Slavery is common here. Those who commit acts of heresy can be forced into slavery. If you’re a someone within the territory of luminumbra, tourist or citizen or otherwise, it is very important that you know the holy texts. Tourists don’t have to convert, but if they want to avoid getting into trouble they should still practice the commands set in the holy texts. Any mistep can result in them waking up at an auction block. The worst offenders receive capital punishment. Most asteroids in Luminumbra are mined by slaves. There is no forced breeding involved in Luminumbran slavery, but torture and mass sacrifice are an every day practice. New slaves arriving at their work station are petrified to hear the constant screams of other slaves that made even the tiniest mistake, but he eventually gets used to the screams, and it encourages him to work harder, lest that be his voice others hear. Every week, the slave who has had the least production for that past week will find themselves bound to a spell circle, ready to be sacrificed to the Gods. If production is particularly low within the whole unit, which comprises of around 100 slaves or so, several tens can be sacrificed at once. The state even rewards those who make sacrifices, as it “pleases the gods”, so there’s also an incentive structure. About 5%-10% of the population is enslaved at any given time, meaning anywhere from 1 out of every 20 to 1 out of every 10 people are enslaved.

As such Luminumbra is a Tier 9 Society

Yes. Typically on gas giant planets, we throw the offender off the platform and into the swirling clouds below.
On terrestrial worlds the worst offenders and those guilty of apostasy are given a marking for condemnation, have a dark ritual performed on them that immobilizes them, and are subsequently launched into space in a drifting pod...that will continue to drift for a long time to come.

Other methods include dragging the offender to a killing field and using outright dark power spells on them, killing them on the spot.


But all in all, because we are made up mostly of gas planets, our main method is "walk the plank" plus this video--replacing the spacecraft with the convicted offender.

This one word phrase used commonly by luminumbrans to remind their fellow neighbors to help others before themselves, as the holy texts say. This is what Luminumbrans are told anyways. What's not known however is that the phrase as used on the flag actually refers to the fact that all Luminumbrans are disposable, and that they owe their lives to the cause of the Gods. In other words, at any moment, the state could pull a Jim Jones on the entire population for the sake of appeasing these gods, which are false gods by the way.

I'm actually surprised I haven't been condemned yet.
