Well, I'm apolitical, but I've really enjoyed my time here so far, nobody has really been mean to me, and everyone is fairly nice for the most part, but to be fair, I don't stick my nose in every single topic, so maybe if I had more topic variety, I'd find something unpleasant, but I digress. It's cool here. :)

Let's go talk about and maybe list some actual cliches used in nations, shall we? I mean, the last thread's gonna get pruned, and as such we now have a large well of actual cliches used by some nations here.

Cliche: nations that are simply the Roman Empire or a variant of it.

Oh god. I've seen so many Roman-Related nations in II, sometimes I would simply see them argue on which one owns Rome's landmass because both of them claim that they're Rome.

I'm more confused to as why one can't go for the "other Rome" - that being Byzantium.

I had a map of Byzantine Gothia, but since actual earth RPs tend to get messy I removed it. It wasn’t the exact same size as the Byzantines, with more by Crimea and less in the Middle East, but it was meant to be a continuation of it. But I don’t understand why people would want to NOT pick the Roman WITH flamethrowers.

Cliche: everything is political, so politics must be injected in everything

Because Rome under the Principate has a bigger presence in popular culture?

I mean people do post non-political topics in NSG, it is the board for all OOC stuff outside of discussion of media.

Sure, it is obvious that political discussions dominate NSG and you could argue that maybe the NS staff should split NSG into two separate boards:
- A board specifically for political discussions
- A board for everything else (outside of media cuz that already has its own board)

Of course that'll likely never happen because the mods have said many times that Max doesn't want to split the boards up more.

RPs that have things like cosmic and interdimensional threats at the center of their plot: they are usually open to all and all techs, but will only end up attracting intergalactic empires or nations that can travel in space. At this point, why not limit these RPs directly to FT?
In fact, so far I have seen nations with lower tech than MT participate only with "We see strange lights in the sky. Our governments are very worried".

Without some sort of tech restriction rps tend to fly out the window. At least anything involving fights or competitions, character rp can still work depending on the characters powers.

Yes, but I'm not referring to the restriction on tech, though. What I'm talking about are those RPs that are practically Stellaris' mid-game crises.
Obviously they can only cope with nations capable of sending more spacecraft into space. It is a little more difficult for others to participate, even if it is allowed.

aikoland is ran by the same person behind gandoor????????? wow so surprising!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In all seriousness, I do wonder how some people haven't caught on to that, considering these two nations have many in common (constantly rotating OOC flag and a rather similar demeanour)

Whaaa!? Really?! I'm shocked!

That aside, cliche; Space age nations 'need' to have insanely powerful militaries, and I don't just mean powerful, overpowered. It's a bit less believable, in my opinion.

i would not all be surprised if it comes from people only looking at very surface level stuff and making assumptions about the person behind the account based on that

like it's so common for people to guess that i must be french or at the very least have french ancestry when i post with this nation in the 'how do you imagine AN IRL' thread and, for gandoor, it's so common for people to guess that i must be japanese or korean

I've never looked at either past the flags, but I also never made the French connection for aiko.

I both never cared and also never noticed that. Then again it doesn't really matter.

Hey, that's a new cliche: caring a little too much about users to the point of calling them out on their puppets/alts.

its always nice to know who's who
i personally don't like mistaking people for other people because i just feel bad about getting them mixed up
also, some people have used puppets to doublepost on people before, kinda nice when you can point it out and call them out, especially if they're continuously doing it.

i genuinely cannot imagine caring if someone replies to someone who just replied to them, unless they're one of those dips who does it constantly and doesn't let anyone else reply

but if it's just a one time thing? i really couldn't care less tbh, shit i'll do it myself if a thread is going to die because i'd rather actually participate in the game vs just posting 'bump' tbh.

Honestly I do care a little less if somebody doubleposts in a thread, but if somebody is doing that many times in a row, then it just comes off as a little spammy. Though don't quite see it that way as much when it's a "sillier" thread.

Not a fan of spammy posters personally.

It's much more preferable to not care about it all together. Despite me being hypocritical in having actually bothered caring about it a couple of times. I get why, though. Not to put myself on a high horse, if it appears as such.
