I’m guilty of this, I wanted to make a Chinese island nation so I Google translated, “round island”, turns out my nation actually means something like “tennis tournament” in Chinese LOL.

That just comes from the rather childish viewpoint that rules of war were enforced on generals rather than specifically being their own idea. When you posit that "war has no rules" or that some bureaucrats in the Hague just sat and brainstormed on "how do we make fighting a war harder?" to make the rules of war, you end up with the rather stupid conclusion that the side that doesn't follow rules of war wins.

What do you mean that my epic plan to have my soldiers fake surrender then shot everyone will only work once and mean that future surrendering soldiers are much more likely to just be shot? Or that my awesome tactics of killing all surrendering enemy soldiers will just make them fight to the death and cause me to take many more losses. Or that killing enemy doctors doesn't really effect the enemy army currently in the flied and means that they have less doctors to treat my wounded?
