Elect the president, each election.

Postby La xinga » Tue Oct 20, 2020 8:07 am

This belongs in either F7 of General. I needed to pick one so I picked this one. If it needs to be moved a mod will move it. Hopefully.

Inspired from FCN's polls. Oh who are we kidding, this is a direct copy!

So basically, every week is another election. For example, Week 1 is the 1796 election, then Week 2 is the 1800, Week 3 is the 1804, and so on, and so on.

We're not doing 1789 and 1792 because it was just Washington.

The rules:
I can't stop you, BUT PLEASE VOTE ON ONE ACCOUNT ONLY. Voting multiple times ruins the game for everyone!

And this.

So we begin with 1796.

Current election: 1860.
The United States presidential election of 1860 set the stage for the American Civil War. The nation had been divided throughout most of the 1850s on questions of states' rights and slavery in the territories. In 1860, this issue finally came to a head, fracturing the formerly dominant Democratic Party into Southern and Northern factions and bringing Abraham Lincoln and the Republican Party to power without the support of a single Southern state.

Hardly more than a month following Lincoln's victory came declarations of secession by South Carolina and other states, which were rejected as illegal by the then-current President, James Buchanan and President-elect Abraham Lincoln.

Issues of the Day: Slavery (Dred Scott decision, Secession)

And say who you voted for below!

Election of 1796: VOTE!

John Adams (Federalist) 20 Votes
Thomas Jefferson (Democratic-Republican) 40 Votes (WINNER!)
Thomas Pinckney (Federalist) 9 Votes
Aaron Burr (Democratic-Republican) 7 Votes!
Total votes: 76

Election of 1800: VOTE!

Total votes: 56

And, while an election is in place, you could debate about it.

I don't really like either, given that I don't agree with Adam's fiscal views n stuff, but I also don't like Jefferson's slavery thing. Hm. Well, I might as well flip a coin and see. Oh, and I got Adams. Well, I guess I'm reluctantly voting for him.

Jefferson leadin'

If fact if all the other votes were added up I would have only 2 more than Jefferson.

Yeah I'm projecting this for Jefferson.

Jefferson, although somewhat Racist, is far better than any of the other options, Adams was not fit, Burr only focused on the North, and Pickney was never noticed.

Denmark Vesey conspiracy
In 1822, news was reported of a massive planned slave uprising, to be led by Denmark Vesey, a literate free man of color. Vesey and numerous other free blacks and slaves were quickly arrested in a roundup and suppression of rebellion by authorities. Slaves constituted the majority of the population in Charleston, where there was a substantial population of free people of color. Whites long feared just such an uprising. In closed court proceedings, Vesey and numerous other suspects were convicted; they were soon executed as conspirators. Arrests continued, with some suspects deported from the country.

Pinckney published a pamphlet listing factors that he thought led to the rebellion conspiracy and should be prevented in the future.

1st: The example of St. Domingo (Saint-Domingue) (Note: A violent and protracted slave uprising there gained the independence of Haiti in 1804), and the encouragement received therefrom.
2nd: The indiscreet zeal in favor of universal liberty, expressed by many of our fellow citizens in the States north and east of Maryland; aided by the black population of those states.
3rd: The idleness, dissipation, and improper indulgences permitted among all classes of negroes in Charleston, and particularly among the domestic being taught to read and write. Being taught to read and write is the most dangerous.
4th: The facility of obtaining money afforded by the nature of their occupations to those employed as mechanics, draymen, fisherman, butchers, porters and hucksters.
5th: The disparity of numbers between the white and black inhabitants of the city.[10]
