"I wonder if this is what my home could have become, given time. Ill-natured dwelling-on-the-past aside, I find it all a little too stifling. Yes, I've had my share of bureaucratic intrigue. Doesn't mean I'm a great fan of it - they could do to loosen up a little. Of course, then the whole thing could come tumbling down; arguably more fun that way. Ah well, 'least their aesthetic works out. From a purely atmospheric standpoint, I dig it. And it makes for some interesting stories."

"I do not have the wealth to hire you or the strength to challenge you, but... you lot seem to me to be of a kinder sort than the rest of your kind. At least your words are sweet. But to kill is to rule most absolutely on the worth of another, and I do not trust those who would weigh that worth absolutely with the wealth of a... buyer. An unscrupulous killer is a dangerous one; this I know all too well. I would hope that you would find our foes too detestable to ever throw in with, but I doubt I could trust your roving band to even do that, were you to be moved significantly enough. So, then, while we meet with kindness know I view you all as... not honorable, but not... offensive, either. Like blade with a loose hand on its hilt. It is neither good nor evil, but it is undeniably dangerous. I feel were I to deal with you for long I would feel that blade's teeth.
Is she gone? Can I talk normally now?"

"Terrible. Their people are still trapped in the age of stone and bows and primitive domestication. They have yet to overcome the problems that plague early civilizations, and that is indeed a terrible state of being. I know their leader would not trust me... but perhaps she will change her mind if she sees what our technology can do for her people's survival and comfort."

"...Hm. I'm not quite sure how to feel about Reaper Squadron. Are they freedom fighters, objecting to what they think is wrong? Or are they renegades, willing to seize the right to violence for themselves? If we all objected when we pleased, we would not be able to enjoy the consistency of a society built on the rule of law. And I am not comfortable with entrusting the power to do violence to such a small, rogue 'nation' accountable to none but themselves. But maybe I am too accustomed to the easy moral calculus of my civilized life and so am not able to truly understand the position the Squadron found themselves in..."
Princess Consort Oshiro Yuu
"...We will have to disagree, Dear. I see heroism in Reaper Squadron! They're not renegades; they're freedom fighters. And they're fighting for someone else's freedom, rather than their own! How can we expect the Squadron to respect a social fabric that their superiors were not willing to respect?
"Speaking of, I'll also give a quick opinion on the Arctic Ocean Union. Hm. In light of Reaper One's discovery, the Union may be a decent enough place to live in—one where your autonomy as an individual is seemingly respected—but it's built on a facade of rights that hides a reality of opportunism in which the Union will selectively disrupt lives as a shortcut to easy power. Shameful, but somehow not surprising."

"You know, as a child, stories about magical worlds, full with unnatural beauty and great evil was one of my favorite genres. A good fantasy book allows your mind to drift, to imagine a world that would seem impossible, at least with what Earth has to offer. This is why, though I may not show this with a simple message, I am giddy with excitement about the notion of your nation, and your world. It's like it was completely ripped out of the pages of books I read often, even today. Though such world may seem mundane for the people living on it, it fills me with wonder and awe, knowing that such a world exists. I wonder if you view Earth in the same way?.. Humanity may never reach the planet of which you call home, but I must notify the international community of my discovery today. We've been looking for Extraterrestrial sentient life for a long time, and now we know that, not only is it out there, but that it made communication with earth in perhaps one of the most mundane ways possible..." |

"The religionist in me cannot help but be slightly dismayed by what I gather is a rather significant decline in spirituality in Zitravgrad. Of course, to each their own, as is said in Zitravgrad. But I cannot help that it is my opinion that Zitravgradians need not scoff quite so much at the 'sixth sense'—one can disbelieve in the divine and in superstition yet still experience emotional, even spiritual, resonance. |
