"Fear is the only weapon our enemies possess. They keep you afraid so you will not object to them claiming more and more power over you. Refuse to be intimidated. Refuse to be cowed by blackmail, bribery, and threats of violence. There are more of us than there ever will be of these cowards, and it is an inherent aspect of their nature that they back down when confronted by a more powerful foe."

Natural Selection does not seem to produce homologies, that is to say, similarities in form unrelated to anatomical functions in animal lineages that do not share a basic common ancestor. Surprisingly, the likely common ancestor of mankind and the kitkin, a hominid, probably didn't resemble any cat-like creature in any form, so naturally no hominid would end up with physical adaptations that'd coincidentally look like some other unrelated family of animal life."
-Excerpt of New Scientific Review, vol.2 of the year 2668 (1898)

"To prevent poisoning, the morsels of raw meat I eat are frozen before. I also eat beef, told its the safest. Not pork or ground up meat that mixes up the microbes.

All those precautions diminish the chance of food poisoning, but none eliminate it. If I were you' I'd drop that part of your act."

"We were glad they came... They were a great help. Your adviser did a great job. Thanks to them We rebuilt the country institutions, the intelligence, the security, the armed forces and We could absorbe the influx of new material... But, We were even happier when they left. As, someway We felt they looked down on us, simply because they were seasoned veterans... Of a one much different war We were actually fighting. And, We had the sensation they smiled with content. Like We were simply "natives" and didn't listen our ideas and opinions when we decided to go the offensive. We knew the our country, the people, and some of us had experience in the underground fight so We knew how our enemies thought and the mistakes made by the Serrano Regime before trying to end with the resistance."

"One thing you need to learn before you take a crown is is that you can't always crush peasant revolts. Ever so often, you have to count your losses and throw an idiot noble who pissed off his commonfolk too much too quickly to the rabble that have come for his head. The peasants may be angry, pissed and impossible to reason with while in a revolt, but behind every peasant revolt, there's someone who can be reasoned with. Break his spirit, and you'll face another revolt half a decade later. Bring him to you side, and you'll have a secure march."

"People no longer need the major networks to stay informed about the world around them, because you no longer need mountains of cash and big backers helping you to get into the media business. These days, if you have a functional phone, you can get into media. One young man with a modern phone with higher ratings and better viewership than a classical network is a threat to such networks. This is why they are now so much in support of censorship, and locking out the so-called 'outlaw media' for daring to challenge their narratives."

"Kitkin and humans possess the same set of chromosomes, with obvious results. The presence of rare metals and deformed glass in the stratigraphic layer corresponding to about 3,000 years in the past heavily indicate that an asteroid impact blasted the once-mythical Golden Age into oblivion, if not the sentient inhabitants of Earth. Whether kitkin existed prior to this cataclysm remains to be verified. This is just a speculation, but, is it possible that the kitkin -derived from humans- passed down inheritance of acquired characteristics favorable to survival in a world after a catastrophic impact? "When I was but a little girl I wanted to be a history teacher. It was my dream to tell the next generation the stories of our past. To guide them to a well-informed and civic-minded future, that these children would go forth and do great things. But my elementary school was on the res, and I was too young. When my 6th year had come and gone and I was ready to learn about my people, I was in for a shock, because the secondary classes were off the res. They were under the Educational Department of Hammarstaden.

I was instead given a new history. One painted gold and blue but mostly white, against a canvas of heroic, noble wars against savages. In these tales, the heroes rode on gold reined horses, names like Westermarck, Nyquist, Tynniken, while the savages wielded bloody clubs and played the drums of war as they ravaged civilisation, before those gallant heroes quelled my ancestors with blade and ball. I learned quickly that my role in these stories, like the role of all the other halv-bred in the class, was to play that savage. When I left that place for the evening I would cry, and cry, and cry. My history, the one that mamma and pappa taught me, the one that brought stars in my eyes, were stolen from me. When I graduated, I never wanted to teach anyone else that.

But here we are now, and I've since promised, to myself and all my little crows at home, to teach them their history. It is my most solemn hope that one day, I will be able to retire from all this, and teach once more, in a classroom, with as many little ones as I can teach, and sing to them a true history, the one true history that we all face on this planet: The history of the struggle."

"Pulling the fuel rod from the core does not immediately cool down the reactor, actually. You need to wait a certain amount of time to make sure it has had an impact. If you put the rod back in too quickly, then removing it won't have done any good. Keep doing that, and eventually you have a meltdown."
