In our own historiography, the King and the Head of the United Dutch Reformed Church aren't the same person, though not being part of the church can affect a person dramatically in terms of privileges and rights.
The only reason New Nassau wasn't completely integrated into the British Empire was because the Janke States General approved of a full occupation of the colony the moment the Louisiana War extended its reach to Europe. New Netherland moved 15,000 troops and 87 artillery pieces into the original territory of New Nassau (which is in our timeline the State of Maryland), while leaving the territory ceded to New Nassau during the 2nd Anglo-Dutch war alone. New Nassau was administered as an independent state but under government of New Netherland for the next few decades, but was one of the first states to be created during the decolonization of the American Continent.
Hmm, that's quite a good strategy. I mean, I don't claim to know too much about military strategy, but that seems like a good move to get a territory that would help New Netherland later in the war. Also that's like 172 people per artillery piece, so.... you could technically have 172 people manning one artillery, though inefficient at that point.
Or if 6 people manning the artillery, the rest of the 166 people could surround each artillery like a human wall, letting the artillery do its job while a crapton of infantry protect them.
