Theyra wrote:So I got an idea for a rp, it is an alt-history. Basically, it would be about the aftermath of a brutal civil war of a nation and the nation trying to rebuild itself. While dealing with the lingering problems that the nation had before the civil war and some new ones. The rp would be set either in the 1960s, 1970s or the 1990s. As for what nation this would be. I got four ideas.
Gran Colombia - that stayed together and underwent a dictatorship before a revolution took place and ousted the dictatorship. Starting the path to rebuilding while dealing with both old and new problems.
Transcaucasian Democratic Federative Republic - that survived and found itself becoming a proxy in the cold war despite being neutral. Found itself dealing with a communist uprising that while quelled. Left a major impact on that nation as it tries to rebuild while remaining watchful of any more possible threats to the nation.
An alt-history nation in the middle east - A united rebellion that ousted the reigning government after years of corruption. That while they won, the rebellion groups try to form a new government and rebuild the nation but, the different ideals of the rebel leaders causes friction among them that might if left unresolved. Could cause a new civil war.
An alt-history nation in southeast Asia - No sure what exactly yet.
Anyone interested in this and could maybe help me with it?

Well, I am leaning towards the Transcaucasian Democratic Federative Republic aka the united Caucasus. That was my first idea even if the nation only lasted a month in real life. Though Gran Columbia might be more interesting to people. Which are you leaning towards?

I mean, Transcaucasian Democratic Federative Republic, but its gonna be difficult finding non-communist caucasian politicians in any period bar the 90s.

I absolutely love this idea, but it would be hard to pull off convincingly. After all, the world of 2016 is not particularly exotic or mysterious to us, and arguably those are where the strength of portal fiction lies.
You’ll need to craft a really compelling plot to compensate for the familiar setting, I feel.

But isn't that the point of it being reversed? People from a fantasy world transported to our world, that means that our world is not new to us, but the characters and their outlooks are, and I think it would be really interesting to see something like that.

Alright, I'll try to get on researching important caucasian non-communist figures. Assuming this is set in the 60s or 70s, any emigre community might be a good bet.

Thanks, and yes to the time period. We could just make some up important figures if we can't find any that would work. Also, you want to discuss this by telegram or discord?

Dayganistan wrote:Just to jump in on this, if you're looking for reasons for a civil war it doesn't have to be political. A unified state of Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan is going to have ethnic conflict regardless of when you set it since these are all people who are of different ethnicity, different culture, speak different languages from completely different linguistic families, and have different religions. It has the potential to be real nasty in terms of ethnic violence, and IRL it did devolve into that before anyone had even left the Soviet Union. And in the 1990s, well there were plenty of real life figures in the region that either weren't communists to begin with, or shifted away from communism when it became acceptable to do so as the Soviet Union fell apart.

I'd say they are decently popular, a fair amount of people find the idea of RPing slice of life moments appealing. However, it's difficult to maintain some forward momentum when that isn't done within the context of something else, so roleplays dedicated fully to slice of life have a tendency to stagnate.
