Actually, now that I think of it, doesn't sound so bad, but it still raises an "oh shit" alarm in my head. Regardless, your premise is, well, extremely rare on this site. For a space colonization narrative, most would probably go with the Moon, or Mars, but the fact that whoever managed to colonize Mars first was likely a driving force in terraforming the planet shows technological prowess and actually good management succeeding in crafting what would later be Grand Ishtar. Your characters don't seem to bad either as well.

That's a really interesting premise. I'd like to see it expanded upon - maybe going as far as a Government collapse through a vote of no-confidence by the other two coalition parties against the Audalusian Social League. There's a lot of room to work with here, in any case.
