Wow I'm surprised this thread hasn't died yet and I'm very impressed!

It's been a while since I posted on F7, but one cliche is low effort posting in AL/AN threads. I'm sure this was talked about before in this thread, but it got tiring for me personally see low effort posts.

Of course if they're new players I completely understand why they make low effort post. They're just starting out and need time to grow.

Nothing wrong with deus ex machina if the story is interesting, yours definitely is a very captivating world.

And I also like Nazi occultism if it can be made into a good story. I like Indiana Jones and the Iron Phoenix, Bloodrayne, Hellboy and Hellsing specifically because of it.

I hope I don't seem self-centered here, but I always enjoy hearing that compliment.

I almost forgot that Hellboy was summoned by Nazi occultism.
I think I only watched the 2004 film once, but I remember thinking it was pretty good.

Wasn't full desertification the first time around. Went something like the following timeline: 2100s- really fucky-wucky climate collapse "averted" with climate engineering on a mass scale. Then in the 2400s the aftershocks fuck over the engineering and shit goes to full-on desertification hell, on the scale of "ice caps are gone and Indochina and central America are uninhabitable now, but at least we managed to make sure our artificial ecosystem survived, so... go team!", then in the 2900s overpopulation crosses even an incredibly inflated carrying capacity and the "human ecosystem" starts to collapse. Yeah, Earth got fucked hard in my work.

Quite the difference in how I handle writing. I'm actually not one for detail at all and tend to overlook number crunching, mainly because computation for the sake of realism makes me snooze.

Hahaha. In the Solar Remnant I zig-zag around reading about Operation Downfall to guesstimate Japanese and American casualties and make a deep social history about how this will affect Japanese Americans and put a dent on the future Civil Rights Movement...while writing about zany James Bond-like plots to accumulate gold in the Oceans to tank the Bretton Woods System and I follow the antics of a mad Alchemist who made catgirl slaves for the IJA (a possible origin story) but then turned them into pirates in the Bonin Islands after Japan fell.

I hope I don't seem self-centered here, but I always enjoy hearing that compliment.

Eh, I have no qualms conceding I envy people who can write with magic. I'm too materialistic and I can't stand making internally consistent rules.

A more specific sub-trope of this that I've noticed for a while is "what inspired your nation" in the "ask AU a question" thread. It's the most generic and thoughtless question there is and requires no engagement whatsoever with the content of the person you're asking it to, and probably makes up half the posts in that thread at this point. Funnily enough I don't think I've ever gotten that one myself, but I can't help but feel bad for KG, for instance, when they're asked the same question for the 15th time and keep linking back to the same post answering it over and over again.

Yeah, I try to make more high-effort questions there but it does become hard after a while, since I was never all that sure about how kosher questions about IC matters in that thread were and thus tried to shy away from them. I'd also say it's part of the broader problem of people not caring to really engage with others' works at all. I understand that some people don't really have time to read in-depth or really get to know other users to the point they can personalize their responses to a great degree but even I've noticed in the seven or so months I've been here that there's been a trend towards the downhill in terms of effort being put into replies- though thankfully I think with lots of older posters becoming more active it's gotten better recently.

In some fairness, it's hard not to wonder. Completely original nomadic people with its own religion and conlang? Magical socialist paradise? Esoteric post-apocalyptic America? I find myself constantly curious about where people got their inspiration!

It took asking a few times and getting asked a few times for me to realize, though, that the answer often boils down to a variant "not sure, I just really liked the idea?" So now I try to avoid asking that question, and if I do ask it, I pair it with a more creative question.

Here’s one thing I hate: People implementing the SCP foundation in their lore for the sake of power wank.

While not a power wank, here's one for the fun of it! Come on, I'm sure some of you have interacted with her.

Fun fact: Valentine Z also utilises one of the SCPs as a crossover thing, not that we have their weapons and all, but one of them is "The Architect". We used it sparingly to make more space when it gets cramped. ^^

Also, also, not pointing fingers at anyone, but I would love to see SCPs used in some other way. Come on, there are more things than just your commonly known Keters and Euclids. I personally love that Pizza Box, which does nothing but to give you free pizza based on you as a person. Yum!

Ahh! I don't think I've interacted with her as your character here on this forum, but I've read that SCP entry. I'd nearly forgotten it, but as soon as I saw the image it all came flooding back.
