The Caleshan exist in a state of constant internal competition on the micro and macro scale, and the linchpin to this is a system known as the 'Demopol'. The Demopol is a form of real-time rating system that ascribes a value to the amount of influence that any single citizen might possess. Any time somebody works overtime, or comports themselves in a polite and sociable manner, or otherwise works to improve the lives of those around them, they are rated by their peers in a positive light. Whenever somebody shirks their duty, acts rudely, or harms others for personal gain in some other way, their rating is affected adversely. Depending on their current position, a significant negative rating can have... lethal consequences.
Government by socialist credit, eh? Certainly a unique concept.
