It's quite ugly to see that there was a time where people would use tragedies such as pandemics for political gain. I mean, 'Wuhan Pneumonia' isn't exactly a subtle name. It'd be like if I called the black death the 'Earth Pimple'. Not that I would, because I am not petty enough to name a disease after a region I dislike.

Still though, I am glad to see that they have contained it to a point new cases are only in the 10s. Seeing how it was thousands a few months ago, it goes to show that even the worst things will pass.

At the age of 89, George II Windsor has died. Being the scion of the Windsor, the royal family has been declared extinct after his death. Despite having previously abolished the monarchy, and historically persecuting monarchists until the UN banned their persecution in 2152, the Republican Parliament has allowed the Monarchist League to have a procession and funeral at St George's Chapel under the guise of George II Windsor being the head of the political party. Thames Valley Police is expecting at least 50,000 people to personally show up to the ceremony and has already begun setting up blockades to the B470 Highway to redirect traffic.

While most of the nation has reacted positively to the procession, several individuals and organizations have announced their disapproval of the ceremony. Many have proclaimed the "wicked dynasty" is dead, and that the ceremony is a spit in the face of those who died during the 2034 revolution. Some radicals have even threatened to disrupt the procession, such as the Sons of Marx. While under normal circumstances the "Sons of Marx" are not taken seriously, nationalists have responded to the threat by claiming they'd beat up anyone who tries to disrupt it. With threats of potential violence, Thames Valley Police is putting the town of Windsor under high alert for the week before and after the precession.

Although I can't say I fully know the political state of your nation, I can say that it's a nice sign that such an event can take place even with political opposition. Unfortunately it also seems that people will be people, and the risks of violence have already started popping up.

The Artificial Superintelligence "Utopia" has passed away.

At 1,310 years old, the SAI, long time leader of the Federation of Arkeyana, suddenly dissolved three hours ago. Their appointed successor, Numine, has distributed an autobiography of their life, within which contains the explanation of their demise. It states that their system was fundamentally flawed, and had an inevitable point where it would have degenerated into nothing. They did not wish to suffer through senescence, or inflict any serious damage on the Federation during such death throes, and autodeleted their mind-state after granting Numine supreme control over the network.

The backlash of this event has marked the Federation profoundly. Many people, who had become friends of some facet or another of Utopia over the Intranet, have autoeuthanized or autodeleted following the sudden death of a beloved leader and to many a beloved friend. Death is a rare thing in the Federation, and when it comes to pass it is more painful than one could truly expect.

Numine herself, following the death of her predecessor, has proclaimed that she will do her best to follow Utopia's legacy, and even push the Federation beyond what it currently is, to bring about a new age of Unity. Although from abroad this newcomer to the intergalactic playing field is viewed with suspicion, the Arkeyanans have taken well to their new ruler, with her influence rapidly establishing itself throughout the Federation Network and rapidly streamlining the systems Utopia left behind.

Ultimately, many can only wait and see what this dramatic change will bring for the future. But while some look to the future, others choose to dwell on the past a little longer.

The Custodian Minds of the Atlantis, Cheyenne, Virnat, Plus, Minus, and Flora orbitals will be holding both an in person and virtual funeral for Utopia at approximately 7200 InterGal Standard Time on the 12th of February. Those who wish to participate may either book a flight to the Federation, or can tune in on Subspace Channel 17772-AB-0 to pay their respects.
