The Us army has not wanting to be out done by the rest of the services, has decided to cease discharging gay soldiers and pretty much ignore the law.
I applaud this action. The oath taken when joining the military makes ignoring blatantly unconstitutional laws like "don't ask don't tell" a duty for each and ever solider. I hope the military renders the repeal of Don't ask don't tell a moot point, and solely a symbolic gesture.

The military did return gitmo to Cuba just a few hours ago and pulled out of a about 200 overseas bases against the president's orders.

Gay rights/ Abortion rights ETC are authoritarian vs libertarian.
A lot of the military has a libertarian mind set (mind the lower case l).
