There is a severe stigma attached to atheism in Prussia-Poland due to it's association with both Western intelligentsia and Soviet communism. As such, atheists are regarded as a potential 5th column and are shunned by society.
I believe that such a stigma is certainly not unfounded, but perhaps moderation should be taken when placing such sweeping statements on a significant portion of the population.
