Many have reasoned that their impressive tale stems from an even more ancient legend. Some speculate that it's due to their bloodline.
They don't appear in person all too much. They, instead, use two magical dolls to interact with the public most of the time.
Lately, they have steadily changed this, though they are still always with their dolls when they interact with the public.

Sounds like something out of a visual novel. And it's well-made!

The film you're about to see is a lost treasure of the Old World, thought to have been lost for countless generations, until our fellows at the Tacoma Guild of Archaeologists miraculously found a well-preserved copy of it in an old archive. Even then, it took months of effort on the part of all of us here at the Midnight Sun Film Society..."

As he continued, Marcus couldn't help feel that he was underselling things. Everything he said was true, yes, but not the whole picture. Then again, he supposed it would be impossible to ever capture in simple words the sheer excitement he felt when Jules, his friend in archaeology, told him about their discovery. He also couldn't find time to reminisce about the many points during the restoration when they came close to giving up, or the moment they realized that they were actually going to be able to finish the process. Part of him thought that maybe if one of his other fellows had been chosen to give this speech, they'd be able to express such things. After all, Marcus was only chosen because he did the most work on the restoration, not because he was their most eloquent speaker.

However, as Marcus began to bring his speech to a close, he felt the air of anticipation in the theater grow stronger, and a thought came to him. One of the greatest strengths of film was the ability to capture emotions in ways that didn't involve words. With the right combination of acting, editing, and mise-en-scène, it was possible to convey things that would never be able to be expressed through words alone. Likewise, him being on this stage, pouring his heart into every line of his speech, allowed him to express his experience to the audience in a way not quite as powerful as a movie, but still better than just words alone.

As he said the final lines of his speech, Marcus couldn't help but think about how much it all meant to him.

"Alright, I think I've rambled on for long enough, so allow me to say what I've been waiting to say for the past few months: sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!"

With a final bow, Marcus stepped off the stage as the audience applauded, joining his fellows in the Midnight Sun Film Society in the audience. They barely had time to commend him on his speech before the lights in the theater dimmed, and a hush of anticipation washed over everything.

First, the screen lit up with the logo of a long-dead film company, and the speakers came to life with its musical fanfare.

Then, for the first time in countless generations, the following words were projected onto a movie screen:

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away....

This kind of hits a little hard for me. Considering Star Wars would be considered one of the 'old classics' in the future, and that it'd be public domain or even marked as an important part of history gives you a perspective on the age of things...

Early in its still-inexistent-lore history just after successfully gaining independence from the Soviet Union, Uthossia was supposed to be a federal state, but due to a turn of unknown events, the government went for unitary instead. Uthossia never changed its full name though, and the "Socialist" part still stays true to this day.

They have a shared origin and ancestors, yet they've passed through several periods of cultural isolation, where different ideas and cliques formed over time, and therefore deserve to be differentiated.

Firstly, let me say that this entire factbook is absolutely stunning, but I have yet to see a nation putt this much depth into a foreword, let alone the lore and detail involved with the rest of it, I envy your commitment

I'm trawling through my factbooks to "translate" them into Altglish, and I realize that it might be a chore dealing with the overwhelming number of weird-sounding words, so I've decided to compile translations for some of the words I'm using to overset real English words. It is obvious that this factbook will be an eternal work in progress, and I'll likely be forced to split it into multiple smaller factbooks as this gets expanded.

In the year betwixt leaving education and starting my proper career I had a number short-term jobs, one of which was harvesting cabbages for a couple of weeks - Grookh is a little nod to those days. I did look such things up and apparently you can distill a spirit from cabbages, but the process smells awful and there's very little sugar to convert to alcohol (you have to boil the vegetable for a whole day to render it down enough to be useful) so it's not too popular. I find the idea that the celebrated Grookh-producing regions of Rhanukhan must actually stink quite amusing.
