The stress of the economic crisis, the riposting relief bills ricocheting between the parties, and the presidential nomination had come down on Buster's shoulders like a sack of bricks. A day-long mini-vacation had seemed justified, allowing the Californian to clear his head. He spent the morning at his D.C. pad training along to CrossFit videos, unleashing some of his frustration and energy in a healthy way, and then enjoyed a day in with his husband, before an hour-long meditation session prior to bed. The next morning, he awoke feeling vivified and calm.

But a legion of Twitter notifications and a summons to Rafael Navarro's office brought the crushing weight back to his shoulders just as quickly.

Buster took deep, calming breaths as he strolled into the foyer, executing one-by-one the well-practiced anxiety prevention routines he knew. Raph had been a friend to him even before he set foot on Capitol Hill, and though he was sure his colleague would never raise his voice against him, he knew that this meeting was not to exchange good news. The secretary ushered him to Raph's office in short order, and Buster managed a friendly, if fleeting, smile as he came in.

"H— Hey, Raph," he greeted sheepishly, lifting the biodegradable bag slightly higher to show his friend. The delicious and hearty scent of fresh chimichangas filled the room as Buster set their lunch on the desk, falling into the chair opposite.

Still, he accepted the lunch and went to open up his wrapper, humming softly after he took a bite. "They're good, but they always get the crema wrong."

I have no problem endorsing you. As for my Husband, well he seems to have retired from politics for better or worst for the time being, but I'll see what I can do."

"Well, that's, that's wonderful," Jason said with a sigh, "I appreciate it a lot. The people will appreciate keeping a real conservative in the seat instead of a rabid Porterite. Thank you, Mrs. Wolf. Have a good day. I'm always here if you need me for anything."

After Eliza hung up, Jason headed to the Senate offices and knocked on the door of Everitt Colbert.

Colbert's secretary keep Evander waiting for a minute while she looked him up on Wikipedia. When the result came in, she sent him in to Colbert's office.
"Representative... Evander is it? From South Dakota? Come on in."

Although it was generally unlikely that the Wolf cubs would generally have any reason to call his office, at least before the President’s diagnosis, Thomas had made sure that any of their calls would be connected straight through to him.

"Good to speak to you, Minority Leader." He scratched the back of his head. "Things are going pretty swimmingly on our end. We're essentially a lock for the seat at this point. Just have to keep up the momentum until November."

"Listen, I have to talk to you about some of the comments made by a Representative or two in your caucus regarding the uh... conspiracies my brother is peddling."

“Yes, I noticed Congressman Ruler’s tweet recently following your brother’s recent comments. Is there anything that you would like me to do regarding it?.” Volker asked politely.

I can’t be in public too much, it’s dangerous. Thank you, Grover, for your trust. I put my trust in you also. You will be a great President.”

Grover who is slightly disappointed sighs quietly "That's ok, safety comes first. Well, that's all folks, my interview, and discussion with the son of the former president..." Grover stands up and shouts "Wallace Wolf!! Goodnight everybody!" The cameras turn off as the ending music plays.

The picture of Gabriel, Buster's husband, was obscured by an endless list of unopened notifications. "I just can't bring myself to open anything," Buster explained, now rocking slightly back and forth. He looked at the senior Senator hopefully. "I was hoping... hoping you could explain it to me." And calm me down.

And after ending his conversation with Richardson, Porter picked up the phone.

"Hello, Crawford." Porter, despite being much younger than many of his colleagues, had a very fatherly voice. He clearly had a sense of love for Congressman Clay, like a father with his son. It was clear, from his almost affective and familial voice, that he was a man who knew he was going to die without a family, and so had begun to treat his friends and allies like one. "What can I do for you?"

Bernie's tone brought a smile to his face as he remembered fishing in the frigid lake in Illinois... The corners of his mouth slowly turned downward as his thoughts turned to the choice he had to make.

"Well... Bernie, I'm askin' for your blessing." Honesty was the best policy. "Your blessing to endorse Nate Richardson." Clay left it at that; to expound any further would only cheapen the sincerity and the pain of his words.

Clay crossed the fingers of his right hand for good luck.

Before I intervened in the primary, I met with both Senator Dayton and Senator Murphy, and..." He rubbed the back of his neck. "Levi threatened me with a challenge to my re-election if I didn't back him. He conducts himself like a mob boss."

"Good to hear you too, Warrick. I don't mean to get in your way, with the stimulus work and all that, but I wanted to talk about some of the conspiracies my brother and some Republican Senators have been throwing around. They've been really bothering me."

"They've been bothering me too Mr. Wolf, i've spoken to some privately but honestly right now any public acknowledgement from me is just going to inflame people. The only people who can truly put out this fire are yourself, your sister, and President Wolf... Tell me how is he doing?"

"I'll have to make some sort of statement on it, for sure, and have a very long talk with Wallace."

He thought of a response, "Dad's doing about as well as he has been... Pardon my language, but this shit hurts, you know? I'm sometimes sitting here asking 'why, God?'. I know he has a plan for him, and I know he'll be in a better place in the end, but I watched him work so hard to get to the point he got, I was rooting for him every step of the way, then he finally achieves it, and then this all happens."
