Because the whole thing about huffmania is that it’s government is pretty authoritarian. What’s a good totalitarian regime is free thinkers aren’t purged from the earth

1. IC-wise, Grouper Animations is making the shows to compete with Marvel, DC, and Amazon. As for OOC reasons, I really just wanted to, even before I joined this site, I wanted to make a show.

Norse Inuit Union wrote:1. I may of possibly asked this question before so I'll add to it, is the whaling and sealing industry regulated or is it too early for it to be a problem and if it is has it ever historically been regulated?
2. Since your nation has industrialized have left winged movements like Socialism and Marxism emerged or even any green/eco-friendly movements?
3. Have English Coffee houses helped spread political ideas in East Plate? This is one things I remember learning about in AP European History and it seems like this might apply to your nation.

On now I have two OOC questions I am curious about.
1. You really know a lot about your country's does this at all have to do with you learning about your country's history in school for so long. I only ask this as I know so much about American history because I've been thought is for so long and I haven't really thought of the fact this would apply to other people from different countries and I just find this fascinating.

2. What is one of your favorite things about the Victorian Era?

Hello! Thanks for the questions :) (I apologise in advance, I feel like I will write too much and I will certainly bore you to death hehe)

1.- It is still too early for the colony to make any serious regulations regarding whaling. The industry is certainly an organised one, and it is subject to the basic labour laws that exist in the colony, but the colonial government simply sees no reason to further regulate it. Environmentalism and the protection of species are not active concerns for the colony, not only because whaling is a very old industry which has been carried out by humans for thousands of years, being very lucrative and thus preventing the government from wanting to make it less profitable with regulations, but also because of just plain ignorance. Science is not nearly as advanced as it is today in the 21st century. Eastplatine intellectuals do not fully understand the impacts of the industry (or any industry at all...) on the environment, and even when they are not ignorant enough to not realise that whale populations are certainly dwindling, and some certainly may have realised that something should be done, there are still a lot of other more pressing matters for the colony to fix first. Just to give you an example, the colony still faces plagues on a regular basis: yellow fever, cholera, tuberculosis, syphilis and many other illnesses spread almost freely killing thousands and making the life expectancy of an average Eastplatine as low as 40 years, with most children not even living past their fifth birthday. The scientific and medical community of the colony is still divided debating things as big and important as the miasma theory (they believe that diseases spread through "bad air" and "bad odours") and the germ theory (our current theory on how most diseases happen). When you put that into perspective, it is not hard to understand that making regulations to preserve whales is clearly not a priority for both the government and the scientific community, and it certainly is not a priority for the population, especially those who earn their money by whaling.

So, to put it simply, no. The industry is mostly unregulated, and it will stay that way until the colony (and the entire world) figures out how to fix other matters considered to be more important first. Until that happens, no one will be interested enough to force the hand of the government to do something about it.

2.- As for the green/eco-friendly movements, the answer is very similar to the one I gave you in the previous question. Yes, some people may have realised which effects industrialisation can do on the environment and how that may affect the people, but the general idea is that there are more pressing matters to attend to first. No one in the colony will care about environmentalism as long as, for example, their children die of a simple infection. You also have to keep in mind that East Plate is not really industrialised. The only truly industrialised thing in the colony is meat production. East Plate is not Britain or the United States... pollution here is minimal (although it certainly does exist) compared to those places, and thus, environmentalism is buried even deeper on the list of things that the colony cares about at this point.

Socialism is, however, a completely different story. Unlike environmentalism, poverty is a pressing matter for the colony. Even when the colony is much more homogenous than, for example, London regarding social classes, there are still poor people and working-class people, and therefore, attention is paid to these topics. Eastplatine democracy is still very young, and political parties have not been formed yet, so you will not see any socialist party around, but you can see members of parliament, elected by the people, especially those living in big cities like Montevideo, where poverty can be more widespread, supporting some sort of socialist ideas or ideas more oriented to the working class people. Most of these can be seen aligning themselves with the "Colorado Faction" of parliament. This Faction is not socialist by definition, and rejects any ideas of "social class struggle" but it has adopted a lot of ideas from socialist thinkers. The Colorado Faction is not only popular but also traditionally the ruling faction of the colony, and therefore the colony has adopted a series of very progressive legislation for its time, such as the limitation of the working day to an eight-hour workday, the prohibition of work for minors under 13 years of age, the improvement of working conditions, protecting the "right to strike," making education free and available to everyone, and many other policies. The colony is also known for "patriating" business from time to time, especially in areas related to public services, such as the patriation of the Central Uruguay Railway Company, when the colony basically forcefully bought the London-based company and converted it into a publicly owned company. The most radical subfactions of the Colorado Faction even support things like universal suffrage and pretty much dislike anything related to religion.

Communist ideas certainly reached the colony, and you can probably find groups of people supporting Marxist ideas, but they lack traction because they are simply too radical. For a radical movement to gain traction, you need a lot of dissatisfaction among the people, and that dissatisfaction is not present in East Plate at the moment. The Colorado Faction already makes life a bit easier for workers, to the point that East Plate is generally seen as a decent place for the working class (this being one of the factors for people to migrate to the colony). Why would the Eastplatines support communism when they already have a fairly progressive government, plenty of food, better-than-average working conditions and decent wages? Maybe in the 20th century, when world wars come knocking and East Plate is drawn by Britain into them, the Eastplatines may be more inclined to become more radical, but for now, they have no reason at all.

3.- As far as I am aware (and I am not an expert on English history, so I may be totally wrong here), English Coffee houses were a thing from the 17th and 18th centuries. East Plate did not become British until the 19th century, so the colony came into existence a bit too late for these things to exist here. However, the colony has some institutions that do help to spread political ideas. For instance, you have newspapers, which, much like our present-day newspapers, all have different ideologies, some are more liberal, some more conservative, some support universal suffrage, some only male universal suffrage, and some support the status quo, some, like The Southern Star (which is the most popular) support the British Crown and the British Empire since even before East Plate became an English colony, while others, like The Montevideo Times support autonomy. You also have the Circulating Libraries, which specialise in lending books to subscribers, and act as the main provider of books for the feminine clientele, spreading knowledge to females and empowering them by publishing their written works (although generally anonymously), allowing for their ideas to be read by everyone. There are also the "Ladies' Reading Rooms" created by the Philanthropic Society of Oriental Dames, where women can debate with openly-minded men, becoming a way for women to pursue truth, knowledge and an understanding of themselves and the world around them, and therefore being some kind of unofficial universities for women, where scientific, political and philosophic knowledge is passed to women, helping to politicise a generation of influential women and give them valuable experience in debating and public speaking.

Now for the OOC questions...

1.- Uruguayan education is a bit different to American education. Here we "specialise" on certain topics depending on which career we want to study in the future, so not everyone receives the same level of education regarding history. Everyone is taught the basics during the first years of education, and then it depends on which path you decided to follow. In my case, I am a Pharmaceutical Chemist IRL, so as you can probably guess, history was not a priority. People who pursue careers in social sciences are probably taught much more history than me, but I can only speak for myself. In my experience, the Uruguayan educative system completely overlooks our history, and does a terrible job of actually teaching anything meaningful. They talk about the Charrúas (the indigenous people who lived here before Europeans), about Artigas (our "national hero," who in my opinion did nothing other than get defeated and exiled to Paraguay), they teach us about his struggle with Spain (completely ignoring the fact that Montevideo was strongly loyal to Spain), how we got invaded by Brazil and how we "declared independence from them" (when in reality we just declared independence and immediately voted to unite with Argentina, and we are independent just because Britain wanted it) and then a lot about Batllismo (a political ideology during 20th century Uruguay, which is very similar to the ideology of the Colorado Faction of East Plate) and how we were "the Switzerland of South America" because we were "so rich and prosperous" (oh! and do not forget football! They make sure to teach that we hosted the first World Cup! and won it too! yay football!). So no, me liking history has nothing to do with it being taught at school. I just like it and it has been a hobby of mine to learn it.

2.- There are a lot of things about the Victorian Era... Choosing a favourite would be almost impossible. But I guess that you could say that the thing that I find most intriguing and interesting is how much the world changed during it. The Victorians were responsible for a huge number of advances in technology, like the telephone, the photograph, the typewriter, the bicycle, the car, the train... it was during this time when a lot of social changes started to occur, and also when lots and lots of scientific discoveries happened (for example, Maxwell's equations, Faraday's Laws, Pasteur's discoveries of the principles of vaccination, microbial fermentation and pasteurization, Marie Curie's research on radioactivity, Charles Darwin's contributions to the understanding of evolutionary biology...) I can't even begin to make a list, but just think about almost anything you were taught at school... chances are a Victorian invented/discovered that. I absolutely love this fun fact, but even computers find their origins in the Victorian Era! Just search "Charles Babbage" on the internet.

I find it fascinating how strange and contradictory the Victorian Era can be sometimes... society was utterly class-bound and stultifyingly oppressive to women and minorities. It was sexually repressed and psychologically unhealthy. It had a horrendous gap between rich and poor, with appalling slums, disease, crime, and pollution. And at the same time, all that I mentioned before was happening: the era was innovative, energetic, expansive and inquiring, and, in a way, the modern world is built upon the foundations that it laid.

And finally, I also really like that the Victorian Era is still relatively recent even historically speaking. There are still tons of things that remain from that era that we can easily see and learn from. Not just to admire the great advances that were made during this time, or their fashion, buildings and monuments, but also their failures and things we should avoid at all costs from happening again. We can see how terrible it was back then because we did not have modern medicine or because we refused to accept new theories, we can see how easily diseases killed people, we can see what happens when you don't care about the environment, or when you have terrible work conditions or you allow yourself to discriminate based on "morality" or "religion." Taking modern conveniences for granted is always so very easy, but thankfully, we always have the past to remind us that even in a time of progress, things were not always as easy as they are now. Obviously, this does not apply to the Victorian Era alone, but I think it gives us a very clear example, and also a very relatable one.

1. It's a mix of all three are allowed but a worker can only own a business if it is just him doing the work, like for example a fisherman. If more than one person does the work they vote on what to do with the means of production. That's the best I can explain it for now.
2. It does ruffle some feathers but the people are aware that whales are endangered so the majority support regulations which is why they are there in the first place.
3. They do not want people to access nuclear weapons as those are banned. Military weapons are a classification of weapons here and those include all other weapons used by militaries around the world besides nuclear. I may add some larger bombs besides nuclear to the list of banned weapons in the future.

1. Sorta, but they almost unanimously chose to leave with what was going on in the area at the time (see: racism). The proportion of the population who would have been Maori at that time was also tiny, in line with the real South Island in 1950.

2. It's a large population, but the cities are very dense and spread widely.

  • When and/or how did the now ex-Italian regions separate from the rest of Italy?
  • On another note, how are relations with Italy, for that matter?
  • What is the scale of the use of Latin in LC? Would it not presumably be only used in ecclesiastical contexts?
  • Given that the no-cars policy "isn't really enforced," does this mean that it's more of a symbolic national stance?

We're on friendly terms with the Aussies due to their links to the West, who we are also closely tied to. A lot of industry, primarily transportation, comes from Australia and New Zealand. As for Papua New Guinea, we aren't nearly as closely tied to them but we do offer them international aid from time to time due to their country's high rates of poverty and destitution.

Bonus question - does PM Paisley speak Abtish and/or Paltish, or just English?

Is your nation primarily inspired by that random Russian-Belarusian military exercise years ago, where they went to war against the imaginary country in north-western Belarus?
前進馬來亞 | Imagine a Singapore, but the scale of Indonesia

Chinese people took over Malaya; its native Malay and tribal people bulldozed by overpopulated megacities sprawl, destructive palm plantations, and hyper-competitive "kiasu" corporate culture. Under the authoritarian technocracy of Lee Kuan Yew and his "Kongsi government", the quasi-apartheid state grew into a cyberpunk techno-industrial behemoth equal to Japan. Yet the specter of Maoism and Islamism among the second-class is ever-present...

This nation is dedicated to the Islamist cleric near my friend's house, who preached during Friday sermon that the Chinese will buy up all the land and expell all the Muslims and the Muslims will be forced to live on top of the mountains. (It was election season).

Yes, Veyshnoria was a big inspiration for Waisnor, with flag, territory and name of the currency taken from them)

How your people felt about so much changes in such short amount of time? I mean, you just got independence, and you already went through kingdom, republic and now an empire.

At this point, they are just compliant. The entire reason this happened was for glory.

There have been a lot of reforms the government has made, what are some things that the government is still working to fix that have not been mentioned in your factbook? If there isn't really any feel free to mention some of the ones covered in your factbooks again.

In terms of information technology, a lot of standardizations and anti-trust busting against tech platform gatekeeping. For example, digital financial platforms are required to be able to implement the platforms of others through standardized layers; e.g., anything that accepts Apple Pay is forced to also be able to accept OVO pay and many others. These standards strengthens Union government's control over baseline tech infrastructure, who then use it to mine all the public data for its AI-based policymaking initiatives.

1. How did Fenrir's Fangs even manage to exist for as long as he did? Extremist groups usually have short life cycles, but almost 500 years? That seems rather weird.
2. Why exactly did you chose Roblox of all things to represent your characters with? It's rather distracting, tqbh.
3. Why was Thors reason for striking down Xiqi "Him not liking Giants" instead of the far more classical "Result of Thor picking a fight over a random thing while drunk"?

Hi Onox, nice to get questions from you again!
1. I see your point but they have always been prominent here and there have always been radical anti-christian extremist and Fenrir Fangs fits their beliefs quite well.
2. I also see your point but I guess it's do to me liking roblox and I got a lot of Robux for one of my Birthdays and there was a lot of military accessories on roblox that would fit my nation well so I spent money on that and decided to use it for my nation. I have thought about making a military factbook without roblox related stuff but it would be hard to find certain of the military uniforms online. I can see it being distracting but I honestly just kind of don't care about fixing it as it doesn't bother me and I'm currently working on other stuff for this nation.
3. I didn't know he was a drunk but that's not really that surprising, I looked it up and there are claims of him liking drinking and he competed in a drinking contest. I guess I could see that as being pretty humorous and I currently somewhat tempted to add that.
