I think is story is apocryphal but I remember reading once someone used evolutionary logic to program a FPGA to do some basic math, and then when forwarding the program to a new FPGA it stopped working, the program was using the particular crosstalk between gates to influence the logic. Probably not true, but I liked the idea! OLIVR having optimized the code to the point that no human could understand it, it was running pure metal.
