I like the Aztec/Mexica migration myth; it's the perfect mix of myth and history and is very hard to interpret as even experts disagree on what parts to take as memories of the past and what parts are entirely mythical. The descriptions of Aztlán in Tezozomoc's Crónica Mexicáyotl as a white place where ancestors recide next to a curved hill and caves gives out connotations to a cyclical point of origin in the Underworld where the dead reside. Other places like Tamoanchan and Tlapallan also hint at vaguely faraway or supernatural places or could be interpreted as being real places, like Coatlicamac. By the second part of the pilgrimage towards the Anáhuac's lakes (modern day Mexico City area) where México-Tenochtitlan was founded, the myth indicates real geographical knowledge, especially after the Mexica pass Tula, something well recognized in post-colonial chronicles and the Boturini Codex.
It's also fascinating to see the divergences of the same myth between different sources; for example, when it comes to the Colonial-era writers that'd pass it down. Those that follow Texcoco's traditions (or are the descendants of Texocan nobility) like Fernando de Alva Ixtlilxóchitl or Cristóbal del Castillo badmouth the Tenochas/Aztecs/Mexica (by emphasizing sacrifice and the theme of usurpation in the Mexicas' arrival to the Anáhuac region) for their Spanish readers, while descendants of the Mexica like Hernando Alvarado Tezozómoc downplay the whole sacrifice thing while emphasizing a providential view of the Conquest. It all adds another layer of complexity with subtle political intent when it came to land reparation.
