Initially, it was very simple: Hey are you interested in having your leader as part of my leader's bisexual harem? Just a funny little thing. But now it's less simple as I'm working on figuring how to take it a bit more seriously beyond two characters being in a romantic relationship. I want to ensure it actually has meaning and adds growth to both of our canonverses, which is quite difficult but it's far more fun that way. Also helps a lot if you are friends with some players and share a discord with them all.

Very good question. While the United Directorate was definitely an extent of a police state, there was still an issue with piracy, which was a large part of the criminal underground of the Idenir United Directorate, which the Grand Republics used (and still use) to take out enemies and empower whatever form their Republic took at the time. I imagine the ships were most likely military vessels, commandeered by criminals on the surface who would eventually run their operations through hidden bases on distant moons and uninhabited systems away from the prying eyes of the United Directorate, operating in ways that serendipituously hindered the operations of a Great Republic in favor of another's, and generally contributed to the great political drama of the Shovaar. My thinking is that, when the pirate ship was destroyed near Isecamn, the Fleet guarding Isecamn took the ship and had it quietly reverse-engineered on Isecamn to uncover the technology used. They only reported the destruction to the Shovaar once the project was long since in motion. The communal bonds between the Scien meant that the project, once finished, was shared across the fleet and, as a result, across the Scieni worlds. I imagine that the Shovaar were very suspicious when the Scien announced their sudden 'discovery' of FTL technology as well, but probably didn't want to spark a conflict, or were simply to busy with other affairs to bother. After all, this meant they would actually start recieving Scieni trade as well. I'll probably end up expanding more on this part of history in the future anyways; this was a monumental achievement for the Scien and there were probably a lot of diplomatic concerns regarding the truth of the technology.
As to why they didn't share it, I'm not entirely sure! Didn;t think of that, and I should probably include that when I get around to expanding Shov Scien's history. I imagine it had something to do with the fact that the two spacefaring peoples were in truth very isolationist, and both had many fears regarding first contact-the Scien had entire STL space navies to protect their worlds, despite having nothing to realistically defend themselves from.

Out of all your puppets, which one do you have the most connection with and why? What makes the others not 'add up' to your most beloved lore concept?

Ooh, that's a... that's a hard one.

Honestly, I love them all; but if I had to choose one alone that I truly felt like amounted to my best work it would be Palisade. It's mainly because I've got more of an emotional connection with it; it incorporates some writing that's, while not taken from some of my earlier work not on this site, is certainly adapted from it, and that writing was pretty near and dear to my heart before I found more coherent ways to express it. So I've got the most connection to it there. Kiu is... well, I love it, but it's more of my face now, if you get that, and so I've had a bit of a hard time getting back into giving Kiu new lore. Palisade, on the other hand, is a bloody Clancy novel in SPACE with nine hundred and seventy years of future history to its name that offers, well, a significant opportunity for making something that doesn't involve building a new world from the ground up but still has plenty of room to make insane new societies in a way I find realistic and, well, it and M22 make a great sandbox I've got to play around in, if that makes sense. OA's got some promise in its retcon but I'm not far enough along with that to make a definitive statement on it yet. M22 is part of Palisade, for all practical purposes. And Kiu I've already explained.

That leaves Palisade. And let's just say you don't write over twenty thousand words of lore with a literal hundred thousand more planned unless you really, really love a setting.
