The armor their infantry is issued seems certainly capable of taking a couple rounds from small arms. Granted the reasoning for armor in Dieselpunk fiction, it's probable that it indeed is.

In other words, a firefight with these guys would be a pain in the ass. Good luck having your marksmen pop heads when their heads are encased in a bucket of solid steel. assuming you don't issue specialized ammunition, anyway.

The Viper vial is a small gold "trinket" that, when it pierces the skin, makes it so that a human can no longer feel pain and cannot be killed. And I do not mean "cannot be killed" as super regeneration or Superman skin I just mean it as, let's say a soldier got beheaded, the soldier would still be alive and breathing afterwards but his head cannot be reattached and the body is dead.

Such strength and resilience make the Monks likely capable of punching far above their weight, if they so desired.
