moment looked like a frostily raised eyebrow, then went up on her tip-toes to give Foley a quick kiss on the cheek before adding, matter-of-factly, taking him by his uninjured arm, "Come, lets get a bandage and antiseptic on this. I don't know what kind of primeval infections you can get in this environment and I don't intend to find out. Ted, you're in charge of the drone. Lead it away, slowly, and then Isaac can get off the roof. If we need to shoot it, lets at least make sure it's a bit away from the ship - I don't want to meet any Cretaceous scavengers."

"If there are any problems, call over comms, I'll be in the medical bay," she said, tucking the blood bag under her elbow.

“And who will be shooting the dino for Plan B?” Foley didn’t move down the corridor yet. Even if Hannah’s tugging was growing more insistent. He also fought down the smirk that threatened to pop on his face from Hannah’s peck.

Instead, he fixed his gaze down at the Captain.

“I doubt a bacteria can kill me faster then we can fix it…. I also highly doubt any of the crew can make use of this.”

He gave a jangle of the SMAW and his ruck of ammunition.

Hannah gave a quizzical smile before adding, "My Dear Mr Foley, I fear you are still thinking in your own time. Directed-Energy Weapons - blasters - would melt that dinosaurs face and Jean is more than capable of firing one of them... heck so is Leona I'd imagine... the kids might even do okay."

"You, on the other hand, should probably still be resting up from Berlin. You have already saved Jodie's ass, you don't need to carry the world on your shoulders -" which was a little ironic coming from Hannah, "- Let me fix your arm up. Captain's orders."

"Ted!" She called, raising her voice to carry to anyone nearby, "Let's get that drone in the air and Isaac off the roof. Save our engineer: I'd rather not get stuck in the cretaceous forever!"

Hannah & Foley
(Cowritten by the United Federation of Terrans and Dyelli Beybi)

It had taken a no small effort for Hannah to “drag” the operator into the medbay. The man in question following in her wake grudgingly; though he made no effort to remove her grip on his arm.

Still, his stony expression had a slight set of annoyance to his chin as he plopped down onto a bed. His magazines and equipment jangling against the ruck of rockets he still carried despite the SMAW having been left in the cargo bay.

Hannah pulled up a chair next to him then rummaged around for a set of butterfly stitches having decided the wound wasn't deep enough to warrant the real thing and a bottle of antiseptic which she began to dab lightly to the cut. She worked silently for a few moments before speaking up in a humorously gruff voice that was presumably meant to be Foley, "Captain, you're looking incredibly attractive today, bur you're fussing too much over me."

She paused, then switched to a high pitched voice that was presumably meant to be her, "Why yes Mr Foley I am," she gave an affected giggle, "But it's the way I show people how that I care about them and I still feel bad about the business in Berlin," she looked up, dropping the silly voices, "We knew the risks, but it wasn't flawless and it's my job to be in the front of this. We're chasing this guy through time and for what? Protect the timeline? I've turned everyone into temporal vigilantes and I couldn't say I really understand Blackmore's endgame... but I can fix up your arm."

“You shouldn’t feel bad about Berlin….” A slight pause as the familiar burn of antiseptic flooded his wound. “… The bullets were blind and the grenade….. Well I took that one for you willingly.” It was matter of fact in his delivery. Though he did give a glance around the med bay as if to check if the coast was clear. “Though I won’t complain about the new nurse outfit.” He had leaned in to whisper that into her ear with a sly grin, “Might have to get wounded more often if your fretting over me dressed like that all the time.”

He thought it was smooth. Though it probably wasn’t given his missed signals up till yesterday. So he did what he did best. Got physical. He used his good arm to push an unruly strand of hand behind her ear; hand lingering in her cheek.

Hannah gave a small, throaty laugh, a slight flush creeping into her cheeks, "Well if you want to play Doctors and Nurses I think I know where the stethoscope is -" the comment was interrupted by another loud thud that echoed through the hall. She wrinkled her nose up, "Maybe we should wait a few minutes for that." Despite the imminent danger, she leaned across and kissed him anyway, arching her back slightly to be sure she didn't press down on Foley's injured arm.

The operator’s good hand carded through her hair; a ghostly tracing as he sketched a feeling down her shoulder blade. He might have continued if not for the mysterious thudding from the cargo bay. Where a T-Rex, a rocket launcher and Ted were all in close proximity. He pulled away reluctantly and stood with a suppressed groan of still-healing scars. “A rain check then….. but you owe me dinner.” He made to leave but decided to allow himself one last impulse before slipping back into professionalism. He bent down and pressed a kiss to the hollow of her throat. Erin had always seemed to enjoy that move. Hannah gave a small gasp, closing her eyes. She was definitely looking flushed when Foley stepped back. Apparently she did as well. “Back to work ma’am?” Foley offered while withdrawing to a “respectable” distance.

Hannah bit her lip, "I mean we could always just work on the assumption Ted can deal with it and not get ready to throw ourselves onto hand grenades or out air locks?" She suggested, paused for a heartbeat then laughed, shaking her head, "I'll pull some clothes on so I look a bit more 'Captainly'. You go and slap the lad into decisive activity if we don't have a drone up yet."

“Yes ma’am.” He left with a smirk touching his face and the persistent burning of his new wound.

He was looking forward to tonight.

Ted Jackson

Getting into the software was the easy part. He'd worked with all sorts of tech like this back in his old line of work, and even afterwards while scavenging. It had, however, been a while since he'd flown a hoverdrone. The device slowly and shakily lifted off the deck as Ted lifted his hands as if he were praising some forgotten god. Slowly hovering out the door, the meat attached to the bottom. Ted looked around through the eyes of the drone for the massive beast menacing the Icarus.

He saw the Polynesian man, Isaac, waving up towards the drone frantically.

"Don't worry, we'll get you out of there," Ted's voice crackled through the speakers equipped on the drone. This did not stop the man's frantic gestures, as he pointed wildly to the left. "Wait, wha-WHOA!"

The drone tilted and spun wildly as the T-rex swung the piece of meat in its mouth, then flung it towards the treeline. The device hit a trunk with a loud CLUNK, and Ted fought to keep the drone upright. Slowly but steadily, the battered drone hovered back towards the T-rex, now fully focused on the delicious potential flying meal in front of it. After leading the drone a far enough distance away, Ted took off the headset and ran outside.

"Isaac! Come back down, you're in the clear!"

After this ordeal, Ted thought he deserved a nice long rest. Preferably with the company of his favorite doctor.

Hannah emerged a few minutes later, now wearing a tank top and cargo pants - practically her uniform, "Did I miss something?" she asked, though before anyone had a chance to respond, Isaac reappeared, looking a little shaken from his time spent hiding from the dinosaur.

Jodie, flung herself at him, just about knocking the taller man from his feet, "Whoa! Okay! Thanks for the save... now shall we move this ship somewhere safer?"

Hannah paused for a moment, then shook her head, "I'm not sure what will be safer, if I'm honest. We had a T-Rex, but if we put down somewhere else we could end up with some other monster from Jurassic Park, or some creature yet unknown to science. I'm actually in favour of sticking around, provided our unwanted visitor doesn't come back." She paused a moment, tapping her lip thoughtfully, "Does anyone here think we can rig up some kind of sensor so we can get back on the ship before something big appears?" she asked.

Isaac nodded from over Jodie's head. She still hadn't let go of him, which was probably more to do with the fact they were the only two from their ship than any romantic attraction... "I think we can, though I might need a hand from Ted and it will slow the process down a bit."

Hannah gave a snort of laughter, "That's okay. Time is the one thing we aren't short on."

Foley gave a reluctant sigh as he hefted the SMAW; unshouldering the launcher.

“We’ll that’s one crisis down.” He gave a stretch and a pop of his shoulders. He scratched his stubble with an offhand as Hannah reappeared, dressed this time. Then the y brought up the debate of a new landing zone vs the T-Rex plagued one they had just left.

“I could always just wait on top with this contraption…. or maybe one of those blasters you’re so fond of.” He said that last part to Hannah, a tad of fake outrage in his voice. “I can slow any Dino’s down and definitely make the jump down if they get too close.”

Ted was exhausted from the Cretaceous excursion and the near-death experience that it entailed. But more importantly, he needed to apologize to Leona and explain himself. He owed her far more , but this was the least he could do.

"Uh, Leona?" Ted said to the doctor quietly. "Can I, ah...talk to you for a bit?"

Leona looked up to him with a muted but cheery smile. She tapped the couch she was sitting on with her hand. "Yes, of course."

Ted sighed and rubbed his temples.

"I...wanted to say sorry, for the stunt I pulled back there. I wasn't thinking about the crew, about myself, I was stuck in the past and couldn't get over myself and how I still thought there was nothing left for me and..."

Those words tumbled out of Ted's mouth like a rockslide, but he caught himself and breathed deeply.

"What I wanna say is...I realize now that there is something important left for me," he continued, resolve in his voice this time. "The mission, the crew, the timeline, and...well...you."

"Heh, me, eh?" Leona asked, seemingly bewildered. She then gently pinched him on the shoulder, laughing as she did. "Well! You have to promise not to do any more stunts again, okay? And uh... yeah. You're also... important. To me. I suppose I wasn't sure what this was. Not now either... I'm still not sure."

Truth be told, she was also hung up with the past. She had a husband. To her, it felt like it had been just a year since he died of old age, with herself following several weeks after he did.

"And the mission, the crew, and the timeline, too, of course," Leona added. "Important. To me."

"Hah. Glad to hear you say that, I'm not really sure either," Ted replied. "We're not exactly like the other lovebirds."

Ted pondered for a second.

"We're both, in the most literal sense, old souls. We don't love in the same way as everyone else, but...I believe that this kind of love just as strong, if not stronger."

Finally, after avoiding Leona's gaze since the start of their chat, he looked into her eyes with a strange determination.

"So if it's alright with you, I'd want to explore further what we have between us."

Leona's hand shot down towards Ted's, wrapping her fingers in his. "Of course... Teddy. We can do the mission and... this at the same time. Let's see where the tides of time take us, yeah?"

"Whatever you feel most comfortable with using," Hannah replied, "Which would probably be the big hoofer-doofer you are carting around," she paused momentarily before adding, "We used to have something called the 'M26' that I used to carry around in the subway. Military left plenty lying around and the Ragons just left them lying around. Good for chasing off raiders if not alien hunters... but I much prefer the blasters, that old rifle used to kick like a Cassowary bird... have a play with the blasters if you are feeling bored. There's no recoil."

"Also, if you're up for some minor distractions, I'll keep you company. Sun bathing works as well on top of the ship or in the sand!" she declared.

Thankfully, there were no more T-Rex attacks, though Jodie succeeded in getting a small green ornithopod to follow her around. The thing was two legged, just over a metre long and could run very fast when spooked... which didn't take a great deal. It seemed to be a herbivore with a particular love of potato chips. Jodie had named it 'Earl' for some reason and, to Hannah's consternation, encouraged the creature onto the ship at times.

The work progressed well and two weeks later, Isaac was finished...

"All good to go?" Hannah asked over the comms as she paced back and forth next to the time drive. The usually glowing crystalline structure at the heart was dull and extinguished, as it had been since the explosion had knocked them back in time. Hopefully though, soon, everything would be back online and they would be able to move the ship when they needed. Perhaps it would be wise to move forward to some time when there weren't gigantic predators roaming these parts?

"One moment," Isaac responded from the roof, paused, "Okay... turn it on."

Hannah said a quick prayer then pressed the button on the side of the console. There was a pause, then a whirring noise, then the crystaline structure blazed into life. She gave a whoop of joy, "We're in business! Anyone know if we have any champagne on the ship?" she called over comms, "Because we're back in business!"

Before there was a chance for anyone to respond though, an alarm started sounding from the console, "HAL! What is that?" she asked.

A moment later the disembodied nasal voice of the computer replied, cheerfully, "That is a temporal distress call emanating from the town of Coober Pedy in Australia in the year 2133. A time ship has become trapped and is in need of assistance."

"So far every other time ship we've encountered has been the enemy," Hannah grumbled, "Though if this alarm is legit, and not a trap, this could give us an opportunity to get the jump on one of their crews."

"I would advise caution in approaching the ship... however, it seems improbable that this would be a trap. There are too many potential ways to approach this problem. It would make watching for the Icarus a difficult prospect." Ziggy replied.

Hannah nodded, then reached for the comms again, "Alright everyone. Good news, the ship is working. Bad news, we have a signal to investigate straight away. We're heading for Australia in the year 2133. So grab your stuff and get onboard. We lift off as soon as we're all ready!"

Ted Jackson

The last two weeks had been bliss. At least, bliss compared to his old life. He still had his responsibilities on the ship - after all, the more complex a piece of code it, the faster it finds a way to break itself. The Icarus had the most complex code he had ever seen, and the most demanding of maintenance. But he finally had someone to share himself with, to laugh and eat and be merry with, and (if all was well) someone to hold at night. Things were looking up for Ted Jackson.

As the time drive finally came alive like a massive beast awakening from hibernation, Ted joined the cheers from the rest of the crew and stood up from his console where he was facilitating the repairs.

A moment later the disembodied nasal voice of the computer replied, cheerfully, "That is a temporal distress call emanating from the town of Coober Pedy in Australia in the year 2133. A time ship has become trapped and is in need of assistance."

The wide smile Ted had on his face melted away, along with all the color in his face.

2133 was a year that went from bad to worse to horrible. His settlement was going through harsh conditions, with power and food being rationed due to a lack of resources to repair the generators. Not to mention getting his species hunted down by Ragons and him having to scavenge for each little scrap like an insect. The thought of returning sent panic shooting down his spine.

"2133? This isn't in...our timeline, is it?"

Jean had been on constant guard over the last two weeks. The Tyrannosaurus Rex deciding to take a shot at the time travelling ship had been a sobering experience, and he would be standing around with a radar scanner and anti-material rifle at hand, banking on the weapon to blow up any attacking therapod's brain should T-Rex or Spinosaurus come about to disturb their day and try to eat someone. Fortunately, nothing of this caliber happened again. Peaceful herbivorous dinosaurs would be all they'd see until the time drive was finally repaired by the collective efforts of the engineers amongst them, though it was mostly Isaac, really.

A moment later the disembodied nasal voice of the computer replied, cheerfully, "That is a temporal distress call emanating from the town of Coober Pedy in Australia in the year 2133. A time ship has become trapped and is in need of assistance."

Jean had just come into the engine room when Ziggy had made this announcement. He shook his head, remembering that 2133 was smack dab in the middle of the Ragon occupation of Earth. Or really, the domestication of Earth, given that they were using the sapient inhabitants as cattle and were seeding the planet with their own homeworld's fauna and flora.

"Any... additional details, Ziggy?" Jean asked, running his hands together as if he was freezing in the winter, though the room wasn't too cold to begin with. "Starting with... how did they get trapped? Did a Ragon warship damage their ship?"

"Maybe some of those emus entered the ship and waged war on them," Alexei jokingly said from a nearby corner. The tanker had been spry for the last few days, spending his time playing sports in the entertainment area. It was mostly football with the boys that they plucked from Berlin.

It took him another second to read the room, and looked down on the floor. "Obviously not the case..."

Leona quickly came to the rescue as she came to Ted's side, wrapping her arm around his in a not-so-subtle display. "I don't think it is. Didn't we talk about how we're in a third timeline? Ted, Hannah, and Jean are from the first one, where Ragons killed everyone. I'm from the second, apparently, where things went well for humanity. The third one... well, that's what we're finding out now, right? Maybe they just... got shot down by planetary defences? We had those in 2133. Planetside railguns, that kind of stuff."

"In this timeline the planet Ysier was destroyed around 1 million years ago, shortly before the war between an Unknown species and the genetically altered homo antecessor thralls that would evolve into the dhasath," Ziggy put in, "Information is not good for this period as movements that far in time can be imprecise and dangerous. In this timeline the Carter expedition encountered Kiellar Command locked in a struggle with the Dhasath League. After the fall of Kiellar Command, the League launched a Crusade into the Milky Way Galaxy. Earth fell but the Crusade rapidly lost steam when it encountered the Federation of Civilised Worlds. The period we are about to enter is a period of flux and large scale revolt that proceeds the League's evacuation of the planet. Unfortunately, information on this period is also sparse."

Nobody had ever said that was what a Dhasath was before. Hannah considered it. That was... better than she'd thought. In essence earth was still her planet...

"Aliens, it seems love to mess with humonid DNA," Hannah put in wryly, "So, if I'm understanding it right, some funny aliens abducted early hominids and modified them, they evolved into my Great Grandfather. Then some Ragons found a bit of surviving dhasath DNA in me and modified me into the full-blown creature. Then Blackmore blew up Ysier... for some reason," she shrugged expansively, "And now I'm going back to my own time, but now my Great Grandfather's people haven't gone extinct but are trying to conquer multiple galaxies and if the locals have some way to detect dhasath then I'm going to look like an alien occupier in disguise," Hannah groaned, leaning back against the console, "Oh well, can't be helped... though I'm guessing most dhasath don't speak English with a New York accent or have a working knowledge of the subway," she gave a small laugh, "Come to think of it, if they don't have a scanner, it would be harder for me to pass off as dhasath if such a thing were necessary. I think I'll be fine!"

Joseph Foley

The couple of weeks since the T-Rex attack had passed by without any further complications. Foley and Jean swapping off the ad hoc watch post atop the ship; in case any predators decided to test their new location.

Yet, none came. The operator was grateful at first for the silence. His body healing from the trials of Berlin; the redness of his scars and the soreness of his body fading with each day. The crew ventured out again to enjoy the sand; the boys becoming more used to their new circumstances. The youth playing in the beach and braving the waves in youthful games lost on their elders. The Russian tanker often keeping a watchful eye if not outright joining in.

Then there were the moments with Hannah. The captain climbing to the top of the ship to catch a few rays of sun in her spare time. Or on his night watches when she would point out the prehistoric constellations with a glitter in her eye that rivaled the panorama she was highlighting. The fewer moments when he wasn’t on watch and she tugged him into her cabin with a sly grin….

The memory of last night had the operating smiling as he tripped back to the armory from his latest shift. But even the giddiness couldn’t overshadow the latest feeling he had; the all too familiar sensation that had kept him on deployment after deployment. Restlessness. Boredom. Monotony

He was almost glad when Hannah came over the comms. He detoured to Engineering; pinging the hatch open and sliding through the doorway with his usual silent step that belied his size and equipment. The suspects, those working round clock in the engine or whatever was broken, were all present. His gaze however was on a certain short Captain.

“How heavy we going?” He came to a sudden halt next to Hannah. Face professional even as he one of his hands tugged on a belt loop.
