We need higher academic standards for K-12 education in the USA so the next stages can either be university based or vocational based. Students must be able to link History & Sociology with Physics & Computer Science into one educated opinion instead of the usual rote memorisation that has already plagued Singapore and China with low innovation and stagnant growth of the middle class. Technical skills is great, social skills are great, but in the current changing environment we must mix the two. Business-savvy Programmers who understands paradigm shifts or Business-savvy Sociologists who understand where society is heading towards with current technological advancements are prerequisites for any nation to avoid the middle income trap, economic decay, or slow growth. There's a reason why we have fast job growths but almost no one taking them up: They need adequate training that we don't provide.
