I have this principle of "insistent terminology is inherently stupid", no offence. I mean, if it's a refugee camp, it's a refugee camp.

The current version of Amenria is version 3.0. The next update is going to be rather large, with an artistic shift being considered. The art shift mentioned will consist of new UI icons and character art that would be more pop art than cyberpunk. This is because the bring colours and rounded shapes would be fitting towards the bright and cheery atmosphere.

I would genuinely love to read your naval doctrines if speed is how you win battles. Aren't large ships meant not to be fast, at least relatively speaking?
Unlike real life, "Newfoundland" does not refer to any specific region in North America. As with real life, it originates from a comment made by a King (here, Hrothgar I of the Danelaw), who said that Cabot's discoveries were a 'New founde lande', but that name never stuck. Unlike real life, Anglo-Danes could never colonise what is in real life Newfoundland, which was instead colonised by the Irish and named New Ireland. The name was only brought back during the latter years of the cold war between the Danelaw and the newly-erected Kingdom of New Scotland where the Anglo-Danish government explicitly refused to open any negotiations with a state that could hold a claim on Scotland, which the Danelaw had recently conquered. As the administration of New Scotland feared that without a standing peace treaty they would inevitably be subsumed into the Anglo-Danish colonies, they readily accepted, and "Newfoundland" was decided as a perfectly neutral name to call the whole kingdom (which controls all Maritime Provinces in addition to Anticosti Island, Saint-Pierre and Miquelon and the island of Newfoundland).

In 2004, the British government had assigned the SAS to raid and secure a safehouse belonging to the CNLA. The recently indoctrinated Wurgent Pickney and his gang had left the safehouse under the watch of Wurgent's 7-year-old nephew Kennard, or Kenny as he was known, when the SAS had arrived. Upon seeing the SAS move towards the building, Kenny quickly went to setting several traps for the task force reminiscent of Home Alone, utilising marbles, banana peels, paintball guns, flammable paint, matches and most notably setting a particularly nasty trap for one member that consisted of "a tripwire I front of a banana peel rigged to release a bowling ball onto a gutter designed to strike our downed fellow trooper in the bollocks."

All were taken down and sent to hospital in critical condition (first aid was administered by CNLA operatives upon returning), except for a female commander by the name of Elizabeth Warnington who was stuck on a snare trap. She was ferociously interrogated by Lt. Kenway of the CNLA what intel they had on them, and she valiantly diverged nothing until they horrifically tortured her by first making her smell a tin of Suströmming and forcing her to listen to Dane Cook's stand-up routines, before she was finally broken when Kenway tickled the soles of her feet with an electric toothbrush, to which she yielded and confessed they had been gathering intelligence on them through multiple posts on MySpace. Upon releasing her then, she was "held hostage" for the rest of the weekend where she proceeded to indulge herself in their supply of marijuana, cigarretes and hard alcohol, binge-watched every Die Hard movie with the terrorists and even slept with several of them. In a non-sexual way, mind you, they didn't have many beds.

Upon being freed, she was dishonorably discharged from the SAS for an unrelated incident, where thereafter she then turned to join the CNLA as Head of Cyber-Terrorist operations. She continues to this day, now renegading and cancelling English celebrities for slightly offensive comments made decades ago.

In TBR's canon, there are seven forms of magic, tied into three dichotomies(and a separate category for Void because it's a cheating bastard)

Essence and Soul are magics of the mind and spirit. Essence is the fabric of dreams, knots of light that occasionally leak into reality, and finds application in communing with spirits and projection into the Dream Realm. Soul is the energy of life itself, and one of the most widespread magics due to its versatility, finding application ranging from powering cities to healing mortal wounds.

Wind and Earth are magics that use the elements themselves. Wind is the manipulation of air, granting wielders immense speed and more experienced casters can even bend the wind into lethal blades, referred to as "Wind-scythes". Earth is the manipulation of rocks and dirt, granting the wielder immense strength and fortitude, and more experienced casters can even transfer the power to other materials.

Silk and Song are magics of elegance and performance. Silk is the magic of choice for the Weavers, and is typically used to create seals, weapons, stories, and even Charms on vast arcane looms. Song is the magic of a distant kingdom, yet can be found in many places in more basic forms, powering mechanisms and naturally found as "Stun roars" emitted by certain animals.

Void is the power opposed, the force that defies time. It's own existence is a paradox, the corpse of Death itself, and this is what grants it its bizarre properties. Wielding the Void is a matter of sheer willpower, as one must be strong enough to impose their will onto the darkness for it to obey their commands, lest it consume them for their audacity. However, Void finds a greater application in combination with other forms of magic, with an even balance causing spells and mechanisms to carry far more power than they would otherwise. A ubiquitous example is the Soul Totems, constructs found throughout the Black Kingdom that use an even stalemate between Earth and Void to produce a "Vacuum" that ambient Soul slowly pools in. When at max capacity, the Soul within can be extracted for use in spellcasting or Focusing, letting the Totem slowly reabsorb Soul to replenish itself.

Insert Skyrim Guard Quote about Magic

On a more serious note though, that is a very interesting method by which to organize magic! IT feels a lot more unique then the typical 'either 4 cardinal elements, or just schools based on effects'. Generally feels more alive, and just is nicer all around!

LOStERIA, who is a sentient AI with an honorary seat on The UCBR High Council, was originally created to emulate the personality of an ancient virtual novella character. The AI, being over four thousand years old, was originally a far more robotic being, without much in the way of personality, though this irked some of her ancient creators. So they requested their lead programmer to develop a semblance of a personality for the AI, to better run with the ship's crewmembers. This programmer happened to be a large fan of digital Novellas, and programmed this new personality matrix in the mind of his favorite character, who was a calm, collected, but easily flustered romantic partner in their game of origin. This personality has been somewhat corrupted over the years, though it is still primarily intact despite damages and changes in information.

LOStERIA is entirely unaware of their origin, and would likely feel immense discomfort if they were to ever discover this fact. Thankfully, no copies of the game exist after four thousand years.

I find it completely possible that a gamer would pick a such personality for their AI. Mind you, I'd very much be trying to tell the AI about their origin if only to film their reaction. But eh. Maybe not if I lived in a world that such an AI was actually possible in.

As explained earlier, Russia suffered five atomic explosions in the final week of the Second Great War. One major result of this was the death of almost every important political, social or military leader of the Fascist Russian Clique. This gave way to a long period of warlord rule in Russia. At this time, Europeans and Asians both tried their best to contain the situation: The Europeans established a puppet government holding half of European Russia with its capital in Saint Petersburg and basically pretended that noting west of Poland, Dacia and the Baltic States existed. Japan sent in troops to occupy the Far East (though not annex anything) and exploit the resource-rich Siberia and the Russian Far East protect those territories for as long as necessary -and in two cases came to blows with China over the issue of Outer Manchuria which the Chinese had tried to annex in 1957 and 1961. The situation in Russia stabilised in the 1970s, and a Military Clique with its capital in Novgorod came to reunify the country through forces of arms, managing to gain recognition from Europe and the Organisation of United Nations by 1980. The Restoration of Order in Ukraine (which we know as Ruthenia and the Russians know as New Russia) and Belarus was one of the last actions during this period of reunification, and Japan returned the last of their occupied territory (namely in Sakhalin) in 1992. Russia enjoyed a period of general, though uneasy, peace from 1980 to 2020, with tensions rising again only during the New Kiev Crisis (2020-2025) in which Europeans, worried about Russian remilitarisation of their eastern borders, essentially funded, armed and diplomatically supported nationalist uprisings in Ruthenia, Whiterussia and many Russian holdings in Asia, hoping that Russia would send its soldiers to the rebelling cities instead of keep them at the border or possibly invade Europe.

I feel sad for the Russians who had to live through the warlord period and witness their country getting nuked five times.

In the world of New England, the United States speaks American. American was born out of a phonetic reform that occurred in the mid 19th century to promote literacy and to ensure that non-English speakers (Spanish speakers in the newly acquired American Caribbean) could learn English more easily. It has no relation to any other language and it is an American invention. It is generally regarded as being a separate language. Informally, citizens of the British Empire would call it Simplified English, but in formal settings, it would be called American.

So, simplified English it is ^_^
I'm glad the US government was more considerate for their citizens, even if their imperialism still continued (and apparently in the Caribbean this time too!) However, I wonder if it is mutually intelligible with speakers of Traditional (RP) English. If it is, it would make sense for the British to view American as a simplified version of their own language.

Ohhh, so that's how Vivian can't do arithmetic yet is a maths genius. That actually makes a lot of sense, really! I too easily forget that high-level mathematics has really little to do with arithmetic and everything to do with creativity, analysis, and finding connections that can form the basis of proofs. When I was younger, I used to watch a lot of Victoria Hart's videos (Vi Hart on YouTube), and it amazed me how creative her math seemed to be, how her work seemed to have very little to do with rote arithmetic.

It is still makes for an interesting duality in a character—terrible at arithmetic yet brilliant at maths. I can't help but compare the idea to, say, a historian who can't keep track of dates but is nevertheless very talented at reading sources critically and applying theory in ways that yield creatively insightful interpretations of history. Vivian may not be able to keep a grasp on the minor operations, but she understands the big picture and can inventively work with the system as a whole.

Because videocassettepunk has supplanted digitization and miniaturization, MP3 players never took the mobile music device by storm, and Walkman-like cassette players remain in mass use. As a corollary, earbuds—which became mainstream by dint of Apple packaging them with MP3 players—are virtually nowhere to be seen in Baizou. Headphones have remained the norm in Baizou, running the gamut from thin, utilitarian headsets to large, stereo-style fashion statements. So next time you imagine any Baizoan character listening to music, try to also picture them wearing headphones.

I mean, on one hand, cassettes sound like much more of a hassle than CDs or apps, but on the other...headphones, easily superior to earbuds, 10/10.

It's a neat aesthetic, but I personally prefer a combination of the two.

Although this is not exactly a fact about the Black Kingdom, and moreso about the World in general, I'm putting it out anyways.

Wyrms are a now-extinct species of Higher Beings(what us humans would consider Gods) that permeated the World in ages past. Their culture was strange and alien, and all were gifted with the power of "Foresight", or the ability to see countless variations of the Future. Wyrms formed communal nests, that would sustain several generations of Wyrms under the watchful eye of the Wyrm's Elders, those who rejected the urge to wander and focused on honing the power of their monstrous forms. When a clutch of Wyrmlings came of age, the Nest's Elders would take them deep into the bowels of their home to perform the Rite of Awoken Sight, that would grant the Wyrm a clear image of their destiny and awaken their Foresight.

When a Wyrm recieved this Rite, more often than not they would pursue the destiny of founding a Kingdom-pulling mortal bugs into their thrall and founding extensive civilizations. For Wyrms, this was done much like how birds built nests. For mortals, this was Gods emerging from the Wastes to bring enlightenment and civilization.

When a Wyrm reached their destination, where their Kingdom would be founded, more often than not they shed their forms, undergoing a voluntary death and casting off their great shells to be reborn in shapes more amicable to ruling a populace. The cast-off shell would slowly decompose, burying its resting place in ash, or would be disassembled by the Kingdom later, for use in construction and magic, whichever route the Wyrm desired.

Unfortunately, Wyrm-Kingdoms did not last. Even Hallownest, the supposed "Eternal Kingdom", did not last the test of time. These civilizations would frequently collapse due to territorial clashes between the Wyrm and other Higher Beings, be they other Wyrms or true Higher Beings born from other origins. It may take centuries, millennia, or even hundreds of millennia, but the Wyrm-Kingdom would fall.

It is this cycle of falling kingdoms that lead to the decline of the Wyrm species. As more and more Wyrms left their nests to seek out their destinies, it became apparent that fewer and fewer saw destinies that led to them tending to Nests. The Elder Caste would slowly fade, with fewer and fewer Wyrms joining their ranks, until the last Elder Wyrm died many years ago.

Without the Wyrms, the world is smaller. Without their vast kingdoms, the world is quiet. Without their power, the world is faded. Naturally-spawned Higher Beings are rare, and Ascended Mortals, even rarer. The World is a dark place, darker than it has been under a starless sky. Although it is rumored that Wyrms still live out in the Wastes, attempting to revive the Elder Caste...these are but rumors, and many a supposed Wyrm sighting has merely been a beast obscured by the howling winds of the Wastes.

First of all, that was a well-written post. Not sure if it's your wording or something, but as I read down I get the sense of quietness and sadness that only progresses as I get to the last word, and I love it. It's a shame such wonderful creatures are going extinct. They sound like pleasant and benign beings not unlike dragons. I can picture mortal kings seeing Wyrms as mentor and/or parental figures like how Pharaohs probably see their gods.

Another universe exists, known as the Wildverse. It's focused on animals. In this universe, the secrets of Superpowers weren't passed on to Adam. Only half of them were given to humans, while the other half was spread across nature for humanity to figure out. This resulted in fantastical creatures such as winged tigers, gigantic rhinoceros, and skywhales, all of which possess the mental and spiritual capacity to use Superpowers.

Humans have no Superpowers except for the ability to create a lifelong "bond" with such animals. Such people are called Bondspeople. The animals they bond with are pets, friends, and battle companions, with the larger ones being rode into battle while smaller ones slither, fly, crawl, skitter, or run alongside their human partners.

Skywhales sound epic as hell. As do winged tigers. Can all humans bond with those animals? f no, is it a trait passed down genetically, or do animals "choose" who they bond with ?And are do all animals have some sort of abilities?

In the world of Soviet Progonya, the more proficient someone becomes at using ARCANE, the more disassociated their soul and body get, and the more susceptible they are to glitches in the world. If this gets extreme enough, it may kill them outright. Everyone is able to access ARCANE but the general population only uses it as a utility (for example to light cigs or to do house work), but there are rumours of there being organisation in close contact of the leader who are highly adept at using ARCANE. Speculation on what their abilities are range from speaking with the dead to being able to "sense" traitors and whether or not someone is lying.

The better they get with ARCANE, the more disassociated they get with soul and body and can get hurt by world glitches... so this is all just like some Matrix or other simulation? And folks can hack it?! Damn! What if one day they all get out of virtual world? And who had created it? So many questions.

Free and hedonistic Sky Reavers may look like a bunch of drunkards, but they are not to be messed with. Due to guerrilla legacy, they are not only fierce fighters, but also extremely cunning, and combine fast and aggressive blitzkrieg style attacks with lots of maneuvering, guerrilla warfare and use of wild card tactics. While they do some war planning, the plans are rather vague and have lots of room for improvisation and creativity, this combined with independent thinking and decentralization, makes their battle tactics highly unpredictible and enables them to adapt on the fly.

Nah, the world is real and physical, however is controlled by laws and system that have began to break down. It's not a simulation. Hacking it isn't exactly possible, although I guess ARCANE is already kinda hacking reality? Or at least exploiting it's cracks. No real answer for the last one since my nation's world has no canon correct religion so it could be God or could be someone or something else or no one. I'm Christian but Im not making it the "correct" religion in my nations world.

It is great to have a force of fighters that can easily adapt and have unpredictable battle tactics.

In the world of New England, the United States follows two ideologies known as Hamiltonism and Americanism. Hamiltonism is the belief that the United States does not need a direct-democracy type system, that too much democracy is a bad thing, and that it can lead to the corruption of the government and the people. Instead, it champions that it took a "Great Man" (like Alexander Hamilton) to actually run the country, run the government, and become the 'Father of the People'. Americanism is political isolationism, insofar that the Constitution is an infallible document, the political systems from outside the United States are absolutely unworkable, and any suggestions of reform or changes are treasonous. Because of Hamiltionism and Americanism, the United States is quite authoritarian and undemocratic.

That's... pretty much on par for what I expect of the US if no Jacksonian Democracy got around to fix the problems with early America. I'm assuming Hamilton was actually more influential -powerful enough that there are people who unironically think he was the one who built America- and his opponents... not so? And tbh 'Americanism' isn't that different from what the US believes about its political system in real life.

Newfoundland has generally never had a high population. Most of the country was never settled, and the native tribes were systematically wiped out as their members were forced to be integrated into the Celtic society and take Scottish speech and culture for their own and worship Insular Christianity -which means that instead of old tribe sites becoming settlements, they were abandoned as the natives were forced to join the settlements instead. This has continued to the modern age to a scale that there is practically no major drop or increase in the population within any two decades: For example between 2010 and 2020, the population only grew by 7,773 people. What makes this worse is that both the people and the government are thoroughly opposed to any and all forms of immigration, so the population can't be 'fixed' through migration into the country. The Government has been trying to solve this issue through incentivising having big families, but like most developed economies the people have thus far shown no sign that money will get them around to make more babies.

This demographic trend is most troubling, terrifying even for a modern state that requires such an innumerable myriad of specialised individuals, trained and working in so many fields, in order to survive. I fear Newfoundland’s fertility rate may soon dip into the negatives, as South Korea’s has in real life. In my opinion, a tax reduction per child would be the cheapest but still effective method of increasing the birth rate, though it is highly likely the government may need to also focus more on childcare and making reproduction more affordable and easier for potential parents. That would cost no small amount of money, however.
Disregarding different variations between languages, there are 3 words used to refer to vampirekind. These are: vampire (most common), Homo Hirudinis [Commūnior/Regina] (the scientific name for the species) and álfur. The third means “elf”, and is what Versilian vampires call themselves; vampire and the scientific term aren’t used except (in rare cases) for foreign vampires and in scientific contexts respectively.

Værslendingar (Versilian: “Versilians”) - or Grænlendingar (Versilian: “Greenlanders”) -, as well as wider Nordic vampirekind, have called themselves elves for millennia as the name became attached to their own concept of their kind due to Norsemen calling them elves. Vampires and humans have coexisted since the Pleistocene and Scandinavia was inhabited by both vampires and humans. As the vampire population was relatively significantly smaller to the human population, and because of Greater Vampires’ particular talent for magic, the term elf came to be used as they were generally very isolated from human eyes, usually in caves, mountains and thick forests. Blóðàlfr ("Blóðálfur" in modern Versilian), meaning “blood elf”, was also a name used by the old Norse to differentiate vampires and other kinds of elves in their beliefs.

Quite interesting, how the Nordiv Vampires refer to themselves and are referred to that way. The fact that this alternate species of humanity was simply integrated into folklore while being a genuinely real species, is very cool.

Also more of a thing on the TBR world in general, but some neat worldbuilding I jotted down earlier today:

Long ago, when the world was young, when the Void was small and before the Wyrms and Roots walked the land, there was the Dream Realm, and Xephir, God of Dreams. The Dream Realm was, and still is, a wondrous place, where the spirits of mortals frolicked and lived wild fantasies, or terrible nightmares. However, as the mortals grew, they began to...differentiate. A line was drawn between good and bad dreams, and, swayed by ideas and spirits, the Dream Realm began to sunder. Xephir died in immense pain, Their heart literally torn from their body and cast into a realm beyond the Dream Realm, where all the Nightmares and spirits of mischief and fear congregated: The Nightmare Realm. In the Dream Realm, which had now split from the Nightmare Realm, Xephir's vast body dissolved into Essence, the energy of Dreams, which would later coalesce into innumerable Higher Beings formed from ideas and emotions.

In the Nightmare Realm, however, the heart of Xephir lived on. Twisted by the new environment it found itself in, and the violence of its birth, this newborn Higher Being became something more malevolent. It commanded the spirits that inhabited its realm to infest the fears and nightmares of mortals, and through these night terrors became known as the Nightmare Heart. If the Dream Realm welcomed the spirit of the dead, and the Void consumed the regrets and soul of the dead, then the Nightmare Heart fed on the fears of the dead, manifesting them as flaming essence that flowed through its veins, ever-beating in the distant fringes of Dreams. The Nightmare Heart would create a Vessel, that would be referred to as Nightmare King or Troupe Master, and this Vessel would reap the nightmares of dead Kingdoms, to perpetuate itself.

This vessel would be known as Grimm, and his followers as the Grimm Troupe.

Synopsis: An alternate timeline of Hollow Knight where the Ancient Civilization never fell, living in the Abyss as a small but still potent power, with associated ramifications for Hallownest as a whole.

I think the root (heh) of all of it came from the fact that there was a differentiation. Sure, it helps to divide between a dream and a nightmare, but I feel that it was what brought about the decline of it. The concept of good and bad, along with the ideas, can be vastly different from one mortal to another and as a result, poor Xephir died from such a fate. I also like the idea that the Void is something to not be feared about. It may look dark, for the lack of a better word, and it will consume the souls of the dead, but it was at least simply doing its job instead of going all Nightmare-fuel on the things around them.

I wonder if you are going to write more about Xephir and how they might be restored back to their normal self. It could really make for a good campaign and RP material, I feel. ^^
