While one out of every 3 states in our world is a monarchy (42 countries), only four are Absolute monarchies: The Hashemite and the Saudi Kingdoms in the Middle East, Thailand in East Asia, and Albania in the Balkans. Bulgaria was also functionally an absolute monarchy until the Thaw of 1997 when, under threat of a violent socialist revolution (and fearing for an incursion by either Romania, Turkey, Greece, or Yugoslavia while in the process) the Bulgarian Tsar allowed the formation of a democratic and completely independent legislature (which had been under his own control and de facto an advisory council until then). Despite all thoughts to the contrary, the Tsardom of Russia has not been an absolute monarchy, not that its last string of Tsars and Tsarinas didn't wish otherwise.

Alpes a Septentrionali imperium wrote:It is quite amazing that space technology advanced so far so early in your universe. Is there a reason for this?
The Kingdom of Gallia(France) was not fully integrated into the Alpes a Septentrionali Imperium until around 1720. This was mostly because of the laziness of early medieval kings of the Alpes and the Viceroyalty of the Gauls and Franks(Capetian France). The Viceroyalty was created in 914 after the Franco-Alpini empire finally dissolved into the multiple kingdoms and viceroyalties that dotted Europe at the time. The Viceroy of the Gauls and Franks was initially an appointed position with Alpeian Kings giving the position to those in an eerily similar line to the IRL kings of France before giving the position to the Capets. They would go on to rule unattended by the Alpeian Kings, only paying tribute and giving aid when needed to prove their position. But this changed when the Angevin empire and Hundred Years War started to affect the Kingdom of Alpes. After these events, the king of Alpes started to try to assert his rule over the VIceroyalty, regularly making changes to the policy given by the Viceroy, and even intervening in treaties and putting an Alpeian on the. An example of this would be the intervention of King Jean(Iohannes) II of the Alpes in the Ordinance of Villers-Cotterêts, specifically articles 110 and 111. He was angered by the Ordinance basically discontinuing the use of Latin and decided to remedy this by invading the Viceroyalty with forces from Alpes and Occitania, Aquitaine, the Pyrenees, and the Vendée to assert the authority of the king of Alpes, as king of Gallia. This ultimately ended with the Ordinance being changed to include the status of Latin as the second language of law and all major legal changes needing the approval of the King of Alpes to become law.
The VIceroyalty was de jure dissolved in 1716, with the signing of the Treaty of Le Mans, and was de facto dissolved by 1720. But the influence of the viceroyalty can be seen throughout the Imperium today. French(Also known in the Alpeian universe as Frankic-Gallic) for example has become the dominant language in the imperium. (But unlike RL, the regional dialects and Latin are much more prevalent.) Along with this many Institutions in the Imperial Government where imported from Gallia, such as the use of parlements and provinces. The Kingdom of Gallia also has many of its own separate institutions in place. Today the current Imperial Family are descendants from a Gallo-Alpeian branch

However, I assume, that Godularans are probably well received by restaurant chiefs, especially if they are aware of their guilty pleasure - trying out new food tastes. *SCPS agent takes a cup of coffee*
''Centrism (Or moderates per se) is pretty much considered a ''dead position'' in SC, and extremism and zealotry in general has taken over many aspects of SC's life, not only politics. Even the democratic underground groups usually are uncompromising, as they consider military skirmishes as ''the only way to topple the SC's tyranny'', and don't believe, that the system can be reformed from inside. One of those examples is United Democratic Union (Also called as United Partisan Organization in SC's universe) - an underground resistance organization in United Megastates, which has declared itself as a successor to the Republican and Democrat parties, which got banned in 50s by SC's leadership (Hence the Republican/Democrat divide isn't as significant as in OTL). UDU is the sole partisan organization in United Megastates, due of most of others being crushed under SC's boot, and with UDU being the only one, which remained too radical to just bend over and die. UDU's leadership also absorbed various other, smaller democratic underground organizations either through mutual agreements, or infiltration, and violent purge of the leadership (One example being UDU infiltrating the SC's New England underground group "Minutemen" in 70s), as UDU's leadership saw them as "without perspective" - in fact, one of UDU's leaders said, that "Only a single, large organization could deal a significant damage to Tom's rule." (In fact, not only UDU's commanders, but most of its members as well are not allowed to use their real names in documents or conversation, in order to prevent danger for the group's members. So, even SCPS knows a few leaders of UDU only by their nicknames). Also, a lot of the moderate democrats were killed in battles with SC's army and police, meaning, that the UDU's core became even more radical, and battle-hardened. Some of them also had lost a lot of what was dear to them, especially their family, which meant, that some of them were left as husks filled with sadness and hatred for the SC's tyrants. That, in combination with UDU's zealotry, has led to UDU's partisans committing various nasty actions. While a lot of them are blown out of proportion, or just straight made-up by SNN's propaganda machine (In fact, SCPS retribution, and anti-partisan operations often see more cruelty shown by government's forces, often by going excessive with cruelty), UDU's fighters still aren't exactly merciful, when it comes to dealing with supporters for Tom's rule - there have been reported cases of UDU's fighters brutally killing the SC's soldiers and their families during night cover, or usage of shrapnel explosives in sabotage, along with armed assaults against commander escorts. UDU's leadership's relations with students are complicated - from one side, a lot of its younger supporters are loyal to the group, and UDU's recruitment happens mostly between younger people as well, but from other side, UDU views those students loyal to the party as "very dangerous", especially those, who would be the administrators, and soldiers of SC in future. So, UDU frequently sends in spies in universities as well, to take out the students deemed as ''most dangerous'' by UDU's leaders. Youth members of UDU are under the suspicion of UDU's veterans in particular - usually people in their 40s, or even with grey hair already. Also, while UDU has proclaimed democratic state as it's end goal, UDU's structure is still somewhat despotic, as UDU considers itself as more of a military organization, and thinks, that "In military organizations, democracy doesn't work as well". Also, quite a few of UDU's members think, that "temporary despotism is better for surviving in times as dire as living under SC's rule", because its leader thinks, that "If an organization is too democratic during times of emergency, it is easier for its enemies to infiltrate''. UDU has regional commanders for all 9 SC's megastates, which are supposed to lead the each branch's operations with the help from people like treasurer (which gathers income and buys various weaponry for regional partisans), propagandists, which are supposed to sow rebelliousness in the local populace, and try to keep the UDU's democratic dream alive, and ultimately - the grunts as well, as they make a large part of the fighting forces of UDU, and without them, UDU couldn't function either, because what are the upper echelons without soldiers? UDU's partisans in 90s, Pacifica. UDU's militants in Rockies.''
''Party's Liberal wing, on the other hand, is a break-off from the Reformist Wing, and in comparison to Reformist wing, it has way more pro-democratic stance. Similarly to UDU, Party's Liberal Wing has a combination of center-leftists, and center-rightists. However, unlike UDU, they believe, that The Party can be changed from inside. ''UDU has Thompson Guns as their weapons, but we have extreme patience'' is a fairly common slogan between the Party's Liberal Wing, and is often heard in its secret meetings. However, Party's Liberal wing members often keep their true beliefs in secret, and often disguise as nationalists, or just apolitical, in order to better blend in, as democratic beliefs still aren't tolerated in SC's government. Despite that, Party's Liberal Wing still remains a small group in SC's government - even Reformists view them with suspicion, and the SC's Old Guard members, along with supporters of the traditionalist wing of the Party, often say, that ''the biggest mistake of the Reformist wing was allowing opposition in any form, even if (relatively) controlled by state'', often citing ''lack of opposition force as one of the fascism's main tenets'', and arguing, that ''when opposition starts to appear, it is clear, that system isn't working''. Party's left wing also views them with suspicion, often calling them ''bourgeois sellouts''. Still, a lot of the Party's Liberal wing members are very radical about their beliefs, and have a detailed set of plans of what to do, in case they could successfully hijack The Party over decades, or even centuries - like reprogramming Tom, trials of various high-ranked SC's politicians and officials, etc. However, their leaders also often remind their members, that ''in case if everything breaks down, and goes down to hell, be ready to take out your guns, and fight for your cause''. There have even been secret emergency plans made, in case if Tom would think, that the wing has ''outlived its usefulness'' - members would be supposed to grab whatever firearms they have stocked, and run to wilderness (Like forests, mountains, or deserts), and join the UDU's partisans, to continue resistance in armed form. Unlike UDU, which had existed about since 60s, Party's Liberal Wing arose only after the Reformist Wing's reforms in 1980s. While UDU remained underground, the Reformist period made it easier for more covert democrats to get into the Party, from which's seats they previously were blocked from. (Still, even UDU were affected by the Reformist period, as they intensified their activities after it, and started to operate in new regions like Appalachia, Ozarks, and in the South.)''
''Overall, both UDU, and Party's liberal wing have decried moderates as "spineless". Of course, individuals with positions, which could be described as ''moderate'', exist in SC's world, but those people are usually few and far in-between, and basically marginalized in SC's political discourse, and are pushed to the corners of it, while ridiculed by both the SC's totalitarians, and democrat resistance. For a lot of UDU's (And Party's liberal wing) members, moderate ideas are often associated with ''middle ground'' fallacy, especially when considering the fact, that compromise is not really possible between Tom's totalitarians, and the resistance, as they both want each other dead. In fact, term ''Radical centrist'' was at first used pejoratively by SC's soldiers to refer to the UDU's fighters, but UDU eventually embraced the term. Also, as a lot of UDU's members are a mixed bunch, when it comes to political views, some of them still hold conservative views on things like religion, or LGBT+ community. Due of the different views, of how a country should be after democracy would be restored, sometimes there is infighting between center-leftists and center-rightists, for an example, although UDU's leaders usually try to prevent that, before it goes out of control, saying, that ''a single arrow can be broken easily, but a pack of arrows, which stands together, can't be broken''. However, UDU's presence outside of United Megastates is limited - it failed to expand its partisan network to the SC's Central America, partially due of not establishing strong enough contacts with local groups, and in other SC's regions, local democratic resistance groups don't align with UDU, as they usually have little need to. Only area outside Megastates, where UDU has a significant presence, is SC's Canada. After the destruction of most of Canadian royalist resistance, UDU filled the vacuum between partisan operations, and had somewhat mixed successes in expanding its network there. However, unlike in Megastates, there are still other partisan groups in SC's Canada, like Inuit Guerrillas, which don't recognize Greater North's authority, and continue to wage warfare against it. However, even there, UDU is still the largest organization in terms of numbers, as other groups are much smaller - main reason preventing UDU infiltrating and absorbing other SC's Canadian partisan groups is mostly lack of funds for such operations. The Party's liberal wing has also little presence outside the United Megastates, and while some factions in other SC's Commonwealths have voiced their support for the wing, it hasn't gained any seats in other Commonwealths, as it is primarily oriented around SC's ''core territories''. It also sees little reason to expand its bases in other regions, as most of SC's Commonwealths have strong equivalents of Party's Liberal Wing already, so the Liberal Wing rather tries to cooperate with those groups instead. In great secrecy, of course, as one wrong step could reveal the entire network for SCPS agents. So, yeah - liberals in SC's timeline are something entirely different.''

Due to its sheer size, the Grand Union is very much a federal state wherein provinces can have different laws or ways of life so long these do not directly contradict federal law. For example, abortion is accessible in most provinces but not in others, specifically the Francophone provinces like Quebec, Louisiana, Illinois and others. In these provinces, abortion is illegal. In the more liberal, explicitly Anglo provinces like Oregon or Massachusetts, abortion is available on demand for all Kyrian citizens.
